Well here's something surprising but not entirely unexpected...
"For hardcore gamers that scoff at Zynga's Offerings, it's CastleVille that might hold the most intrigue. Helmed by Bill Jackson, who worked on the iconic Age of Empiresfranchise while he was at Ensemble Studios (they also made Halo Wars), CastleVille will feature role-playing game staples like crafting, exploration and more. In a Venture Beat write-up about the new game, Jackson sounded confident that CastleVille will represent a new level of socially connected role-playing gameplay to the web: "Zynga is bringing massively multiplayer role-playing games to the mass market," Jackson said of the game. Of course, it remains to be seen just how much depth CastleVille will have when compared to other massive RPGs like World of Warcraft. But, it's significant that they're entering a space where Blizzard's generally been seen as unstoppable."

I'm amazed someone cited WoW in reference to depth. Sheer entertainment there. Next we'll be hearing about Farmville's indepth gameplay and it's steep learning curve.
Soon all games will be called mmorpg or at least mmo
Silly.
Never heard off them but from what I've read no thank you. A MMOG itself should be social enough (virtual world damnit!) so I don't need a connection with social network sites.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play."
"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
Don't mock it too soon. It sounds like a good gateway MMO for the youngins to get them hooked on the good stuff.

this is why we really need to redefine the term and what it relates to, mmorpg means so many things to so many people and it seems to all depend on your/their age and when you started playing these games.
Some one needs to start a movement to define it clearly for the current market.
totally agree... every "TRUE" MMORPG player has started some where and if it means that they all came from the stupid facebook games that's fine. just more nub for me to snub. haha.
seriously tho i started with MMOs through Knight Online and Conquer Online... my finger and eyes still bleed from those grinds. Most younger people or thoughs not away of MMORPGs and don't care for WoW could easily come from one of these style of games to a full fledge MMORPG. Thats not a bad thing is some cases it could be ur new fantastic guild mate or a sweet rogue...
I think that the term isn't really bad. We more or less know what is an MMO and what isn't. With a little disconnect when it comes to heavily instanced games. However, it is developers that are throwing out the word when it is not justified, trying to get interest.

Worst thing is that it might be really popular, because even if people laugh at Zynga, they are still big.... with the facebook game.
I don't see them going into serious MMO, even the Free to play one.
The shop for their facebook game are already horrible I can't imagine how a F2P MMORPG RPG would be.
