    You can probably disable turbo boost in the BIOS, but stock settings for a Core i5 2500 or 2500K is to have turbo boost enabled.  Having turbo boost on won't void the warranty and shouldn't damage hardware the way overclocking can.

    The idea is that clock speeds that would be safe for one core aren't necessarily safe for all four at once.  So if you're only using one core, you can clock it higher than if all four are under heavily loads.  The processor does this automatically if you let it.  But a H61 chipset is less aggressive about this than a P67 or Z68 chipset, so exactly the same processor won't run as fast.

    Interesting, good to know.  I am about 2 years behind since the last rig I built was an i7 and I didn't have to do anything if I didn't want to.  Didn't realize with the i5's the default is with turbo mode on nor was I up to speed on the different chipsets.  Thanks for clarifying.  I would say you just put me in my place and deservedly so.  I take it you've built some i5 rigs recently?
