With wow battlegrounds coming out, daoc's reasons for staying on top become increasingly limited.

Type Seed Game into your search engine. Go to the game's website and learn about it. It may be the best game you've continued to ignore.

Second, for years now DAOC has a PvP server.  There are no realms.  You are free to make any character you want.  The guilds and alliances fight each other.  So if you want total PvP then DAOC has it.  It is not just in the Frontier either, in most areas of the game excpet the capital cities and a couple other places you are free to kill each other if that is what you want.  My point is that it is not just reserved low level areas that no one is in.  Besides if you get to level 20 which can be done very quickly you will have all the RvR action you want from then on most of the time.

But right now there is no comparassion in terms of RvR (or PvP) between DAOC and WoW.  DAOC is so much better now, but it has been out for years.

I doubt the grind has changed that much. And the PVP server was totally dead when I played.

So no I'm not going back to a game where I have to grind for 6 months just to be able to do PVP.

I played DAoC on a free trial, luckily I never had to pay for the thing, even downloaded the game free, ehe.  Anyways, in other words it sucked.  Nuff said.

WoW on the other hand, I actually bought the game and have been playing it for 2 months now and love it.  There isn't a constint grindage of leveling, you can do the grind if ya want or do quests for exp/items/silver(&/or)gold.  Ya can solo or group, or duo.  The tradeskills are fun to do, except fishing which can be quite annoying.  And if you don't like pure pvp then you can play on a pve server.  Also there is an RP perferred server which is pve.  The customer service is pretty reliable give or take, not many mmorpgs have good customer service so..  whatever.

I'm willing to admit that world of warcraft is better. But that daoc sucks? No way.

Daoc has interactive combat and an intense pvp system (and better than wow until battlegrounds comes out) that is rivaled by none.

The reason why some trial players hate it so much is because they have never truly played daoc out to find out the true nature of the game, which is intense pvp and an excellent community.

Fact is, people who play daoc are so advanced into the game that a lowbie would have no groupies, and the quest system is lacking.

But does daoc suck? No, not at all, it's a great game that wow will take alot from and manipulate.

I would say go for DAoC, more content and better communtiy.  In WoW, if you can even get pass the patcher, the community is filled with Battlenet kiddies and so I have to say any more then that.

Also there is NO point to PvP in WoW atm.  So people that say that WoW is superior in PvP are just fanatical fanbois who would believe anything blizzard tells them.

WoW to me is the Kool-aid of the 2000s.

I played WoW for 2.5 months, had a lvl 45 Druid, lvl 25 Shaman, lvl 15 Warlock. The game is a lot of fun in the early to mid game. In that part of the game there are different quests for different races and factions and a lot of variety. When you get to be high-mid level the quests all start becoming the same regardless of race and faction (you're all going to end up doing many of the same quests in Stranglethorn Vale at some point) and so the replayability goes down at that level. And once you reach the higher levels it gets quite boring, I found ... the quests are fewer, they are mostly elite quests, you spend a lot of time travelling around and so forth. And the folks who have reached high 50s and the cap of 60 say that there isn't much to do there (and in WoW you can get to 60 playing casually in 2-3 months). So WoW is initially a lot of fun, but doesn't have much staying power for a MMORPG, in my opinion.

I've been playing EQ2 for the past few weeks and enjoying it a lot. My opinion of it may change as time goes on, but so far it's been an enjoyable, deep experience as compared with WoW. It''s a harder, more sophisticated game ... it's designed for folks who are MMORPG players, and not as an introduction to the MMORPG genre for non-MMORPG players (which is what WoW is in many ways ... Blizzard designed it that way to appeal to the Warcraft fans who are not MMORPG players, so they wanted it to be very accessible, and designed it that way .... makes it less interesting after the initial fun factor wears off for those who are interested in a deeper game with more staying power.

The PvP in WoW currently is fun for a bit, but isn't something that will keep you interested in the game for a long time. Currently the PvP on the "Normal" servers is consensual and generallt revolves around organized raids on towns and outposts -- these are attacks, you cannot take control of the towns for an extended period, the guards respawn quickly and you will be evicted eventually. You need a lot of players to do this and they need to be high level because the guards for most towns are high in level and respawn quickly. Still it is fun the first few times you do it ... after that it is less fun, it is more repetitive and not as interesting. Also, the game lags horribly when you have a full raid party or more (which you need if you want to attack one of the larger places). On the "PvP" servers, as one would expect, much of the PvP is ganking, and so the game is really different there. But as much as the PKers enjoy ganking, there aren't enough rewards in it to keep it interesting for an extended period ... they cannot loot the corpse, they do not get experience or skill increases for PvP, there is no ranking or honor or other advancement opportunity system based on their PvP kills, so in reality it is fun for those who enjoy PKing, but it is otherwise pointless from the perspective of game mechanics. Blizzard is introducing Battlegrounds to give PvP more of a point in that there will be forts and towns to capture and hold, but as has been pointed out these are going to be instanced and therefore will not be a part of the persistent world on a given server ... therefore the aspect of conquest that is visible for the rest of the server is missing.

I think that WoW had a huge splash right off the bat when it launched because in the early game it is very entertaining and engaging. The game lacks a lot of depth, and that is an issue when you are talking about an MMORPG where many people like to have a game they can commit to for an extended period, rather than a 1-3 month experience. I think that's where WoW has its great weakness ... it's easy to level cap in 2-3 months and there isn't much to do once you've done it. Alternate characters are fine, but after a while you're still repeating the same content and that is plain boring. PvP (see above) is fin at first but also gets boring relatively quickly. All of this adds up to a game that is a lot of fun at first and then tails off in the late game.

So my advice to you would be that WoW is a fun game that will entertain you for a month or two and then it will probably tail off for you. If you're looking for a more involved game, check out other ones like DAoC or EQ2. Probably not as fun in the early game as WoW, but more staying power.

Ummm... You haven't played since before TOA right?  All the lower level BGs on all the servers are packed because of TOA.  A good segment of the population liked the cleaner fight without the TOA mls and artifacts.
