I had a great time being among the first to 50 in GF (way back when), but Aeria Games has a knack for spoiling good games with their cash shop tactics.
If you're not the ultra-competitive type and don't mind the grind, go for it.
Mabinogi is a bit more unique (and social) than Grand Fantasia in my opinion. The rock, paper, scissors combat system is unique. It has a lot going for it and seems to have a decent amount of content. I'd recommend that over Grand Fantasia personally. If you aren't specifically looking at those two and want something similar to Grand Fantasia only a bit better mechanics wise in my opinion try Eden Eternal (also Aeria Games).
I wouldn't recommend getting to attached to either game though as they both can be huge money sinks at end game if you want to stay competitive.
Thank you both for your responses. ATM, I'm going to start with Mabinogi. But to be honest, they both still look interseting to me, so I know I'll end up downloading GF as well.

Mabinog, no doubt. If you start on the Mari server I can give you some starting gold and such. It's a game you have to play to realize how good it is.
