Been so long since I've played GW1, but doesn't GW1 have some sort of 'pay for PVP skills' or something?
Not saying it is 'P2W' as that definition is up to the individual, but to say GW1 doesn't have anything that'll give you an advantage is factually false.
Advantage in this case would be 'time'.
Only for PvP only characters, so no. People usually don't go PvP before they unlocked their skills in PvE, so there's not many people who buy skills, so it was not a problem.
Anyone who believe gw2 will be p2w are ignorant. The game is not designed for that. It opposes the very foundations of the game, something like this would collapse it. Devs had said in MANY interviews that cash shop will be purely cosmetical. WHY CAN'T YOU ACCEPT THAT?
Just in case this was directed at me.
From my point of view, it isn't 'P2W'.
However I can see why some might take the position that ANY advantage (time/gear/ whatever) that can be bought is a P2W.
Gdemami - Informing people about your thoughts and impressions is not a review, it's a blog.
Like i said GW2 will be fun for about a month cause of easy mode, then most will go to other mmos. But ya i can see GW2 going P2W but they will make it seem not like that at all.
Who says its easy? Your notion thjat it is easy because it doesnt have the holy trinity so combat will be all zerg, or that theres no conventional quests so people will get bored is an asanine statement to make. I assure you this game will not and can not fail due to all the innovation it brings.

Thing is, in GW2 for the competetive PvP You have pre-made gear and max level characters so there is nothing to unlock there. That's why it's called competetive. Everyone enters with equal chances (class balance and group comp aside) .
People afraid of P2W simply do not udnerstand how GW works. Gear is not end-of-all things, it's not WoW where if you fall a tier behind You are at disadvantage.
Can we get a ban on this guy? Wish there was a report post feature.
There is a report post feature and someone has already reported his post.
I find this attitude odd. For some players, it is a valid concern. The way it was worded, while definitely more a case of the OP having a foregone conclusion rather than sharing a concern - people express themselves differently.
If a game is going to have an item shop - what is going to be sold in that shop is going to be a concern for many. There have been far too many cases of companies saying one thing and doing something else - or - changing as time went along.
With CoX, I was fine with the boosters they sold on their web store - until they sold the MA booster. Prior to that, they had just been costume pieces, costume change emotes, and emotes. With the MA booster, they included Ninja Run. Ninja Run was a definite advantage.
Different people, as I stated previously, have different definitions of what P2W means, etc.
Just because somebody does not share your views on it, does not mean they should be banned or reported. If you don't like something that somebody is saying - you're more than free to disagree with them, sharing your contrasting views on the topic - or you can just block them.
Any game that includes an item shop...is a game that I will wonder about. Not all item shops are the same, not all advantages mean the same thing in all games . . . so I do not lump them all in together, but at the same time - one never knows when things may change from one to another.
Just to be clear here, while I don't agree with OP, I certainly don't think that his post deserved to be reported.
Saying bad things about GW2 is just about the fastest way to get a post reported around here.
Nope. That's saying a good thing about Mortal Online... :P

This is thread is suspicious because OP has only two posts, and a similar thread gathered a lot of posts (and trolling) in the GW2 section here. Both threads damage Arenanet's image as trolls continue to feed false information on both games.
They throw mud at these games and I don't know why. Maybe it is fun to see the nerdrage and postcount of your thread go up. Anyway... If you want to read and re-read some of the points made about this subject here is a link for the thread that was closed earlier. It is why I think this thread should be closed aswell.
EDIT: Actually, now that I re-read some of the thread, I realised you were one of the posters who insisted on viewing the matter in a black & white manner rather than with the shades of gray. You are entitled to your opinion ofcourse, but I don't think such way of thinking is not sensible at all. Somehow I got the impression that, for some reason, you wanted to see it as black & white matter.

ArenaNet has stated clearly that they will take the community's opinions into account when deciding what goes in the shop. It's very unlikely they would make it P2W because that would be the complete opposite of what the community is comfortable with. Building and maintaining a happy community is the number one goal of the company (they say they are a community-building company first...games are just a good way to build communities).
I did an actual poll of the community...and 82% of responders said they would NOT want skills in the shop. So, although those were sold under very specific circumstances in GW1, I seriously doubt they would sell skills in GW2. It would go completely against what they've said, and cause a huge shitstorm in the community.
Based on my poll, it's pretty clear what players will and won't be comfortable with in a cash shop, and I think ArenaNet will tread carefully since players being happy and continuing to buy expansions is what will keep them in business. What would be the motivation of making the shop P2W? It might create some short-term profits, but it would destroy ArenaNet's reputation and long-term community. Not likely...I would actually say it's probably LESS likely ArenaNet would do that than some other companies (subscription MMOs) going P2W with their cash shops.
Comments
NC Soft are only publishers. No more no less.
ArenaNet are the developers and they decide these things.
But no. Not in a million years will the game go P2W. It goes completely against ArenaNets philosophy.
The items will stay purely cosmetic just like in GW1.
THE END.
Looking forward to EQL and EQN.
I heard when you fight other people, a pop-up was going to pop-up, and the person willing to pay the most money can instantly kill the other person!

Another person who did not play GW1
Any game has the potential to be P2W, but GW2 has shown through its predecessor that it probably won't be so.
How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?
As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.
