I would recommend to get a trial account, take some time and give it a try. The souls and possible combinations need some level and talent points to grow, so don't judge your character too soon. Souls that don't do much at an early stage can be great just 2 levels later.
But if you don't even know if you should give it a try, it's perhaps not the best point in time to do so now.
If i was you, i'd give it a try...but i'd first wait until i'm shure that i want to.
Rift is a good game. Very social, dynamic, and fun.
My only problem with the game was how long it takes to kill anything. It has the old-skool whack-on-a-mob-for-five-minutes thing going on, and as much as I enjoyed the rest of the game, combat was too tedious for me.
Heh, the combat I liked, the rest of the game became tedious to me. I can t stand Rifts after the millionth time, and those damn world events, of collect these tears, zap these mobs in the city, collect something from rifts, every single time. Ugh so boring.
I think it has a free trial so I would give it a shot. It wasn't my cup of tea really, but it was well done for what it was. Only you can decide if you like it or not, but I would say it's worth a look.
Haven't played MMOs in a year and a half or so, but when I did I played DAoC for about 6-7 years. By far my favorite game I've ever played but now it's population is so small and there is so little interest it seems hardly worth it to reactivate. Is Rift worth the $40?
If you've played/liked DAoC would you recommend Rift? No other MMO has really caught my interest but Rift on paper definitely looks worthwhile. And it seems to not have had an epic population drop since release, right? Warhammer and AoC I tried but were clearly without.
Thanks for the help.
no Rift its not worth $40... if you never played WoW you may last long in Rift for sure... i have never played DAOC past starting area so i cant say anything about it besides its dated mechanics arent good in 2011+
if u want to play Rift, try the free trial and if u like it wait for a special sale they always do and sell the game cheap...
i only can recommend Rift if you are the type of gamer that only keeps 1 character.... as there is no fun at all in rolling alts here (u do the same things at the same places with every race + races arent much varied or inspiring)...
the game can be fun and boring at times with Rifts and invations... ur best bet is to get the free trial and decide for urself
about population.... near launch it had most servers on high pop, now you get at least 2 servers on high pop at peak times for the US region... and the rest at low pop (sometimes med).... population decreased significantly in the past few months. its not fun to play solo in Rift... but you could have more fun if u join an active guild (active as in most players online and doing things you could do with them).... i never found one like that after the earlier months
I'm lvl 50, and I have mid and high lvl quests Ihaven't done, as well as a few zones I haven't even explored entirely.
I have an Alt that I've started, but haven't actually played to much with, but when I do start leveling him I'll have quests and zones to work through that I didn't see my frist time through.
I didn't simply run from one zone to the next, doing every quests I could find, on my way to 50. I crafted, and did crafting questss, I did warfronts, and daily warfront quests, I did dungeons, Rifts, and zone events.
It's kind of like what they put ont he boxes, "your online experience may vary".
Rift is very alt friendly, especially when it doesn't take that long to get to the lvl cap. Some people level doing nothing but warfronts, or nothing but dungeons. Most of the people in the guild I joined have alts. People don't make alts to see different content, they do it to play with a different class, and the way that Rift classes work makes it a rather appealing game to create alts in.
@OP, like everyone else said, try the trial and decide. I personally thought I was tired of mmo's like this and gave the trial a shot out of boredom. I've been very suprised how much I enjoy the game.

If you like pve then yes. If you like pvp then no.

I think they are offering free trial so give it a shot?
