I had a great experience today.

On my 59 rogue, I was running though Gadgetzan. I was then mind controlled by a priest. Ok it happens, I play on a PvP server so it wasn't a big deal. Then I see 3 more priests level 58+ with him. Ok so I figured they're goin to mess with me, maybe make me attack a guard or something... but they do something 300 times worse...

They lead me over to the Gryphon Master and make me attack him. When the mind control breaks, another priest MCs me right away. 4 priests could literally keep me under there control forever. So they heal me when they need to, and I end up killing the gryphon master. My reputation goes from friendly to hated, and the guards now attack me on sight.

So for the 1 minute of griefing they did to me, it is literally going to take me days to get my rep back to even "neutral"(rep takes FOREVER to change, especially after I've finished all of the quests).

These are the kind of things that make a community SUCK(not the only thing, of course).

    " I don't care!"

I just play, work around it...like any other MMORPG.

Trying to sell anything via trade channel in IF is a freaking nightmare. Too often some poor guy is just trying to sell something and bammo he gets flamed. Lotta "pfft thats overpriced" to "thief, i found it on ah for this rate" type crap that goes on. Ive been called a flat-out thief numerous times because some moron decided to sell potions for half of what I sell them for. Immature gamers just dont get how to play mmorpgs.

I see similiar issues with selling stuff. Common sense says if 10 players are selling an item for 8-9g, you should sell for maybe 7g to pop it quickly. Instead some idiot will drop it on ah for 1g not realizing the money he lost...the lowered expectations he just created, and the thought in other players head that the other 10 guys must be ripping them off (not knowing that selling said item for 9g is breaking even)

I have yet to go to IF and NOT here flaming for 90% of any trade sale. Its so sad really. Its gotten to the point where I just post my potions on AH and leave as fast as possible. Not really my style either as I rather enjoy and miss the interaction and deals with players. I miss the days of SWG where I was a respected crafter who had numerous business deals with players for orders, custom jobs, etc. This is definitely a bad community.

Here is some advice.. dont play on a pvp server.. or else, that should be expected, also.. bad weather?.. WHAT?..... last, but not least, fighting over nodes? How in the world do you fight over a node? The only nodes worth fighting over are the instance zones where all the good items drop.... and guess what? Their INSTANCED!

You 'my friend' can't see a joke for looking. OMG are YOU really that anal?

guys yourv got to keep in mined that the chat screen really sux...

    you cant see anything there...

i think that part of the interface is VERY VERY poorly diveloped

so if pepole dont respond to your "hi's" that doesnt mean they saw it and ignored you

and if they do... just try to find a good mature guild. thats the best choice :)

I was afraid this would happen. I didn't think the monthly fee would keep the immature audience out :(

I play on a sodding PvP server and so far I've only met 2 immature people. TWO! On a PVP server!

Lineage 2 had a bad community. This is by far not like lineage 2's community.

I did meet an 11 year old today playing the game though, and as stupid as it may sound, WoW should be for 14+ only.

I wonder how many people of whom is complaining actually played on the PVP servers. 90% of the players is concentrated there.

I think (and I hope) the situation on RPG servers is different.

    According to press release

" World of Warcraft has received a 12+ age rating in Europe."

That means nothing to retailers of course.

Well, the community is pretty bad, its bad in comparison to EVE-Online for an example.
  • WillJones420WillJones420 Member Posts: 263
Bad compared to EVE?  How so?  In EVE I saw people camping stargates waiting to gank someone who pops through, camping asteroids, and generally acting like jerks over general chat.  At least in WoW the block of crossfaction communication prevents "OMGZ I PWNZ U NUbSuxXrZ!!!111one!!" after someone kills you.

I have found the WoW community to be very friendly compared to EQdead and EQ2.

All games have immature players who create stupid character names, use lewt speak, and abuse open chat channels, and generally try to be annoying.

Pick up groups are easy to find in WoW compared to both EQs, and I have yet to meet the uberguild persona type in WoW, who think they are better than everyone else, which is prevalant in both EQs.

Now sure ive ran into some idiots, but they have been few and far between. Ive played alot of MMO's and really dont see this game is haveing a horrible community. I ran into alot more jerks in EQ1 than this game. Its funny i know alot people who play, they do not see this as well. wonder how many people are just makeing stuff up just to rant????

What server are you on?! Heck, if you tell me i'll gladly up and move away from the crap i see every day i log on.

Silvermoon has a pretty immature community, i think it's mostly because of the name: Silver (cool shiny metal, kids like it 'cause it's cool image) and Moon (big white thing in the sky, AWESOME!!!). If you're in a server called something like Khardul'churlak you might see fewer kids (unless they like Klingon) because the name isnt recognizeable as "t3h pwnz0rz". Look... Deathclaw (WHOA!! COOL!! LEMMIE IN!!) and LearningLand (Wha? who the heck thought of that?! That's G@Y!!). I think the name is only a small factor, because sometimes you get immature people that dont care and just enter the first server the game recommends.

The fact the game has to stupid-proof things like that are tell-tale signs of a bad community. They knew it would happen by design, and set the game up to handle it. Sure there are a lot of assholes in any game, but WoW is just a place for assholes looking for a place to happen, and they chose to happen on WoW

Actually, you can talk to the other faction in leet speak. ::::18:: Numbers and symbols aren't blocked, which is why you always see "||00|}$" over /yell.

Well you have not played eve a long time then, in eve you got security graded systems all from 1.0 to 0.0 and 0.0 is the lowest and most inscure, but in everything up from 0.4 you can not be killed by players. The community in eve is mostly a great gang. Due to its long time in training and so on you need patiens and a mature behavior otherwise you cant even get a simple trade agreement. So i would say that EVE got atleast 4 times better community then WoW. But thats my assesment...

True enough, I didn't put a lot of time into EVE, enough to give it a fair assessment and to decide it wasn't the game for me. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy EVE, I just there there could have been more to it. Nonetheless, this is another example of people having different experiences with their MMO's. I found EVE's community to be average. They did have some pretty cool people, but mostly I thought it was meh. As for the issue of only getting PKed in .4 systems, I guess that's better than getting ganked in contested or opposing areas, but weren't all of EVE's severs PvP enabled like that?

After listening to you guys I gatta say what I think. I think the community is immature but I don't hate it. these are the most immature things I've experienced:

FIRST:A kid/guy came up to my freind and me and started jumping over us thinking he was casting a spell over us...image!

SECOND:I was playing my Night elf Hunter and a kid/guy came up to me thinking he was my pet. He told me to order him to attack a monster so I did. He killed it then took the loot and said "Ha Ha Ha Ha I took your loot! I wasn't really your pet stupid!"...image!

THIRD:When I was partying with a kid/guy I was following him and he started yelling at me for following him...image!

Pretty bad Comm for an MMORPG, but that's the price for a mainstream game.

At least there are enough servers to chose.

I've found the whole community of WoW to be quite good actually! Everytime I advertise I need help I get like 4 people saying with what! I asked for 5s because I needed to buy something and two people gave it to me. People are nice. Maybe one in fifty are mean, but thats better than normal games.

I dont currently play WoW (will play when its released in the UK) but all games have people in the community who are immature, it does spoil the game at times but you just have to get on with it. The main problem with a game like this is that it will be stocked in games shops world wide, now alot of people have played other Blizzard games and if you played Diablo or Diablo II online youll know that because its a shop game lots of kids can easily get hold of it and play. If WoW wasnt a Blizzard game and wasnt in the shops you would find the community would be a fraction of what it is and thus their would be less immature people.

Best thing you can do is ignore them, or look for a server without as many annoying people on.image
