Character development?

How do you improve your character, other then item/armor? There is no crafting skills, skills at all, and fighting is based on player performance, how do I get better? What is the point to leveling?

Levelling is about getting to a higher rank in an organisation and gaining influence and control over the aims and objectives of a faction.

The game itself is all about player skill there isn't a levelling treadmill.

So I don't get any better by leveling? what if I don't want a lead position, but be a production monkey? is there any advantage, because everyone else can make things as well as me. doesn't seem like there is alot of reason to level, unless you want to lead people.
