Seeing how they tried to make every quest more interesting by voice overs and having a choice in conversations, I'd say; no. They did their best to minimize the grindy aspects and make the ride to max level as compelling as possible.
Yes, it is a horrible quest grind. You grind quests to get your gear, you grind quests to get your ship, you grind quests to get your companions. Horrible grind.

so every mmo is a horrible grind? lol
that's like saying KOTOR was a horrible grind (or any single player RPG for that matter).
i think the OP meant doing the same things over and over. yes there will be a lot of that but the class story arc is definitely not a grind.
so i guess you can say this game has the least grind of all the other games? heh
I've met tons of people who consider the well-writen and immersive quests of LoTRO to be a "Grind", however, for me they are what makes that game great.
On the flipside, i DID consider the horribly written and complete irrelevant Rift quests to be a massive grind.
Other people don't consider quests to be a grind at all, to them it's only having to slay thousands of mobs to level that is considered a grind.
So my answer to you is:
if you've considered constant series of solo quests to be a "grind" in any game, there is a good chance you'll find that SWTOR is a grind.
if you've only considered the slaying of mobs to be a "grind", then SWTOR is definitely NOT.
If you're in the middle and only consider certain questing to be a grind, then you need to wait and see.

I hope it's a long grind, that is what will seperate the men from the boys.
I guess that is kind of true. Adults are wise enough and strong to not tolerate a bad grind and boys are too naive and full of false toughness so they do tolerate un-fun BS for fake rewards.
Yes its a grindfest. Welcome to every single MMo that exist that involves you trying to 'get' something.
As far as it goes, a lot of quests seem rather generic and dule, but a nice part is the fact they seem to want to incorperate more 'story' into it. If its done right, it might actualy help to some degree make people forget the fact that quests are just a fancy way to hide that your just grinding.

LOL If you think SWTOR is a grindfest, WoW must have been your first MMO.
SWTOR is another to max level in under a week MMO.

Depends on what grind your talking about. It won't be a grind to max level, it will be average pace for a game and there is voice overs and cutscenes and all the story stuff to remove the grind aspect. But if you're talking about the end game grind, then I think it will be similar to most end game's in your average themepark game, which I consider a grind, but I guess many don't.

it wont be 200 hours if they skip through the cut scenes.
In the same way ANY game or activity is a grindfest. For example,I only noticed wow and lotro were grindy after playing through the same content for so long I'd seen it all before and stopped enjoying it. As soon as I got bored of the same old content they suddenly transformed into a grind. Everything in life is like that though, if you eat Linguine and seafoood every night in the week starting Monday getting through another plate by Friday will seem bland and grindy. This will be no different. Play through it once and stop worrying about it, life is short.

If they skip the cutscenes then they are doing it wrong. That doesn't negate your point but if you rush through games like this then your going to be missing the point of them.
They aren't to get to max level and grind out gear.
They aren't about server firsts (which is why there is no recognition beyond the community for getting one).
It's why you can't instant warp to locations and have to walk. The game is meant to be taken slow and steady.
Basically what i'm saying is if you skip through the cut-scenes then your time doesn't really count as the marker for how long the game normally is, as your not playing the game the way it's designed to be played. Kinda like playing an adventure game with the walk through on the next screen over and skipping all the dialogue.

Yes..every game ever made is in some way a different or same way of a grindfest.
swtor is no different thank god, if its not a grind then i would play for 1 minute and then what?
I must grind xp, grind kills in pvp, grind evil points, grind gear, professions, grind pets, mounts ...grind grind grind.
grind is a state of mind
No it is not a grind fest. Even if it was I wouldn't mind.

Yes, it is a horrible quest grind. You grind quests to get your gear, you grind quests to get your ship, you grind quests to get your companions. Horrible grind.
its like wow in the grind department but not sure if there is a lot of pointless and boring grinds like rep grinding for example.
so every mmo is a horrible grind? lol

Grind or not, I'm still going to play it for a month at least. It's something to do... I'm bored enough.

Yes you have to grind quests. I hate grinding! YUCK!
It depends on what one considers grind.
I've met tons of people who consider the well-writen and immersive quests of LoTRO to be a "Grind", however, for me they are what makes that game great.

Lineage 2 at launch was (and probably still is) a "grindfest".
SWTOR will be nothing like that so the answer to the OP's question is no.

Indeed.
Now if only we could get them to stop players renaming their chars and transfering onto other servers.
We might actually get some community going.
