Can you imagine paying 500 bucks for a lifetime sub and then your account gets perma banned later on down the road for a reason you feel is an unjust reason? The rage would be rampant.
No. Because it's lest fluid than subscription model. Sure i wasted more than 500$ over the time on subscription fees most likely, but at the end of each month i had the option to either continue or to stop and that's way mor eimportant for me than end cost, after 3-4 years of gameplay.
Even if that MMO was to be the second comming and i enjoyed the trail it still doesn't mean i will enjoy it 6 months down the line.
I will never, ever pay for a lifetime subscription to anything. If a game wants my ongoing support, they'd better be prepared to continue earning it. I won't just assume that the game won't go downhill after release, especially when the developers have no incentive to improve upon it, since they've already got my cash in their bank.
I would gladly pay $25 a month for a 30+ and older (verified) shard of just about any MMO. This last generation is mostly trashy foul mouthed Jesery Shore wanna-be excrement.
Well this would be hard to do since that 12 year old with mommy's credit card will verify as a 36 year old woman. You still have a 12 year old twink with an account and a direct line to a couple gold sellers. Of course you will always have the griefer that just enjoys ruining the game for others that will verify out as well. You can't out law a$$holes.
NO WAY in HELL would I pay $500.00 for a game
The month to month keeps the dev honest and working on the game.
A fight where I might win or loose? That's PvP. Ganked or being ganked is not PvP.
I don't see why $500 is such a big amount. If I added up everything that I have spent on MMOs it would be around $600 for all subscriptions because I have been playing since the early 2000s. So yeah I would pay $500 for the best MMORPG ever ... but not upfront.
Some upfront plus monthly subs is fine but it would be too risky as a one time payment. I mean, what if the game got bad after two months of playing? What if my character got hacked and I couldn't recover it?
No game is worth 10 games and no game lasts more than ten good games. All games get old eventually.
If the SSI Gold Box games had been coded correctly, instead of being tied into clock cycles... I would still play Pool of Radiance. The original SSI GB PoR that is... not that Ruins of a Game...er...Myth Drannor.
I was playing that game early this year using dosbox.

If I were making $250 / hour I would buy an own game programmer to program the perfect game for me.
In fact lets compute it: $250 per hour would be $2000 per day, $40,000 per month, $480,000 per year. I daresay after doing this for 10 years you can create your own little game company, easily.
So what's your perfect game?

He quit WoW for 6 times ... obviously, to quit, you have to restart.
He also assumes that every MMORPG has to have an "endgame". Obviously, he has no issue with the boring raid grind of WoW.

My stance exactly I will never ever give a company a huge amount of money upfront, not gonna happen. So much things than break a MMORPG for me, "new direction, dumbed down/nerf patches going p2w or partnering with crappy publishers".
Even if its my absolute dream game no way I'm paying for a lifetime sub or anything like that. Heck I won't even do 3 or 2 month subs.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!

No,never ever, no way Jose .It is never going to happen.
No, I would never pay that much. Unless is a pornographic, virtual reality game, then no game is worth $500.
Perhaps I would consider it if I was staggeringly rich, but in my current financial state, no.

Are stock options included with that fee? If not.... not a chance. It's like paying someone for work they might do.
No thanks.
In 12 years of gaming I've never come across an MMO that would EVER be worth a large fee. I don't think I ever will.
