Logged out.

Anyone else have a more positive experience?

So... its hard?  And thats bad?  As tempted as I am to sign back up and give this a try... I really have no interest in a pug-less Raiding environment where my only option that isn't PvP related is to sit in instance queue and hope for a decent group so i can farm for low quality gear =(

Yeah but what is hard about walking up to a mob and going through your rotation?  if you don't win, it's because you don't have the gear.

Of course, it could all be a spec issue, but that's a different issue for a different time.

I think it's puzzling to implement a solo quest hub that requires raid gear to solo successfully.  Aren't non-raiders always clamoring for more non-raid activities to do?  I don't raid in Rift, and quite frankly, don't play it all that much anyway, so I'm not expert at playing it, but to me, logic dictates that 5-mans would be difficult but not so much the solo questing.  As it stands, the solo content isn't really soloable to people without pretty good gear, and the 5-man is, at the moment, next to impossible with a PUG or so I hear.

The one thing WoW does right is Blizzard makes it a cinche for late-bloomers to catch up to the masses, but it would seem Trion is still stuck in the mentality of "you must complete A before you can start B," and all that does is make the mountain that much steeper with every content patch.

In the end, I think this situation is the exact reason why you (and I) should continue to stay away from Rift.

The new mobs have just over 13,000 hp each. And can be solo pulled if your smart about it. To make it super easy duo with 1 friend whos healing spec so you both dont have any down time.

The mobs are level 52, I just watched a level 45 run up and pull 4 mobs and try to AE them lol.   As for the rest of 1.6, mages are now the PvP gods, Ember island is pretty, rest is meh.  Cant wait for TOR to come out and remove myself from this game, tired of the Devs playing musical pvp class godmode

  • gorro187gorro187 Member UncommonPosts: 234

Not trolling but please dont try to act like tor has done something not seen with pvp. Im not breaking any nda by saying that. It will have plenty of balance "issues around pvp" post popping up soon enough. But let's not derail this thread. You just need to think befor you pull. And if you just log into rift to see the new content you cant be attacked by mobs right away due to you have to port into the zone and it spawns you at your factions hub.(safe area as far as mobs).

Thought:  Balancing 8 classes might be easier than... what is it like 4 classes with is it 8 different unique talent trees for each class making each class feel like 8 different classes.  So thereby having to balance 32 "classes" vs Tor's 8.  (And considering Tor is probably going to try to do mirror balancing with their similar classes on opposing factions that brings the number down to 4 sets of classes each balanced against its nemesis class.

Might be easier for them to balance PVP...

And that's were the problem lies when you make content with the idea in mind that everybody raids. Raiders get mad at soloers because they want gear close to raid gear so that can actually, you know do content. They use the same words "why do you need raid gear if you do not raid?"  Answer: because post 50 patch solo content is designed with the idea in mind that the players are geared as such. Even expansions come out with the assumption that the playerbase is geared out in raid epics. This has been seen time and again in WoW, the only difference is that WoW tries to make the last tier of gear available for everyone so that they can progress through the new content.

Also. You don't need to raid and have raid gear to do ember isles normal mobs. Aka the ones who are there for basic quest. Theres new better essences for 50 inscribed stones and 5000 planerite each. +new epic gear and weapons from vendors in both factions main citys. You can already get 10 inscribed stones from each zone invasion completion and randomly sometimes off mobs as you do the events. 6 from your daily raid rift. and more. And those examples are ways to save them up prior to whats added in 1.6. If someone want's to be proactive and improve. Ill gladdly show you exactly where you can get the stuff you need so you can do the isle's. its not that hard. People can type anything on the forums and make it seem much more weighted than it really is. sorry for the wall of text.

I love the patch.  It is an amazing patch.  A dungeon with three levels of difficulty.  2 New T2 raid rifts.  A new 10 man dungeon, Hundreds of quests, a new puzzle, new pets, new craft recipes, new faction, new gear, new zone events, acjhievements, artifacts, fluff items, mproved graphics with more color added and so much more.

I have played all day on the island in the dungeon and the 10 man.  It is amazingly well done.

I see complaints that its to hard for new 50's.  But its not designed for new 50's there are three zones already for new 50's plus chroinicles and 10 dungeons for them.

I am just amazed at the amt of content.  Its a like a full expansion.  Never seen a game so well supported.

^ This.  I am not in raid GEAR but in fulll T2 and I was able to solo pull any NPC in Ember Islands.  This zone was to add content too the game for 50's that have been playing for a little while.  You can get full T2 epics in a little over two weeks and still have thousands of things too do in Stillmore, IPP, Shimmerlands.  If you hit 50, head to EI then you should expect a huge challenge.

a lot of the guys skipped raids etc to gear up and now they expect to pawn without having gear?ho lol what a tipical wow mentality!

