The Aion Online North American forum has a new post detailing player housing that is expected to launch with patch v3.0. Included in the post are a few details about housing and a ton of great screenshots to show off the look.
General Information:
Housing is available for characters level 21+
A "basic" house is acquired through questing, but you can upgrade through other means later.
Housing features include mailbox, furniture, interior decor (picture frames, mirrors, plants, etc), wardrobes (OMG), community interaction stuff, and a .. toilet o_o Yeah.
There will be plots of land for auction in certain areas (limited).
There are housing maintenance costs.
There will be new crafting skills to make furniture.
Check out all of the screens on the Aion forum.
Thanks, Piasek!

awesome! this might actually get me back into aion

Such Victorian looking housing for a decidedly non-Victorian type game! I like 'em though!
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rumours that you can build the house, but have to buy the front door from the cash shop are unfounded.....
I'd give them another try if they made free weekends for old users or had old comeback tickets for 10 days like wow does. Bought the game some years ago and didn't like it back then but am not willing to give it a try with GW2 and SWTOR coming unless they fight for me as a customer

Only in a quiet mind is adequate perception of the world."

They had a reactivation week back at the end of Sept for the 2 year anniversary in which all existing (and not banned) accounts were reactivated. It is possible they will do something similar perhaps a month after a big update like 3.0.
All die, so die well.
You just have a random chance to fail at placing the front door without destroying all other doors and windows... unless you purchase a non-failing front door from the cash shop?
For a game that lets his players dress up as teletubbies wielding giant carrots for weapons, all the while trying to provide a rather mature background story, I would say this is an improvement. ;-p
Because flying a Minmatar ship is like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an Uzi.
If it patches soon, I might be interested to go back til December... Right now... I have no mmo.
No bitchers.
True, but much of the interior art of Aion is very victorian... the furniture and wallpaper, etc..
well, after peeking at the other screenshots of the housing, I will have to take a pass. I love housing in mmorpgs, but this stuff just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. Good to see the game evolving though, for those who enjoy it.
Ehhh.... is this some kind of a bad joke? How the heck does that art style fit in the whole AION setting?
Looking at the housing it looks pretty damn sweet, hope they do another reactivation week when this hits and I will definitely try it.
I'm partial to Tudor homes or Ranch style. That's it, can't play Aion now. No Ranch, Not Tudor, NO CHANCE!
Believe it or not, this patch will transform aion into a diferent game, it will be as i expect the 2012 mmo blockbuster. But sure we have too wait. Maybe June?! What is your guess? :P
Btw, dont know why that atonishment with the style, most of the great rooms in Pandemonium are victorian style, or something like that - im not an expert ^-^ but i still like the game, even when they sell on shop a 100% chance to socket manastones (omg i wont forget it).
I know it is all about personal preferences, but if someone could explain to someone who don't get it (me) the excitement about having a house in a game?
The way I see it, it's just a "square space allocated in a game" I can personalize, not different from a "hat" I can personalize on my character. Especially if there is no gameplay involving houses... (yeah, for me gameplay is more important)
And this is a genuine question, I just don't "feel" the excitement personally - not trying to be rude, or disdainful (I apologize in advance).
Housing adds replayability after raiding for gear, and then replacing it with more gear you got from the newest raid, and then raiding for more to replace the replacements with gets dull. For some, it gets dull before ever stepping foot in a raid, so the option to improve your character and still have progression elsewhere (such as player housing) is a very very good thing.
Some people (i know this might sound strange) actually play MMORPGs because they want to emerse themselves into an imaginary fantasy/sci-fi world. For these people, combat isn't the only thing they want to do in this world. For these people, customizing their characters, and what their characters own/build is what they play for. For these people, the entire point of logging on to an MMORPG is not to simply be on top of some chart or DPS meter.
i just dont get it..why is player houseing soo important to some people..
when i see comments like "wow i may just re-sub when this comes into play" or "man i rly hope they have player houseing next patch or expan or im going to rage " im not just talking about aion ..its alot of mmo's out there..imo there is no reason for it at all and its just more down the lines of the "single player mode" of mmorpg's
First of all, any ADDITIONAL content is a good thing when it comes to MMORPGS. The more choices a player has to make sure they enjoy their gameplay experience, the better. As long as each addition doesn't somehow ruin the enjoyment of past features that other players already enjoy.
Second, player housing has never in the past promoted "single player solo mode" -- Consider that anything placed inside player housing is usually if not ALWAYS something aquired from social activities, or otherwise attained from someone who crafted the item(s). I strongly suggest you... actually, nevermind. I cannot with a clear conscience suggest that anyone from the new breed of "gimme action now i wanna pwn some noobs" mmo gamers set foot in the few but still 'pure' mmorpgs, infecting them with such a lack of vision, imagination, and will to be communal and friendly.
EDIT: No offense to you personally, odinsrath. You may be someone who's very friendly and interested in the community aspect of MMORPGs, but... by default, anyone who would say in a forum "i just don't get it. why is player housing soo important to some people" flags themself as someone who's never played a real mmorpg, but instead, started with and likes the MOBA style of games.
(log on, queue up, hack'n'slash, pewpew, call someone a noob, check out your ratings, log off)
Sweet, always happy to see housing make it into any mmorpg.
Considering I recently started playing Aion again, this is a very welcome addition.
Looking forward to it
Different people like different things, pretty novel concept.
There is nothing to elaborate on, no hidden reason or agenda, it really is that simple. Different strokes for different folks.
Housing is fun. Why? I don't know. I'd rather have something else to do at max level other than questing or raiding......
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
some like pve, some pvp, some pure crafting etc ....
it's always good that a game adds more variety to it and thereby also boasting it's population and makes the game better.
im playing aion now and love it, alot of quest sitting around and the community is very helpful, though sometimes you still news to ignore the lfg chat -.-ll.
think this patch will comes out around Jun of next year, can't wait
RIP Orc Choppa
this is the best game and played *.*
I normally LOVE player housing, but after looking at the screen shots of the interior it seems so big. Like, I dont know if that character is small or if the room is just abnormally large. I like houses that feel realistic. EQ2 and VG have good house interiors (EQ2 more than VG though). But if its implemented correctly then I'm very excited for it.
