I am going to make a carpenter but I want him to be either a Monk or Bruiser....is there any real difference between the two? I don't like the silly outfits the monks wear but aside from that, I don't know what the real difference is.
Can anyone help?

Can't answer you but I am going to highjack your topic since it seems so silly to make a new one for a question that's mostly the same.
Decided to try EQ2X just now but I can't really find any up-to-date information on the difference between Brigands and Swashbucklers.
With some luck those of you who know the difference between Monks and Bruisers also know the difference between Swashies and Brigs? I'm sure there's an EQ2 vet somewhere to help me (and the OP) out.
We are the bunny.

swashies have better aoe but lower overall dps then brigand and tome are a bit weaker in defence too.
monks hold aggro better and can heal others(losy heal but hey) and to me are more group friendly as regards buffs and survival.bruisers however do tad better dps and their self heal is better.
been a while since i played any of those 4 so this is what i remember.
The monk can heal (mend) other targeted person, the bruiser can only mend himself.
The Monk has better defense from melee, the bruiser has better defense from magic, it's especially viable in PvP.
Monk lvl 50+ gets a buff that makes him immune from melee for 20 seconds or so, when enhanced through AAs.
Bruiser gets a buff that makes him immune to any kind of cc for 30 seconds. That's a killer in PvP. Also a buff that absorbs 3 next magic attacks - very nice when fighting those hard hitting wizards.
In offensive stance monk buffs his attack speed, bruiser gets a damage proc.
I've heard people saying monk is more defensive, bruiser more offensive, but it really depends.
-------------------------------------------------------
Swashbuckler does more damage, brigand has extremlely good debuffs.
Brigand is more dependable on positioning, having lots of good attacks and debuffs that needs you to be behind the mob or person. Swashie has some as well, but less.
Brigand can stun lock for a long time (especially mobs) and just kill a mob being the whole time behind it.
Swashie can self buff his dps by various buffs, brigand has a buff that continually stuns the opponent and that is very viable in pvp.
Swashbuckler gets a buff at 52 or so that makes 50% of his autoattack AOE, making him a good aoe dps.
Generally swash is more damage based, brigand is more based on debuffs and stuns (especially in pvp)
