Citizen Zero is going to come to xbox and xbox live.. It will probably come out for xbox 2 though, since, xbox 2 will come out like at the end of the year, and I do not think they would finish before than to ship to xbox.
You played on a PvE server then, my friend. You CAN PvP anywhere in WoW, but only on a PvP server. Ganking was bad problem though...
Anyways, I'd like to create an MMOFPS, I'm learning C programming, and by the end of spring I should be able to make primitive games at the least. I think I might hit better with the creative part of the thing though. Doubt me if you will...
Anyways, yea, the MMOFPS of the future would require you to shoot at the dragon, not click boxes.
There just simply is no player skill in MMORPG's...most time = l33t character.
Guild Wars promises to be skill based, but I'm doubting it strongly. Is it whoever clicks boxes the fastest? Wow, I'd own in that game
ww2online is atm the only mmofps game im interested in, ive tried planetside i canceled my subscription after playing 6 month, it's not bad the devs are adding content.. bad content imo.. for example, BFR's. Big giant infantry/tank/plane killing mecha's which they shouldn't have added imo, they should listen more to the community because they have GREAT IDEAS! i mean, check out http://www.planetside-idealab.com they should have added more urban areas, vehicles, grouping/outfit enchancements/extras, weapons. instead of alien crap or BFRS
i hope soon there will be a MMOFPS just like Planetside but more urban-ish (Urbanside!) with realistic weapons/vehicles (so no bs like lasers, me wants lead!!) and a bit of RPG in it. and outfits should be called regiments or divisions and those regiments and divisions should all attack/hold a specific area which is being told by the high command (like ww2ol) and stuff like radars, bridges, factories should be important No radars? -> no communication no bridges? -> no supplies no factories? -> producing reduces
Yea, I played PS for about 6 months as well. Community had great ideas. BFR's sucked terribly, and I didn't want to spend $20 on an expansion to use 'em.
What I would have given for a flamethrower in that game...
Anyways, I was thinking something like PS, with more of a fantasy scheme thrown in. Instead of BFR's there should be BFM's (big *bleep* monsters) that you could possibly train ( I like SWG animal capture system). Possibly it could be sci-fi on an alien world with different races, etc.
But the twist of the game would be that possibly a low-level character in the game who was a Counterstrike CPL contender could take out a high-level mob of critters because he was skilled. That is skill, my friends. Picture it as boss fights in the new Oddworld or Painkiller...yea. Plus PvP...friggen dynamite
I met Matt Simmons of Smilling Gator. They are developing what they hope to be the first real MMOFPS called twilight war (www.twilightwar.com). Looks cool, they licensed the Valve engine to get that real FPS feel. Downside is, its a long way to go before beta - Q12006.
Originally posted by Greatness Originally posted by hauntd Originally posted by spizz offline ? are u kidding...of course online and why it should no possible, just take out the level grind and put in more content for adventures and story. thats it and really not that difficult. Amen. Plus, besides what youve stated already, spizz, a few defining features are needed to net a buyer. WoW = great PvP EQ2 = great graphics (as shown, they actually suck ) What would the mmofps of the future be like? And spizz, I'm not trying to get into a war scenario here. I'm talking a bit like WoW that involves you shooting your arrow and you swinging your sword. People's minds automatically think "WAR!!!" when they hear FPS. I'd prefer to click AT a big ugly monster than click at a box to attack it.LOL! W0w-Good pvp? OMG! I hate that type! Such a carebear game(no offense). I like to play Lineage 2 or something like that. PVP ANYWHERE!!!
i understand that every player has his own desires in gameplay, content and of course type of art. but in my opinion the well known mmorpgs out there with pvp have always the same aim - at the end war you cant deny it, most of the people are killing hours and hours ai mobs to get more xp, better weapons, better armor, .... to be better in the fights of endgame (of course if pvp exist like this, you have to understand that i need pvp in mmorpgs cause only fighting ai mobs is not my thing) so war plays a big role in many mmorpg´s, skilling, to achieve power over other players or just be better even you only click 2 buttons like the opponent.
i can imagine new mmorpg´s could be a mix between roleplaying and fps. after we have many mmorpgs games alreaedy with similar gameplay and basics, i think those games wont survive forever. new ideas will be introduced in future games. just imagine you have one huge world with 2 or more races/fractions, doesnt matter for me if you fight with a sword or with modern combat gear, and you can explore the world like you are used from other games. even ai monsters and wild animals would exist, you would get missions for fights, economic, entertainment, crafting, maybe architecture.
the only different is that you dont have to kill hours and hours ai mobs to get xp for better weps & co. no, you have to learn skills with your mouse, joystick or whatever. due to more races or factions would exist, moving frontlines could be implemented, capturing villages or castles when u like more fantasy games - just a moving world and all what you do will influence it.
without the levelling part you have more time for the game, and besides exploring, missions, crafting and so on, the concentration is more on the "end game". so often i hear people in mmorpg´s that they would feel so much better to be lvl xxx right now, but we have to work for it to reach the goal.
i dont know if the current computer/programming technology can produce and run such a game, but i would have lots of ideas like many from us to let the current non creative mainstream behind us. be sure that current "copied gameplay" in almost all mmorpg´s wont survive forever. people want to have new ideas, different gameplay and not only nice new graphics with the same old BS.
UT2004 has a rpg mod for it...i found that pretty fun. I played it more than the real version of the game for a few months. PVP play on a Onslaught server, PVE play on an invasion server. I played on a good invasion server where you kill monsters and lvl up..each wave of monsters were harder and harder (was good fun). When you lvl up you can invest points into health, ammo, damage, weapon speed, or buy special skills and upgrades. The server keeps track of you stats and stuff so you can log out and back in at the same lvl. Its not MMO tho...
Anyways spizz that is what I'm saying, gameplay would be revolutionary. An FPS version of WoW would be pretty kool, don't ya think?
I'll take Warhammer Online for an example:
It's looking to be a great game (whenever it comes out, the cancellation was lifted) except that it's not going to have any new gameplay elements, and will grow stale in a matter of months. Shame, too.
No MMORPG's I've seen so far seem very skill-based unless they're war games. And for my war fix, I got Counterstrike. That's my point, any objections?
not sure how netcode in seamless MMOs work, but how about overlapping zones? ie have a server for each area on the world grid, but also an extra reach which covers the field of view. so assuming there are two square zones next to each other, a player is standing in zone 2, but is in zone 1's field of vision, in which case BOTH servers cover him. with an entire grid of course up to four servers will cover a player's location, but what the players see is what THEIR server is covering. hit detection would be covered from the SHOOTER's server. any lag causing stray bullets would be compensated by doing a rollback to where the player was aiming at the time.