This patch sounds like it offer 2-300% more than last update for Lotro that cost players $29.95. I quit rift, think being a part of 3rd best guild in the world just killed the game for me. Tbh this is one of the best MMO launched since Wow. When I played, I was too quite amazed with how fast they added content. But back then it was added with so many bugs it was getting a bit ridicules. Hope this is better, cuz it will be hard for Rift to maintain with SW:TOR / GW2 / Diablo 3 coming out ..

After an hour of the new content sub cancelled, utterly DIRE, sorry but I just CBA with it, had np with the mobs I met was just bored stupid the whole time.

My Colour Is Vomit green, I puke on the tards with stupid colour sigs. My symbol is ,,!, O ,!,, My enemies are any prat with a colour sig, a meaningless personality test, or a pointless list of games and classes.

    Regards Hexcaliber

Oh ye sounds like any other update, rushed and not test firmly... but its content after all and keeps ppl busy. Guess rushed content is better than no content, talk to Turbine about no content for Lotro and they might help. They usually update the game with 10% of this content every half year ..

I am not a raider but through crafting and rifts I have mostly blue or low epic gear. I found the mobs on Ember Isle tough but doable. Went against them with a rogue and warrior (riftblade) and did them fine. I can't handle two at once but luckily the mobs are spaced well enough (at least for the early areas that I went into) so that you can avoid that situation with a little planning. Like Ember Isle so far. The rewards are worth it (and I did not even know about the new stuff mentioned by an earlier poster). I too will be going to SWTOR but I am keeping my Rift sub active.

Most likely you failed on the first event because the areas that needed to be defended fell.  It happened on my server while fighting the metalic dragon.

The only things bugged I have seen are the new T2 Raid rifts and that appears to be mroe with not including the timer on the quest tracker ffor stages 3 and 4.

The biggest downside I can see to the new patch is its very hard to get excited about going to one of the old zones.  I see notices pop saying an event has started in Shimmer or Stillmoor.  A week ago I would have been excited and gone there.  Now I have no desire to leave Ember Isle.

The new sourcewell mechanics are very fun. There are 13 sourcewell areas.  They each have two different types of turrets, healing turrets and offensive cannon type turrets.  You can upgrade each one 4 times up to exceptional and heal them when needed using planar charges.  The more you upgrade and the more people you have at sourcewell the more invasions you get.  Each of the sourcewells has a kill 20 invasion quest.  The Zone events are designed to use the different sourcewell areas so one can pick up the daily sourcewell quest when they are sent to that area.  The new mechanics here are very well done.  You can do them solo, duo or in a raid,  Each well has a slightly different setup.

The patch is just amazing.  It is so much more than I would have ever expected.  The quantity and the quality are both amazing.  All the hidden quests, the events, the new dungeon, the sourcewells, the new collections, puzzle, achievemens,  and so on.  It is just a long list. Most companies would charge you $40 for this and call it an expansion.

Maybe even better than the update is what this patch said about Trion.  It said they  care about the long run future of the game and are willing to invest in the game and support it.  Rather than trying to make a quick buck charging people for this they are hoping to keep people for the long run.  After so many failed MMO releases where their games were not supported (Vanguard, AoC, Warhammer and so on) it is refreshing to see a company that cares about long term subs.  But I guess Hartsman did the same with EQ2.  While Eq2 failed at launch it did make a nice comeback and added a ton of new content.

The reaction to Ember Isles will be a good test for Trion.  I see a lot of whining on the boards stating how EI is to hard and the mobs have to much health.  If they give in to these people it will be very bad for the future.  It is impossible to keep those people happy.  If content is not made for only them they will throw a fit.  Hopefuly Trion will hold their ground.  I have not seen a lot of psoitive reactions on the boards.  But then again people have been playing E! 12+ hours a day so its hard to post.  I hope people like it because it was heck of an upgrade.

  • catlanacatlana Member Posts: 1,677

Trion definitely works on getting content out in a timely manner. I have been pretty happy with the pace of their development.

I read someplace that discontent people are far more likely post their discontent. Those happy with the update are busy playing the update. It's like...they are seeking validation for the fact they don't like something or are unhappy with it so they post up hoping to find others who agree with them...and thus, validating their personal misery.

    Just sayin.....

"Misery loves company", what is sad is that they actively try to bring everybody down as well.

I thought it was great to actually have a more challenging area to adventure in.  Rift up until Ember Isle is on extreme easy-mode.  I think Ember Isle is the best looking part of rift as well.  My disappointment that all the content is consumed after just a couple days of play.  It was pretty depressing on how quickly the quest-line went.

I guess that is par for the course with a linear theme-park MMO.  Dang, I sure miss Vanguard.

The first quest I got was wack-a-mole 6 times, and since they died pretty slow it felt like grinding. The next quest was wack some more moles. Thank you, but no.
