Like on previous posts, NWN, BG series are turn based. I don't like either one of those games. We all have our own opinion on what's what in a game. I Just don't want to spend my hard earned money on a game i'm not gonna like, I just want to play it before I buy it, but, as for the Diablo II series, it's one of my favorite games. I got tired of playing though. Blizzard needs to reinvest into the diablo game and keep it alive.
Guild Wars is all about interesting combat. Sure, there's target cycle and auto-attack, but success in combat is ALL about what attack to apply to which target and when - IOW, timing. I completely understand wanting to take it for a spin before buying. Try to get hold of a beta access key before the 18th. This site has aleady given away their supply, but there should be some available other places - although apparently a lot less than previous events due to brand new content.
But seriously, if you like interesting combat mechanics in an RPG, Guild Wars is your honey. Like somebody said, it's designed by the Diablo 2 guys, plus the guy who balanced the Starcraft races, plus the original team lead on WoW (who didn't like where that project was heading), plus a bunch of other whacked geniuses.
It's gonna ship with full-blown team PvP combat. It's the whole focus of the game. Seriously. Check it out.
These guys didn't like the way WoW was going? Which way did they want it to go that it did not? I suppose that GW is a manifestation of that vision, but do you have any linkage to something that goes deeper into this?
I haven't seen anything more detailed than "they didn't want to make the next version of the same-old-same-old" kind of statement. It's not hard to figure out which 'features' of WoW made them yawn if you look at the differences between the two. Mostly I'm guessing it was the lack of desire to make a time-sink based game with fluff on top.

You WILL thank me.
