I think this expansion is about the alliance vs horde trying to fight for resources. Prolly there will be a neutral hub like Shattrath city. As Blizzard said, the pandaren is the first neutral race. I don't mind the changes since I don't play WOW for a long time, but from what I have been reading in the forums, it looks like some players don't like the appearance of the pandaren. This is going to be the first overweight race in WoW. They had the anorexic blood elves, so here you have the other side of the coin.

I can tell many of you have totally misread what I wrote so here I am to repeat again:

I never said that Pandarens are not part of Warcraft lore, but they have never been part of WoW lore. Much like the Draenai when they were first introduced into BC and then their presence was known, but except that this whole expansion is focusing on one race. Yes, one race. Why the focus on a race that has never been part of WoW? There's the difference.

Once again, yes WoW has satire humour, quests involving bits of humour, NPCs etc and in a way it has its place and I personally enjoyed the Uldum area BUT the whole THEME of Wow has never been what Blizzard is now making WoW turn into by introducing a race that looks too comical, and that the whole central point of WoW has shifted. Shifted away from one big baddie to a race that is to me an insult for what WoW used to stand for: OUR battles, our struggles, our win against the evil in Azeroth. NOW, they are presenting WoW to be like what Chris Metzen said; a calm before the storm. Why?

Well, this is a matter of opinion isn't it? I think that gnomes are far more ridiculous looking then the pandarean, which I think look cool as hell. And we didnt misread anything. The Pandareans have been mentioned in wow as pointed out (Chen). Are all of these battles and struggles you speak of going to be that much more ruined when playing a panda over say a large cow? Or an Alien? I think you need to give this a chance before ou shit on it. Besides, you don't need to make a Panda.

Northrend wasn't part of the WoW lore until Wrath of the Lich King. They had bits and pieces pointing to it, but so did Pandarens.

I'd like for you to name something else they could have done that would be better suited to the WoW lore. Can you think of anything in the lore (aka, it is a large part of WoW already) that can make for enough content to fill an enter expansion? No? Then stop your whining. :P

Pandarens are a part of Warcraft lore, and they make for a great expansion. The comic relief will be there just as it has been in every other part of WoW.

    Sarcasm is not a crime!

I was pretty sceptical towards adding Pandaren into the world. But after seeing what they have done and hearing about it on the blizzcon wow panels it sounds amazing to me. I always thought of Pandaren as kind of a joke race that was never mean't to be in the game. But Metzen made it very clear that was never the case. The plan was actually to give Pandarens to the alliance during the burning crusade. But eventually they ended up with Draenei instead.

*sigh* and obviously you do not understand that WoW lore IS Warcraft lore.  Yes, love it or hate it, WoW is a continuation of what the developers of warcraft 1-3 built.  Yeah WoW is is taking a different directions with MoP but players were asking for the Panderan race since tbc announced belfs and draenei.  So please, stop talking about things you do not know. kthnx bye

It was. Until they noticed , and they were quite surprised/shocked, players actually wanted the joke to be a serious part of the WC universe. The initial plan was to make a joke and they made the joke, it just didn't end up causing the reaction they expected.

Generals speaks the truth.  My previous post stated the same thing.   The developers of WoW actually take into account what the players request and they implement those changes.

WoW has never been about comical relief.  Sure there are gnomes, references to Paris Hilton, motorbikes etc but gnomes were here from the start and I'm sorry to say the Pandaren race does look more like a comical relief than something even slightly fightable. I certainly wouldn't want to fight any, more like share a cup of tea with. They are cute bottom line. Blizzard say they are swaying away from the dark and gloomy environment, but this is going abit over the top. What, so all our struggles against Rag, illidan, Lich King, Deathwing and now we get to chill out with a bunch a fat smiling pandas while they are supposed to teach us the fate of ourselves and Azeroth? What kind of future is that? No thank-you, we survived some serious business before, we don't need to turn our fights and struggles in the past into something comical.

Honestly, what did you ppl think, you already got anime style with the blood elves, there already has been a Scandinavian update called WOTLK, now you're going Asian style and obviously they go with pandas.

(and since my latest trial and seeing some of the notorious kidlike behaviour of some WOW 12y olds, I wouldnt be surprised that a lot of those 12y olds are currently tripping in a big way and think it's the best idea brought forward by Blizzard EVER ^^)

Do some of you people even understand what 'comic relief' means?  You're sure all fired up to prove that WoW is based on it, just to defend these dumbass pandas.  Comic relief is called that because it acts as a RELIEF from the rest of the game that isn't comic.  It's a way to let people relax and laugh a little before getting back into the meat of the game.  That's it purpose -- RELIEF.  Comedy was never the central theme, just as small part of a formula that WoW executed well.

To me, WoW seems to be following a pattern common to many movie franchises.  The first one comes out. It's great, it's tight and people go wild for it.  But then there comes the inevitable slew of sequels, which only great initial success can spawn, that steadily degrade the quality of the franchise until the last one ends up only being fit for a direct-to-DVD release.

I don't know if pandaland will be that final, anemic sequel that doesn't even have the legs to reach the theaters, but it looks pretty damned close to it.  One thing is certain to me though, and that's that Blizzard no longer has the creative will to sustain its flagship game.  Perhaps it has something to do with a newer model currently being welded together in drydock.

You know... Most fo those "12 year olds" are actually in the 18-25 bracket if not higher. Just so you know... you know.. 'cause it would be silly if you did not know.. you know.

Well.. I always thought WoW was a joke... so.

I am actually not surprised about the Pandas...

Actually. If I ever played WoW again I'd be a Panda-Monk for sure.

But since I played it 5+ years ago, it was probably better then than it is now by the "always declining" comment.

Exactly. It's like comparing a traditional action movie with a couple of jokes here and there with Austin powers, one is a serious movie with comic relief while the other one is a comedy, plain and simple. I don't want my MMORPG to be a comedy like what these panda's are turning it into , i do however not mind it being semi-serious with comic relief.

the new race looks more serious than Goblin starting zone that WOW Cata brought to fans

you can debate all you want how gobins were around since RTS game and WOW Classic

but Blizzards use of goblins as a starting player race was basically one big joke

I never rolled a goblin and thus totally ignored that. Goblins themselves were somewhat silly but they didn't look that ridiculous. You see i could avoid the goblin starting zone, tell me how i will be able to avoid every single walking panda out there?

Big difference between a joke of a starting zone one can avoid and a joke of a race playable on both sides which one will never be able to avoid.

    BG's, raids, cities , questing hubs, they'll be every-frigging-where.

Reading some counter-arguments is telling me WoW is ready for a spongebob squarepants race. Afterall , ridicule was there before and you can never go too far?

    valid point

in EQ / EQ2 races were all over the place w different beast men

but Panda's go beyond beastmen concept because of the asian inspired wardrobe

in BC you had Blizzard throwing Draenei at players -- a race from outer space

but they were less silly looking

This, and Sayuri text bold does not give your opinion more weight. The simple fact is warcraft's history and lore is WoW's history and lore, just because Blizzard did not add a race playable or otherwise to WoW does not mean they never existed in the "world" of warcraft. As stated above and has I mentioned Chen a Pandaren is referenced in WoW and even had a quest. You may not like it and decide yourself that they never existed but in canon they did.

Think of it this way, it's kinda like if someone made a Star Wars game and didn't include "every" possible race that existed in the lore on release or even initial expansions. It does "not" mean they don't exist in that game it's just that the developers have not gone around to it, it really is that simple. They exist in lore and therefor exist in the game world even if it is just as text outside of the physical game. There is nothing "comical" going on here, the story is just doing what all stories do evolve (or die).
