guys, dont get me wrong, this game is a fine product. It's very polished. But here are some problems:
1. Dialogs are nice, but they often feel like padding when you get a quest for one npc just to run to another to get to know where the quest objective is.
2.GC- you get hundrets of millions and you still stick to this archaic combat system? what makes bioware think they can make it even better? it is already at its maximum potential.
3.The feeling of been there seen that. i'm constantly think, oh this is just like .... and oh its the same command and oh its the same key.
4. UI - gets the job done, nothing more. definetly not sufficient in the long run.
This game has been hyped to no end. i was very excited myself but this has been eyeopening to me. Imho EA pushed the buttons here. i bet they said to bioware: "WoW formula makes $$. Make us a game based on that formula." Dialogs and maybe companions are the things redeeming swtor. but then again rift had its rifts....

The game doesnt worth it accept it and move along. The graphics and the gameplay reminds me of 2005 games.I thought i would find an mmo to play but seems like ill have to wait till blizzards new titan mmo.Seems like they are the only company to know how to do it right.Although they are very slow at producing and wow looks like crap right now.
So back to single players again.
Back in 2005 there have been much better games with much better graphics. Not to talk about the gameplay of the gemes in the 90s...

The millions i mention are directed at the budged of the game, not the player numbers.
The voice acting? Lots of that.
I only want to say a thing: Dofus is a french game and it had 11 million players worldwide.
The number of subscribers means nothing, for example, i don't like Call of Duty games, but there is a lot of Call of Duty fans. Enjoy the game you like, it can be WoW, SWTOR, TSW, Terra, GW2, it doesn't matter, and don't care about player numbers, if you like the game, surely will be other people that enjoy that game too and will be playing with you.
Intro movies, they are epic.
An honest review of SW:TOR 6/10 (Danny Wojcicki)
lol "oh me". I thought I had read that as just "where are the millions". It was either edited or too early for me to be posting!

My biggest dissapointment is the gameworld itself. It feels so incredibly dead. It's not even funny!
I mean for christ sake. Even old SWG, EQ2, WoW, LOTRO... they all have gameworlds that feel alive, with NPC's, monsters, critters walking, patrolling, hopping around.
In SWTOR everything feels totally dead. NPC's, monsters, critters... all just stand still like lifeless statues. Only coming to life when you agro them!
I mean.. seriously! WTF?? They can't tell me that Hero Engine can't handle scripted NPC pathing??!
Ok, I'll try this again.
The game feels like a lot has been spent on it. Unlike some games I've tried that feel junky.
In no way does spending millions of dollars mean that those millions of dollars will be spent in a way you want. They made it similiar to other popular games because they wanted players to feel familiar, not bumble around and relearn things that quite frankly, work well. For instance, I need to whisper to someone. Now that I know it's the /whisper or /tell I can do that. As opposed to trying to figure out how to send a private message. I think your issue is that you just want "new new new!!!. When the truth is that there is very little that is truly new.

True enough but the idea of an MMO is not the intro. When you are supposed to have game systems/mechanics to get to a goal. The business goal is maximum subscribers for maximum length of time.
So the intro movies are great.. but they are the start.. even the vids here and there are just not what keeps someone playing after they hit 50...
The VO work was expensive as well and some of it is great. Thing is after a while you start hitting the space bar (TOR version of show quest text now). When you have a limited amount of time to play... and you have that one guy in your group that insists on watching every single convo vid before making a choice... halfway through your flashpoint you have to bail for real life.
Anyway the voice over and videos are great and they were worth some expense. However, when you consider what the total budget of TOR was likely to be... there should be "more" in the way of long term captivating things to do.. that seem somewhat new so that they are interesting instead of "oh ya I've been here before" (as someone else mentioned).
Its fine I'll get my money out of my pre-order. If I was one of EA's major investors... I think I'd be having someones head on a platter.
I haven't yet passed on the quest dialogue. I think this is more for those not interested. I actually love the quest dialogue. So a "to eash his/her own" might apply to Antarious.
@Antarious: it's very possible that the core "thrust" of the game might not be to your liking. Sorry about that.

Down the shit tubes from the looks of it, game looks like a total rip off of world of warcraft just with a starwars skin, but besides this it might still be a fun game for some people, me? I liked leveling up in wow, but the endgame in wow was worthless and a waste of time due to no use at all for raid gear, I didn't see a point to raiding in it so I quit. To put it simply they used a 150 million dollar budget to pretty much make world of warcraft with a star wars skin and voice overs.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
Rofl, dont know what SWG you were playing but every single one of those planets was dead, oh hey look cities! oh nvm its empty, hey look a planet! oh nvm its 95% open emtpy land.
Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling"
Sig typo fixed thanks to an observant stragen001.
On how many sites did you copy/paste this comment? I'd link to the SWTOR beta post but that's still an agreement violation.
Bioware doesn't check here! So ofcourse I post it in the Beta feedback forums! /facepalm
I don´t think there are hundreds of millions involved. Do not forget Bioware was/is developing DA2, ME3, perhaps DA3 while making SWTOR.
True, I was just wondering how many sites you copied it to though?
Also, your feedback is wrong if you care. Any casual beta tester will see npc's wandering around in scripted patrol paths in a combat area. You'll also see friendly npc's engaged in combat with enemy npc's, etc.
I will agree that there isn't much scripted/random interaction in friendly areas though.
If people want a "lifeless" Star Wars game, go back and play SWG while you can. SWG has been so lifeless that they are pulling the plug. NPC's ever wander around there? No. Conversations as you passed? No. NPC's just standing there like statues? Yes.
Sorry if this is not Skyrim in space and more like all the other MMO's out there. Point is, the STORY is the thing in SWTOR and not the graphics or any number of fluff items the critics are mentioning.
As a beta tester I can say that SWTOR is not perfect. I can also say that neither have any of the other six to eight MMO's I have tested been either. I
Bottom line, is it a FUN MMO....you better believe it!
Let's party like it is 1863!
MARKETING, overseas and otherwise.
There's your answer.
LOL, please tell me what games had better graphics in 2005?
have to say i,m kind of confused has to where all the money went in making this game..dont get me wrong i played for a couple of hours and could'nt really fault the game apart from the combat and gfx..i,m sure with aqll the money they spent they could have made it look a hell of a lot better than it does..although gfx dont make a game..given the amount of money spent i expected more.
also the combat seems very how can i put this..static...but i will persevere and see how it turns out..i do like the stoyline though.
I also agrea, but since it is a starwars ip i thi nk it will at least have 500000 paying subribts after first year,if it was unknown ip maybe 100k.
I had to laugh when he said Blizzard does it right when they are releasing Pandaland . This guys obviously a Blizzard nut and I tell you something had Blizzard released this game with the same type of graphics and game play he would be on here saying how brilliant it was . The only reason he and a lot of other people on here are trolling it is because they fear the effect it will have on WoW .
The games very polished and its a lot of fun . The graphics are a little cartoony in style but since when did that stop most of you playing an mmo . Had they been like Skyrims etc the game wouldn't have played on the average PC .
Gameplay wise most of you are basing these thoughts on starter areas . You've probably played the equivelent of the nelf starter zone in WoW and based everything you think on that rather than seeing what happens later in the game .
Seems like the scared little WoW trolls are out in force tonight but what else can you expect from grown men that play with pandas .
