Endless patches

I am back trying out Rift again and remember now one of the things that really annoyed me about the game.  Patches, patches, patches!  Enough already!  While I am typing this I am waiting for a painfully slow download of the latest patch.  Look a patch or two a week is okay, but one everyday is crazy.

He he I remember there was a new patch almost every time I would log in.

Most patches i've seen were at about 80mb and came with fullspeed down the line, which is 4mb/s for me. So the whole download+patch process was only 2-3 minutes and i don't find that too much of an annoyance. I also like the speed at which Trion gets on things.

What really annoyed to me was that a multibillion-dollar company like Blizzard needed 6-8 month to get a minor patch done and in the end it didn't even fixed what was broken for your class from a previous patch. Lots of class defining stuff remained broken for ages after several patches, like i.e. the eternal rollercoaster ride that rogue stealth was. You don't see this with Trion.

What concerns me though is that after every major patch the new imlpemented stuff always needs so damn much fixing all the time and allover the place.

Its both a good thing and a bad one. Most of the time, little issues are just left to dry for some 'big' patch, acting in a way as a 'promotion' by having it stick out. Blizzard is so guilty of painting a patch in this manor that adds little to nothing, and instead just fixing little things up here and there. Its nice rift is patching a lot, though as it was pointed out, it does make it more prevelent of the little problems it has. Don't take it wrong though, a big game like Wow has its own large assortment of glitches, while not as many as rift likely has (I mean come on, wow IS very old), its still a good number, they just dont' tend to get patched up as rapidly unless its some major issue such as an exploit or something greatly hindering a player from doing something important.

This thread isn't about the bug in 1.5 that resets the download manager completely (at around 7/9GB downloaded)?

Oh my god!  This game tries to fix bugs and add content way too much!  I can't stand companies that actually attempt to improve their product!  Why can't they just release a single player game and ignore any and all bugs like consoles do?  I'd rather the developers not care about me or their product!

If you have horrible internet connection, i can understand you. But for me, 5 minutes of patching surely isn't doing any wrong. I think patching is the last thing to whine about in the mmorpg.

I concur!  Please don't complain about developers working, we like that :D  You should be complaining to your ISP about your download speed :)

I remember seeing a lot of patches when I played.. Personally, more patches u have the better.. It shows the company actually is trying to improve and fix the game..

What killed Rift for me was how incredibly easy it was... The game reminded me a bit of the old EQ with the awesome dungeons,, unfortuntately, it was just to easy to level and get things done.. There was barely any real challenge.. If Trion made the game more challenging to the point where you feel that sense of accomplishment after achieving one of your goals within the game, I'd still be playing... However, since the only goal was to reach 50, and the only obstacle in your path was time, I knew I'd be quitting shortly after hitting level 50..  :/

Yeah, it is much better when they just leave broken stuff broken...

And if your downloads from Trion are "painfully" slow it's time for you to go ISP shopping because your internet connection sucks.

Soooo a game being supported and having new events, and free content added all the time is a bad thing?
