I really love for Arenanet to have a theme song in the game like Final Fantasy XIII-2 did.

Aside from the awesome musical scoring courtesy of Jeremy Soule, why not include an afficial theme song too? Anyone agrees with me on this? If so, who do you think they should have it sing?

Ugh, please no. Nothing with lyrics.
This will do nicely as a theme song:
I really hope it gets remixed and arranged throughout the soundtrack. It's very good.
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss
But why not? As long as the song can give justice to GW2 I'm up for it
The only time I've heard a vocal theme sound any good in a video game was Age of Conan's "Ere the World Crumbles", and it is amazing.
I can't stand the voiced songs that have been put in Final Fantasy games, it has a Japanese influence (I know the game does too, but I don't mind that as much), and only makes me think of anime.
-Computer specs no one cares about: check.
-MMOs played no one cares about: check.
-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.
-Signature no one cares about: check.

-Narcissism: check.
I'm not a fan of the final fantasy music either. A lot of people like it though so *shrug*
Also, AoC's music is great, especially that one that you linked.
OP that video was terrible.
Also, I dont really think a song with lyrics could do the game justice. They would have to try extreemly hard to do it and even then they run a high chance of botching it.
Just something to consider...
How many movies have theme songs with lyrics? How many of those movies aren't comedies?
Honestly, can you think of any lyrics that would do justice to movies such as Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, or Pirates of the Caribbean? (Yes, my examples are intentionally fantasy-oriented.)
"Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." -Dr. Seuss
Arrrgghhh... nooo my ears hurt.
Seriously OP? You think... you actually think.. that.. that.. noise.. is good?
(shakes head slowly)
Urghh.. im gonna have to listen to the Norn theme a few times to wash my ears out.
Into the West (Annie Lennox) and May it Be (Enya) are "theme songs" from the LOTR movies.
Guild Wars has some of the best soundtracks in the entire entertainment industry. I wouldn't touch it in any other way then letting Jeremy refine it. Chronicles of Spellborn tried to have a "hip band" promote their game, while having Jesper Kyd (whom is great) produce the awesome in-game music. I didn't see anyone care about that band. I like it when games and movies stick to the true geniuses in music writing instead of trying to be "hip" with some sub-par band.

They are "fillers" to fill a certian part of the movie to create a particular atmosphere. Not theme songs.
Edit: I can't seem to find an actual theme song for LOTR, maybe it just has a set of sub-theme songs/
It was actually rather popular in the 80s and early 90s but movie music with lyrics are old news. Heard Easy rider, Hearts of fire or Knocking on heavens door?
Soundtrack albums used to be big business, I guess you people are a bit too young to remember.
As for Pirates of the caribeans, I order you to listen to Running wild, Alestorm and Flogging molly.
I was going to say that movies are different from games, but then I remembered the DA:O Theme song which was pretty amazing, imo.

This, however, doesn't mean that theme songs suit every game. And I feel that GW2 doesn't really need one. A track created by Jeremy Soule is more than enough for me.
And yes, that FF theme song is terrible. The song itself is not bad, but it doesn't fit the game at all, imo.
Agreed, best themesong with lyrics for a MMO is actually the old Diablo clone Darkstones.

No thanks. SquareEnix' attempts at crossmarketing with their theme song tie-ins may have worked with their particular fanbase, but I have pretty strong doubts it'd work for GW2.
^ What she said.
Those aren't "theme songs". Or, at least, those aren't the songs that people think of when they think of LotR.
Harry Potter and PotC are perfect examples: they have theme songs that are repeated, with some twists and variations, throughout the movies. They're recognizeable, they set the mood, and they don't require lyrics. GW's theme song for me is the music at the loading screen right now, it sums up the music from the rest of the game nicely. The music in the gamescom trailer (I think) is pretty similar, and I think that's what they're going to use as the "theme" of GW2.
That was pretty awful. So I say no thanks.
My theme song.
I've always been a fan of FF music, however. FFXIII has the worst soundtrack of them all. Including that awful song in the OP's post. Besides, Jeremy Soule has his own style of music and I can't wait to see what he does with GW2 as his inspiration. For those who don't know, the guy is a prodigy. He was composing at like age 6 and graduated from college at a young age. Basically a Doogie Howser of classical music.
Not for me. Someone singing it would annoy me if I didn't like the voice. Stick to the orchestras. suits GW2 more in my opinion.
If the vocals were like this, short and almost not understandable like a choir it might be ok.
hehehe,hahahahaHAHAHAHA
laughing Hyena, get used to it -_-
and for theme songs with Lyrics. Gladiator's soundtrack had some tracks that were pretty good. Hans Zimmer magic.
I would love to hear something like that while I'm Bossing Zhaitan

They're as much "theme songs" as most of the Final Fantasy lyrical songs that we've thus far called "theme songs." Songs like FFX's "Suteki de Ne" and FFXIII's "My Hands," performed by Leona Lewis, are directly comparable the lyrical songs in LotR in their use. All 4 were played only once, usually at the end of the game/movie, and none of their melodies were woven into the other music.
Now you could argue that FF8's "Eyes on Me" and FF9's "Melodies of Life" are a bit different. Their melodies were woven into several other pieces throughout their respective games. Would you call these songs with lyrics theme songs, but the other songs with lyrics standalones? Either way, we're now making a distinction that perhaps the original person wasn't making, hence the miscommunication going on in this thread.
The lyrical song featured in the linked FF13-2 video will likely have the exact same role as "My Hands" from it's predecessor, as well as the songs from the Lord of the Rings. Call them themes or don't.
Yeah that song really caught my ear too when I first saw the trailer. A song doesn't usually catch my attention in something like a game until either A) I have an emotional in-game experience with which to associate the music, or I've simply heard it a dozen times already and it's beginning to catch on.
Fortunately, it sounds easy enough to learn on the piano too
the one thing age of conan did right.
this thread just reminded me the epicness i felt when i heard this.
