What's the nicest looking MMO right now?

CalmOceansCalmOceans Member UncommonPosts: 2,437

I might invest in a new PC and I want to try an MMO that is really pretty looking or graphically intense.

ArcheAge is pretty nice but I don't think I can see that yet, I will try Skyrim and Rift, but I need the BEST looking.

Which is the best looking MMO right now? Can even be videos of MMO to come.

Thanks!

I would say AOC and FFXIV in terms of detailed environments.  LOTRO in terms of scenics.

Just my opinion mind you but for overall best graphics combined with the best optimized engine coupled with a unique combat mechanics gameplay I would have to say Tera hands down.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

Depends on what you think is best looking really. AOC looks nice, I didn't care for the player models. DCUO and the other comic games have great worlds built and some of the best animation. LotRO on max is always good to look at. Honestly WoW always surprises me whenever I go take a peek at it with the graphics turned up. Good color use, still probably the best animation / reactions in a MMO, SWTOR looks better than most people say. APB and a few other shooter MMOs are rather impressive, by far the best player models as for proportions and texture goes to APB. Every other game, RIFT, EQ2, AOC really don't look that great when you look in terms of human proportions.

Buy your machine for the next batch of games. But looking for specs to run Skyrim on ultra max ubers will do ya good for MMOs probably for the next 8 years considering how slow growth is in that dept.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

    AION

AoC, STO and Rift stand above pack of the ones I have played IMO, LotRO, Fallen Earth look decent too.

Age of Conan is definetely the best looking MMO out right now, if you got a good rig the game will look as good as some single player games that came out recently. Biggest problem with AoC is Funcom their support, greed and how slow they push out content.

Iv played pretty much everything that has come out lately and although not an MMO Skyrim is the best looking by a long way. Definately suggest you get it if you don't mind RPGs and are looking for stunning graphics and art.

If you're considering Skyrim for good graphics...consider BF3 instead, it shits on it. As always bethesda is way behind in graphics.

AOC has been the most rig intensive MMO i've played, others such as APB and FF14 also require fairly good hardware.

On the singleplayer side try Skyrim and Battlefield 3, preferably skyrim as it does stress the system quite a bit when maxed out and I myself have dropped to 35fps.

Best graphics?  Technically speaking, that would be Final Fantasy XIV followed by Age of Conan.  Of course, I personally think you'll be more impressed with Vanguard Saga of Heroes.

I'm pretty certain there's no real argument about this. Polygon count, art style, realism Battlefield 3 is almost stupidly intense. I got a decent rig and run it on lowest just to stay speedy in the game.

If you want a system that'll last awhile spec for BF3 hitting 60 fps maxxed out. I wish I had that kind of money not tied up. LoL

Battlefield 3 will stress your system much more than Skyrim, if you are having problems with Skyrim on Ultra  I dont really know how you can run BF3 on max settings, the lighting alone is pretty intensive on the CPU and GPU.

Best looking MMO out there has to be TERA, AoC is getting a bit outdated already, the world is alright but character models and armour are pretty poor imho and everything has that plastic look while trying to be realistic which is mainly cause their lighting model sucks.

Im choosing mortal online if you got a powerful enough pc to run it on the hgihest settings, Mainly for that awe of realising you can climb up pretty much any mountain you see in the distance.

FFXIV is beautiful. AOC is alright but there is something about the style that tends to lead me away from it. I would say as in graphics quality either FFXIV or Aion(the updates Cry engine is amazing even if I don't care for the game in general)

Play with Ultra on Battlefield at about 70-80 fps, Skyrim seems to cap at 60 so I'm not sure if it goes higher then that or not but my fps in skyrim drops to 40s in certain places, constant 60 in outside areas.

My personal experiences: Age of Conan and Aion.

EVE Online is amazing too, but it is "out there", both literally and figuratively!

RIFT is visually stellar and makes great use of lighting (next-gen lighting for sure) but the game lacks character and ambiance.

"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."

I need to take this advice more.

that would be poor bethesda coding, not good graphics, dont be confused.

Yeah Vanguard has some amazing graphic but now and again i find myself looking at something in game and wondering what happened. I have played FFXIV and i really think it's overrated and the world is as drab as it get's for a MMO,not good imo.

AOC has great character models and water but that's where it stops imo, the scenery and sorroundings are no where as nice as LOTRO.

As for non MMO then i really think The Witcher 2 trumps Skyrim.

Never said anything about better graphics, just pointed out which games were stressing my system. Some amazing looking games such as Aion are able to run on quite low end machines and still look stunning so its hard to use those as suggestions if your looking to stress a new machine.

If you want graphic high quality, do NOT play MMOs ... this is pretty much the genre with the worst graphics out there, for simple reasons:

    1. MMOs are HUGE. Creating high quality graphics takes a lot of time. Its impossible to do for something like a MMO world.

    2. MMOs GROW over time in their gameworld size.

    3. MMOs are like everlasting. Thus keeping up with current graphics would require a complete remodeling of the whole gameworld again and again and again.

Some[ PPl seem to be getting off topic.  I think SWTOR and GW2 have pretty good grphicsa dn should sit hih for some time o come.

I would go with rift, aion, and aoc since those look as wel as play pretty well overall. even heaven forbid some of the f2p games look pretty good as well. it is a matter that alot of the more asian market games look quite abit better graphically to other western games. THough take into account that your dealing with a style that is not for everyone as has been shown in many posts in threads. Terra, blade and soul are for me two of the best looking so far swtor looks to come in behind them somewhat.