Oh yea...I'm likin that. Great idea!
Anyways, lag is not an issue anymore because of optical connections (I've seen 4GBps for a COUNTERSTRIKE server!!!) And Gabs's Idea here is awesome. Anyways, what I'm saying is a fantasy-based (or sci-fi) MMOFPS is needed that isn't just war, war, WAR!!!
A company that seems to be ont he right track is Smiling Gator www.twilightwar.com with their new game. Ain't gonna be comin' out anytime soon though. Beta Q1 2006 I think?
Anyways, look for Gator's new game, and even if you're bored one day e-mail a game company with a few ideas, they just might produce em!!! (If you want cash or recognition for the ideas, have them sign a contract first )
Both Neocron and Face of Mankind from what I saw had horrible hit detection or just bad gun play, Project Entropia trys to do the same but fails. Games like Roma Victor are supposed to have a more intuitive combat style where you can control how you swing your sword and where, or atleast what I've read. For now it seems like a waiting game 'til they can really release a QUALITY game with these sorts of features.
My hope is that one day there will be a large MMOFPS that simulates war including deformable terrain and other properties of physics. I believe Half-Life 2 has raised the bar with the Havok Physics system used and other games will follow and incorporate the same and more, just can't wait to see whats ahead in another 10 years of gaming.
yes planetside and face of mankind are mmofps games, they implemented some nice ideas but are not the quality what would i demand. planetside most disadvantage is the lack of moving frontlines, you cant win or loose really in that game and its frustrating. you have not one huge world, instead you have some big maps where u fight in circles.
when we talking already about war simulated mmofps games, we dont have much games to choose at the moment.
talking about mmofps dont forget the game ww2online, which has a very nice concept. i like the idea that only one huge map exist, no loading zones at all. you have moving frontlines, yo can capture towns - those are game ideas i would love to see in other future mmopg´s. its still one of my favourite mmopg´s out there, cause i could not find any different game like this as a pure mmofps (unfortunately without true roleplaying, but i wished like i wrote in my last post to see fps games combined with more roleplay)
always wished for example an starwars mmofps like this style, imagine you have ground troops and supporting air - would be a nice simulation for fights on endor or hoth.
i know that some people dont like the graphic in ww2online, cause this company started an idea which is and was not mainstream. they had to programm very long sights ov view in this game, that u have great tank/air wars combined with ground forces. so the current pc technology has problems to combine huge long views with great graphics, thats the main problem i found out. ww2online is for sure one of the games which tried new ideas and i love such companies which not only look for money without trying new game concepts, we can only hope to see more games in the future with similar concepts but different units....must not be only ww2 (starwars, knights & magic,....) with different game style even the view of sight could be reduced, i heard the game dark & light has one huge world without loading zones...am i right ?
neocron was a nice idea to combine xp/skilled based mmorpg´s with fps shooter gameplay. i loved the concept, but something didnt hold me for long ....maybe i should give it another try, will see. the current problem i see is, that game companies still produce ideas which were used already some years ago. copied ideas to be successfull like different companies, money of course plays a huge role in this genre, but time should come that the risk for new ideas, new gameplay should start and not only companies focus on old game technologies which do good profits....its the market who decide this, if people still pay for massive games which have the same gameplay ideas like year before it will be hard to leave the circle of only seeing profit without investing more in new risky ideas.....
World war II online is probably the best mmorpgfps I have played. It is a lot better than PS, since it is a lot more balenced and realistic. It has also been around longer than PS, so the dev are more experienced in delivering the best experience. I suggest trying it out before it makes its retail release.

In Auto Assault, you do not just click(which gets REALLY boring), you use controls that you actually need to have skill in!

How could you guys miss that one?
I played it for over a year and it's a great game.
