I particularly like that the companions' reaction to your conversation responses isn't cut and dried. Republic companions won't necessarily prefer the "good" response, nor the Imperials like the "bad" one. Some even seem to be based on faction preferences. One companion may like LS responses most of the time, but may react sourly to your giving an NPC "mercy".
*spoiler alet*
Ya like the first IA companion. She loves it when I am mean to people and mostly choose dark side choices.
However, later on, I told a fellow IA off for being an alien in the empire and I took a huge negative with my companion. At first i didn't know why, she was usually liking me when I was evil, until I realized that she was offended because she was alien too.
So ya, its not always cut and dry, even with you companions and I love it.
"But we all agree that the quasi-Clone Wars look of the characters and world are a damn sight better than if BioWare had tried to make the game look like the live action movies."
No, we don't all agree. I didn't like SWG at all but I think the character models all looked a lot better there.
While I do think the TOR is a superior game to SWG, the giant steroid-laden, barrel chested characters are laughable... and not in a funny way. Luckily, some of the body sizes are more realistic and don't look as awful. But I still would have much preferred a live-action look. Or hell, even what BioWare did in the Dragon Age or Mass Effect series.
i actually disagree. While i wouldnt mind a few more body type chocies especially on the female siad. As mike b fony put it they have need a thriple cheeserburger need a double cheeser burger, need a cheeserburger and ate a cheeseburger.
That said i like teh character models and the basic style of graphics. There the type of graphics i perfer in my mmos. Myabe wow did that to me but i have played more realistic looking graphics games and i liked tor alot better.
Thats my opinion i can understand if u dont agree.
That said my 5 things are easy
1 story is amazing.
2 worlds looked very well done and felt iconic to me even though i only saw starter worlds.
3 choices, and while soem say they dont matter they do really. If i kill a guy he cant help me later on and there were cases where i could help a jedi escape or not, i could bring this stuff to the twilek gaurdian leader or destroy it like the matriach wantted. I didnt play long enough to see what consequenses of them woudl end up being but i had choices that mattered.
4 combat in tor felt more heroic then in wow to me. while it was familiar and easy to learn it felt more engaging then in other mmos. i guess cause i didnt feel like iw as killing things for no reason. I had a reason in tor that made them feel more then the sum of there parts. It also just felt like star wars to me.
5 map. I loved the map and the way it went translucent while i walked this really helped if iw asnt in danger of beign attacked.
there are other things but these are the main things i can think of.
I couldn't disagree more with number five. I hate the 'stylized' cartoonish look they picked. Something remotely similar to the trailers or even an updated version of KOTOR's graphics would have been far better.
5: Graphics: toons look too cartoony for my taste but the environments look really great.
4: Light and Dark side: biggest let down about this game, light and dark is just a flavor while levelling up, in the end it's only about faction. Very unstarwarsy, unbelievably unstarwarsy actually.
3: Flashpoints: hope you're right about this.
2: Companions: I find turning every class into a pet class a poor design decision. I don't think they add much to your character. Seeing those companions all over the place, meh.
1: Yes, the story, branching storylines, the one thing you can really count on being done right.
It's funny, but there is literally nothing that appeals to me about this game apart from the fact that it is Star Wars (which I tend to enjoy), and the bounty hunter class.
I definitely agree with 3, 2, & 1. SWToR was finally a game where I enjoyed questing. The VO really added alot. I also enjoyed pvping quite a bit. There are some balance concerns that I hope are being addressed thou.
i disagre light and dark are just a flavor . Dark side choices will slowly change the way your character looks.
Im sorry i liked the dark / light side choices. Like on inquistor i had a choie to shock a guy or not on smuggler i could pursuade woman to tell me where to find what i as looking for a vaccine i think ro threaten this kid she was with.
The choices were cool and i liked them.
Teh graphics are well done u may not like the style they chose but the enviroments and even what they give uf or character model choices are well done for the style they choise. I personally like the art style. I perfer it to realisitc. I dont know why people want realistic.
Story itself was just amazing and companions what i used of them were kinda cool. I like that i can get godo pts or bad pts with them based on choices i make or things i say to them.
I dont see companions as pets either. I think overall there ia is better then wows pets. My guy never went off attackign random guys for no reason. IN wow that happens to me and gf all the time even on passive or defensive.
u dont have to agree with me but i loved this game and will be playign it from early acess on and im gonna be playing it for many years for one big reason i had a blast in tor universe. It was a blast and social converstaions were just amazing.
And when next week Bill writes down "5 things we don´t like about SWTOR", then be prepared to read:
"aaah, nooo"
"trololol"
"did we play the same game?"
"this site sucks"
"panda-lovers"
"there are so many good previews"
...
Yeah i agree.
SWTOR fans really can take any negative comments about this game but i would love to see the reaction to..

