I wonder if the are going to make this a turned based system? I hate turn based system. It would be like if you were inna a fight and you're telling the other person that they get to hit you first with you just standing there doing nothing, that's just wrong. Making it real time, would be much better.

could you explain the system any more? is it like NWN or KotOR's semi-realtime/semi-turnbased where you queue actions up and there are sort of invisible 'turns' but the combat still flows in real time??
or will it be more sort of 'arcade' style where you actually controll your attacks? like target the creature and tap this button to swing, tap this one to stab etc? and it happens IN real time like an arcade game?
i personally like both systems. they both have their merits. the way NWN did it was good as the combat looked pretty fluid, even though underneath it is semi-turn based.
and arcade style is good because it's fast and keeps you on the edge. but i've never seen an MMO that has this sort of combat.
wouldn't totally real-time combat be a drain on the servers? and also be problematic with lag.

It'll be arcade, prince of persia style, whatever you want to call it.
They had a scenario describing monster behavior... where a minotaur would lower its horns and charge you; and the player dove out of the way, and the minotaur slammed into the wall and stumbled back dizzy... allowing some free hits for the player. Dodging traps, combat, it'll all be IN real time.
It would be a drain on the server if it was one huge seamless world. But DDO splits things up into smaller than normal servers, and uses instancing a lot.

instancing...? oh dear
my interest has plummeted.

Wait htye wouldn't notice if they got shot with an arrow ro stabbed in teh back? I think I would notice something like that. "Oh no where did this new hole in my come from?"
I think either system is good as well. An arcade style would be interesting becuase it involves a player's own skill. this is not the story behind PnP D&D however. IN PnP its all based on chance. I wouldn't mind seeing a KoToR style combat system (just without the ablility to pause).
From what I've seen in the screenshots it looks like its not going to be turn based and is going to be a more action-based combat system.
There are some inherent problems will all systems though.
Action Based:
These systems usually seem to take away from the RPG factor and also are horrible for people with slower connnections, or ones located far from servers. However, this is a large scale game, so lag and servers should not be a problem.
Turn Based:
These systems usually lead to boring games and are also hard to coordinate. In general though, they add more 'strategy' to the game, however, in today's gaming world people are carrying less and less about strategy and more and more about action. (Which is blatenly obvious from the large number of action games released, and the dwidelling number of Strategy Games).
