It's funny there are still just cookie-cutter MMO's out there...

It is funny because OBVIOUSLY many are bored to death of it now....right?

So...there should be a game that actually IS different and not only saying it is.

Sure...there are still thoose that enjoy the cookie-cutter experience...respect to them....but is it not time for something truly different now?

(...and no....SWToR or GW2 doesn't seem to be it...)

Considering how many different games are out there - it might help your case to supply folks with what you consider to be different...what you're not seeing.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I could hardly care even less ...

MMORPGs, to me, are social experiences. You enter a massive world and play with an ambundance of other people. That is MMORPG to me.

And the "cookie cutter" approach to this kind of gaming is exactly the right thing. MMORPGs, being social environments, are games I am playing not for just some weeks or months, like singleplayer games. I play them for years. So yeah, I really dont need them to be overly experimental. I need them to have these features:

    1. No instances (would break the world)

    2. Huge gameworld (lots to examplore, tons of quests)

    3. Complex combat system (demanding and challenging even after you mastered it)

    4. Powerful crafting system (giving lots of chances to optimize further)

    5. Full support for all kinds of socializing, including cooperation and competing with other players (channels, broker, grouping, alliances, sportive PvP, ...)

    6. And in the end, simply beautiful (I am the kind of person who REALLY doesnt like playing ugly characters)
