Star Wars: The Old Republic: Five Days of Early Access

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

An intrepid poster on the official Star Wars: The Old Republic forum has noticed that pre-order customers will be given a maximum of five days early access to one of the year's most anticipated games.

At this point, we here at MMORPG.com don't know if this is a change in the fine print on the pre-orders page or if it's something that has been there all along that we simply missed. Either way, five days is a lot of leveling!

I am betting you get the full game which will be larger than that.

    Oh it will be more...

How much more? Don't know exactly.  I expect between 20-30 gb, closer to 30 imo.

Hopefully they let us pre-load before the 1st day of early access. With my internet speed, thats a whole days worth of downloading. Glad I switched providers though, the old one had a 40gb download cap....

Last I remember one of the devs saying it's closer to 40GB.

They already stated before that the download will be somewhere between 20-30Gb and this is infact already the case with those who are testing (and need to download that whole chunk over and over everytime they change builds!).

I was hoping Early Access would have been more like 10 days but I guess every free day will be fine (Im guessing Early Access wont go out of your 30 days sub you get with purchasing the game).

What I'm curious about is how people who pre-ordered the CE / Physical copy will be able to get early game access. I understand you get a preorder code which more or less puts you in line for early game access, but in the preorder FAQ, it states you will need to also have the actual game code in order to play. So will they be shipping out the CE preorders / physical copys "up to 5 days" before Dec. 20th? (I'm assuming probably not.)

You can play up to 10 days from launch with preorder code...after that you need game code. you'll have to download the client for early access.

That's older info.  I do remember it being said, but I do believe it was put out at SDCC that the client was going to be around 27GB.  That's still crazy big, but not as big as it could've been.

How do you think the testers have been doing it for over a year?

I pre-ordered CE and I noticed that I have a pending future download for SWTOR on Origin when I was getting SIMS for my daughter.

Do you know if that's the installer or the actual client?

Installer is bound to be smaller then the actual client.

Hey guys, let's try to stay on topic. This is not a "Game vs Game" thread.

Excellent!  Really looking forward to it.

So if the planned launch date is 12/20, this means we get early access on Thurday the 15th.  Perfect.

Will be interesting to see how this works out for those folks discussing their guilds and the RP-PvP servers.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I could have sworn that Stephen Reid said there would be more time than that, maybe it was a dream or something.

This could be nothing more than an oversight. We shall see.

So complete strangers who may or may not buy the game get to play the beta and those of us who have actually paid get 5 extra days to be the guinea pigs. Yeah, sounds fair.

I assume it would take me the whole 5 days to download such 40 GB... :(

THE LENGTH OF YOUR EARLY GAME ACCESS DEPENDS ON THE DATE AND ORDER IN WHICH YOU REDEEMED YOUR PRE-ORDER CODE AT THE CODE REDEMPTION CENTER.

So you actually won't have a clue when you are allowed in, as you truly don't know where you sit in the queue. Seems like a sneaky way for EA to control the influx of people to a new game.

    HA!!!!

Who said this from the very beginning???

    Oh yea that's right meeeeeee

They couldnt have made it any earlier as the liscensing rights to SOE do not expire until the 15th of December.

Any sooner would have given Sony the right to sue for breach of contract.
