I see it hasn't changed much since I tried it last. Imagine how exciting the movies would have been if all the fights had Luke standing in the same spot swinging his lightsaber at regular intervals while waiting for special attacks to cool down.
My Boots, I Have doubts you acually have played it, if thats the way you see the game.
I keep hearing. "oh I want KOTOR 3, boo hoo." Watch pvp matches, or flashpoints that are streaming at places like Twitch tv. I don't slite you your opinion, but I don't share it.
What MMO's have combat that isn't basically you standing there hitting buttons and waiting for cooldowns? At least TOR has enough animations..from what I've played...to give a better illusion of motion/action. Even first person shooters and games like Mount and Blade come down to standing there a bit and hitting a button. Someone like Mr. Boots please point out an MMO that doesn't have atypical combat mechanics. I'd really love to play it as well.

There are loads of action MMOs actually. Dragon nest, dragon saga, Tera, C9 and loads others im probably forgetting about.
Not saying sitting and waiting for CD is bad, but there are games that use other combat mechanics.
If youve really missed them then you should try them out some of them are fun, specially Tera
I cannot stand listening to this guy. He reminds me of one of those cheesey morning radio show hosts. "RipperX and Marconi In the Morning!"
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

Same, the voice really grates. But he does tend to bring some good insight so still worth watching.
His voice sounds off in this video. Like he dropped the fake accent or something. Personally I like him with the fake accent better... suites how he chooses to speak better. Just my opinion mind you.
I like how people are complaining about how the combat is "standing in one spot". Perhaps you all don't know how to pvp, but YOU'RE the one who is supposed to be making your character move around. You want to jump back then charge again? Move your fingers a few inches and hit "S" and "Space" Not that hard. Don't expect Bioware to make you do all the stunts, thats your job.

TERA losing a lot of its playerbase in its own country doesn't exactly make one hopeful, considering that even Aion beat it in that department.
As for the other MMO's you mention, sorry, that's a meagre handful of which most of them unknown in the west at all, kind of a bad example.

This.
Some people criticising people standing around in 1 spot just don't get it, or have little experience with PvP. Good PvP players move around a lot.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."

Compare it to any Tabula Rasa gameplay (2006 sci-fi MMO ?? ) and u'll see the difference - I know TR didnt made it but thats because of revamped development game and lack of content
But TOR wouldnt stand a slightest change in the combat mechanics ring ... which is just wrong for such a well funded product (whose developers created Mass Effect - that's even more shameful)
I think I actually spent way more time reading and theorycrafting about MMOs than playing them

Tabula Rasa was a fun game, but good PvP it did not have.
You shot with a wonky reticule, just hit whatever was in front of you, the powers were not varied or diverse, it was a poorly done shooter RPG. It was fun, but obviously didn't hit the mark in a number of areas.
The combat mechanics in SWTOR are pretty good, especially in PvP. My main problem with my main character (sage) was going toe to toe with an inquisitor of the same build... talk about boring.. you sit there healing and attacking all day, nobody wins... I might as well be hitting a wall for 20 minutes.
Aside from that, in most warzones you have a good team balance, so its enjoyable, tactical, and fast paced which is what combat nowadays should feel like.
Is the guy commentating being sarcastic? I honestly can't tell, not being funny here, genuine question.
As for the comments about the combat, you're watching a f**k**g video of someone playing a game what did you expect? ofc it looks boring, fps's look like you just spamming until you're actually playing

i complety agree with you but he was asking for MMOs that have a different type of combat and i just answered.
Agreed that RipperX's voice and commentary threw me off.
Disagree about the complaints about the game, I played for a month several builds ago and at least up until level 40 I had a blast. Especially the inquisitor, bounty hunter, agent, trooper, smuggler....Ok, every class I played rocked except the consular and knight. Granted, the consular and knight were a lot like playing a cleric or paladin (personality-wise), two classes which I hate with every fiber of my being.

Yes because moving around actually does what again? Hits and misses are decided by dice rolls. The only thing they added to the formula is summonable cover that gives you an advantage in the hit/miss roll. Staying out of melee range is the only reason to move around.
Ive seen this kind of entering a game before make character and enter game a million timesbefore, are we realy waiting for this?
Looks so dull cheap and if its made and modelled after other games before this one with graphics from 2004 lol
But this is not my cup of tea thats prolly why:P
Sorry i make a negative comment about this game, but i saw this topic on front page of mmorpg.com and i watched the video and as far as i know where still free to reply even its negative right:)
Back to Skyrim untill there will be a good MMO released, not much hope anymore but who knows hehe.
Have fun with SWtor and i mean it guys its just not for me.
Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!
MB:Asus V De Luxe z77 CPU:Intell Icore7 3770k GPU: AMD Fury X(waiting for BIG VEGA 10 or 11 HBM2?(bit unclear now)) MEMORY:Corsair PLAT.DDR3 1866MHZ 16GB PSU:Corsair AX1200i OS:Windows 10 64bit
I played it a few weeks ago but really its not much different than any other MMO. yea, it has different cool features like the dialogue trees but half the people wanna move on to the action anyway.Just the same spamming special moves and kill 10 of these stupid monsters and go talk to Gleep Glop and give him this fire sword. Im not complaing I just excpected a bit more from Bioware and I think 90% be lieing if they said otherwise. I still like it though its definitely cool and fun but the #1 cool thing about it is its Star Wars and we all know and we all will but it,subscribe to it and enjoy it simply for that reason. If t he game was called some genderic ass name it wouldnt be too much better then say Rift or any other new MMO. Again not bashing just commenting because well, this is a comment box

I might consider BH after seeng this video. I like gadgets.
Wow you guys rip on rippers voice instead of how cheap the TAB123 combat makes a game like this feel. He sounds fine to me.

They are fun but not exactly good anyway.
just simply comparing tera's (or other upcoming mmo's) character models/movements to this game, TOR looks like something from 2002.... just terrible..
