I have played L2 a few times, and enjoyed it up to a certain point.
Its due to the lack of story driven content ( That i have not found and admitantly not looked for)
My question is to a vet of L2. Is there story driven content in the game if I go look for it to keep me imersed and interested or do you just have to join the grinding groups to lvl up?
As ignorant as all this may sound I promise you its not suppose to be.

It really depends what you consider story driven, everything in L2 is pretty story driven i.e, every area has a rich story as to why its there. There are lots of references in game and speaking to NPC's in game does give you a bit of information about areas and what is going on, this is also true for the quests they introduced over the years. Which are very specific to the areas, you can also read the lore on the website and you can identify pretty much everything in game that is in the lore.
To give you an example tower of insolence is pretty rich lore wise its a tower Baium built to defy the gods, when the gods found out they destroyed part of it and imprisioned baium on the top of the tower, as you go up you notice angels are near the top they are the guardians of baium to ensure he stays imprisioned, if you summon baium the angels will attack him and you as well.
Now in the traditional sense there are no hand held "go there and see this that is happening" ( not saying this is a bad thing), most stuff has already happened, there are not the sort of events that show you being part of something that has happened, you really need to understand the lore and identify what happened or is happening.
It's rich in lore. I always liked to find pieces of it to try to complete the big "puzzle" that is the L2 world.
There is a background story in L2 which usually progresses through the various updates, if I remember right. The point is that it's the players that shape the history of each server. Enroll to a newbie clan, there will be lots of them asking for people, make friends, if you are lucky the clan will join a good alliance and play important role, or you will change clan as you progress to a bigger and better one... it is entirely up to your choices.
It may sound difficult or complicated, especially if you are used to the WoW-clone themeparks that are arround, but it is not.
Definatly dont like the wow clones, and am no stranger to making my own fun, But along with that fun its nice to know your in a world that has a story to it.
Thanks all for information
That WAS lot of information on the world, in the old lineage2.com site. There was the full history, from the Genesis to the last chapter (update). I went to check today the new site. Sadly they have removed the "history" section, or I was unable to find it.

Starts at legend all the way to interlude
Thanks for the link for the old site of Lineage II, i was looking for some information of the Library, and i was disappointed that it dissapeared in the new site.
Great! Thanks so much for the link.