Do you know how pathetic you sound? why are you even following AA if you are so put off by anything Asian. AA dose not need the US to be a hit as a matter of fact name me any western mmos that are being made that even come close to what AA is offering. You can't..
Ironic. I can quote more posts since whole topic is so full of win.
I would like to see a 5 things we don't like as well. I'd never shy away from a intelligent debate. Redundant trollish talking points, on the other hand, really gets me going. Hopefully the list will avoid these topics:
Leveling Speed
Space combat
Solo ability
Questing mechanics
Turn-based combat
Either way it would be interesting to see.
"Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas."
I totally agree with this list. And I like even other stuff not mentioned in the article. I've been testing TOR since APR of this year and I can honestly say that each build has gotten progressively better. I honestly like the fact that the game is not a graphical power house and it shows that while the graphics were important to Bioware, it wasn't their main concern. Nailing that "Star Wars" feeling was (minus the George Lucas Lazy Writing syndrome). And boy do they nail it. I was also at E3 and all I can say at this point is if launch impresses you, wait until you see what they have planned for this game. All the Haters aside, this game will sell PCs. NUFF SAID!!
I was not sure how much I would enjoy the BW story in an MMO. I am impressed but I have found it can also be very grindy when you go to plat the other AC of the same core class or other class that shares your starting home world. I personally think BW story is its strongest and weakest link at the same time. Also I wonder if new content will come out out fast enough with voice actors, to keep the fans happy. MMOs have a hard enough time keeping up with their communities.
What I like is the choices have a point, the first time through I did the "right thing" at least from my point of view, this gained me some light side ppoints on my sith inqusiter. The 2nd time I made choices that were self serving and sure enough those choices lead me to missions I did not have the option to do the first time and I ended up with some cool gear. They make a difference. Most other games that have made a passing attempt at letting players make choices at the end of the day it really did not matter, you could choose the convo option to tell the guy to go sit and spin or the yes sir option and the end result was exactly the same and affected nothing. Good job Bioware.

Strange, I am a SWTOR fan, even more so since the last beta weekend, and I don't have a problem with people not liking the game or certain features of a game. What I do have a problem with is people bashing ANY game simple because they don't like it and feeling that everyone else shouldn't either. Personally, I have lost what little bit of interest I did have in several other games, but you don't see me going over there and bashing the game daily like you see here so often. As a matter of fact, both of you seem to do it quite a bit, so what does that say about you?
"If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?"
4: Light and Dark side: biggest let down about this game, light and dark is just a flavor while levelling up, in the end it's only about faction. Very unstarwarsy, unbelievably unstarwarsy actually.
Actually, its not only flavour. If you are a jedi knight and choosing only dark side responses, gaining dark side points then your apperance will become corrupted. You will look EVIL, very much so and you will unlock evil looking gear as well.
<- Sith corruption, this is only tier 2 corruption, there are 8 or 10 tiers of sith corruption.

Light and Dark side is about a lot more then stats and gear and flavor.
It's about STORY!
If you can't appreciate how awesome it is to be finally playing a MMO that allows you to ROLE PLAY a fallen Jedi or Sith on the edge of salvation... then you are playing the wrong game.
It's not your role play of the past - where you'd just kind of pretend to do these things by dying your armor a certain color or saying certain things in character.
It's actually happening, there, in game, you can see it and feel it and it changes the story and your perception of the world around you and the world's perception of you.
100% agree with everything said by OP ... I've played the beta twice now (two sessions.. 6 days total.. with very little sleep...). My first impression of the game was actually disapointment... I was like.. hrmm .. bog standard MMO.. pretty much plays like EQ, EQ2, Wow, etc... and I've honestly been wanting to get away from that so was kinda meh, but as I played I found myself getting wrapped up more and more into my characters story and really got hooked on the game. I was evem more so surprised as I tried three other classes how different and unique thier stories are. The game really does play like a KOTOR game, only with a bunch more people playing at the same time. So if you approach it from that angle its really an excellent excellent game with all the qualities nessicary to become the next big thing in MMOs (No .. not a panda killer, but just as big.)
The 5 pluses are good ones. The story is what gives the replay value for me. Been a blast beta testing SW:TOR, and will very happily instruct my bankers to sub for the game.
I think the list is right on, but it does not emphasize something I have noticed in the game and that is the sheer re-playability. The story is everything but it is also dynamic every single time. I can play a class storyline one time with one individual and then play it again with another toon and answer one question differently and have totally different endings and options from that point forward in the conversation.
This allowed me to play the same class 3 times and although always through the same zones the quest giver and feel of each of the characters ended up being totally unique each time.
That and quest givers I actually care about (as my wife put it "I HATE my damn trainer! I cant wait till I get to kill him") have spoiled me to the point I cannot even play the other games I used to play even now that some are F2P

I'd strongly argue with #5, look. While not bad, some elements are really just sub par. Like the REALLY mediocre textures.
