Five Reasons GW2 Will Destroy Every Other MMO (Edit: Satire, not to be taken seriously)

MMOtoGOMMOtoGO Member Posts: 630

(Edit: This is satire and should not be taken as a knock at any game or fan whatsoever.  It was my attempt to humourously discuss how fans might over-promise the greatness of a game to the point at which no game could ever live up to.  I'm sorry if anyone thought this was baiting or anything less than a less-than-stellar attempt at satirical humor). I am an avid Guild Wars 2 fan and even contribute toward a GW2 fansite and also have a video blog.  Hopefully this clears up any doubts I have about Guild Wars 2 personally.)

I wanted to post my top five reasons that you will quit your current MMO to play GW2:

#1: GW2 actually gives you immortality.  True story.  Guild Wars 2 has been developed by ArenaNet who have proven to be the greatest creative minds on the planet and they have included scrips in their revolutionary engine that actually makes players immortal.  When you buy Guild Wars 2, you will be infused with those same qualities that make GW2 impervious to criticism and will make you impervious to disease, sickness and even death.

#2: GW2's pvp is so great that nations will be using to solve disputes, thus ending real-wars as we know it.  Think of the countless lives that will be saved when armies will log-in to their GW2 accounts instead of actually going to the field of battle.  The PvP is so emotional an engaging that nations will solve all disputes in the Battle for Khylo.

#3: GW2's community is so mature and helpful that it will replace school classrooms.  Schools as we know it will close and students will all log into their GW2 characters to learn reading, writing and arithmetic.  To faciliate this,  a new dynamic event entitled "Caithe vs. the Dragon of Algebra" will be implemented next semester."  The Asura will also be gaining the trait "SCIENCE" which buffs players with a chemistry lessons.

#4: GW2's art is so breathtaking that museums will burn all former classic works of art (i.e., Mona Lisa) and replace them with Guild Wars 2 concept art.  Once this art is viewed by the public, anything less looks like 1970's wallpaper.

#5: Once GW2 is released, nations band together to rename Earth to Tyria and "in time we'll be dancing in the streets all night."

No wonder everyone is so hyped about this game.  I sure hope the hype matches the game :D

    DO WANT.

Rofl, nice write up. Reading just the title made my retaliation gland vibrate violently for a moment. Good thing I read the rest first.

Yet another completely useless bait thread. Good to see people bringing such a high level of discourse to the community.

Did you read it or are you hard-core counter-trolling?

The title says satire, and I believe a discussion about the insane amount of hype vs. what a company can really produce is healthy.  Plus, it's just fun.  No reasons to be so negatyve mr grumpypants

/shrug... i thought it was funny.

You should have left it. Don't fall back to the lowest common denominator. If people don't get that it's satire, their answers will be all the more entertaining.

Also, today's forum posts all seem to be about how hype is killing the game. Hype this hype that. Am I missing something? With the current information drought, I thought there was hardly anything worthwhile to talk about?

Ok, I took the "satire" back out so prepare for incoming fire! LOL

I have a well-developed sense of humor...the problem is that it's well beyond the third-grade level, so I don't find anything funny about insulting people through ham-fisted sarcasm. There is literally nothing at all in the original post to warrant discussion...only baiting to create arguments.

We're all blind idiots who are excited about GW2 because we're stupid. Thanks for pointing it out in such a clever way. *rolls eyes* So funny.

Or maybe people are hyped about GW2 because of facts they have researched on the game and conclusions they've reached through thought and a decent understanding of the game and the genre. People don't think the game is going to cure cancer...but they do think it's going to be a great game. There's nothing wrong with that which would warrant the amount of ire that it draws from some people.

ZOMG! Thou shalt not take the GW2 name in vain! Hammers of thunder will smite thee for thy (heh) Blasphimy! Your computer will now be subject to the flames of a thousand campfires, and thine fingers shall suffer a pox for such satire invoked upon the holiest of holiest-ness.

I haven't washed my right hand since I shook Colin Johanson's hand at Eurogamer 2011. The man can swing a sword but he couldn't swing me!

I have all the respect in the world for your opinion.  I'm sorry that my sense of humor fails to live up to your discriminating tastes.  Thankfully there are plenty of folks who enjoy my crude, uneducated, childish humor to merit such posts.  And I want to thank you for contributing to this non-existent and unconstructive discussion about the hype of GW2 by actually adding to the discussion about the hype of GW2.

To be fair nearly every MMO has some hype to it, some more than others.  How many times have we all been let down on release day. Darkfall, FFXIV, Warhammer, to name just a few.  At least with Guild Wars 2 they have shown enough videos and been upfront of what they are trying to achieve, how many other publishers have been so upfront about their product? not that many.   I've seen more bait and negative threads than ive had hot dinners the past few weeks and none of them will tempt me not to buy it.  I'm not a Star Wars fan but its not going to stop me trying it out and hopefully the Beta weekend may convince me of buying that to.

I'm not expecting anything spectacular with GW2, though I think I've seen enough to turn around and say yes this game is looking pretty good.

No there isn't Fozz, but lets be a bit careful here...

Over on the SWtOR side of thing the lightest negative critcism is seized on and the poster personally savaged in order to shut the debate down, I don't really want that to be the norm here (not that I am suggesting thats what your doing... I am just talking about knee jerk defensive reactions in general).

We don't need to be over sensitive and on the defense, this game is obviously going to be a great evolution of the genre. It won't be perfect, fine, but it will be good enough that the odd imperfection won't be a worry.

This game is good enough and speaks loudly enough for itself to stand a bit of gentle prodding. :)

My biggest concern with overabundance of hype, is that every flaw will make headlines.  I'm not sure how helpful this is to the game.  If everybody thinks that GW2 is everything then the game will be scrutinized more than any other MMO in history.  It's refreshing to see honest critiques of GW2 and I hope they continue.  The fans (and I'm one of them) need to give an honest look and admit shortcomings.  It doesn't help ArenaNet one bit to be surrounded with a bunch of mindless yes-men that applaud everything they do.

I, as a fan as well, agree.

Nothing is improved or corrected by polarised denials of potentiol pot holes.

Lets talk about them, pressure to get them fixed, and see an EVEN better game drop.

Nice write up, unfortunately I can only agree with #3 and #4, don't be so naive dude.
