i've been in the same guild since jan. 2006 and have since inherited leadership over the past few months. it's really a shadow of its former self and the alliance, though semi-active is quite distant from the mother guild. the private forums have all but dried up.
there are really only 10 or so active members in the guild, maybe 3 dozen throughout the alliance, i've known and played with them for years. i'm positive we'll end up in the same 'guild' but highly doubt the name will continue.
i'm sure a lot of guilds are or have been suffering from this as development of GW2 drags on and on, but will you be patient enough to stick it out with your current guildmates until the release?

My old guild already broke up and moved past mmo's a little bit ago. Everyone just lost interest in them, but hopefully we'll reform a bit in gw2. Makes it easy enough to do so.
Nope. My old guild is still runing in WoW pretty strong. A few have gone to games like Rift and soon TOR only to come back with stories and they all have one common thing. They are told with the mindset of a WoW player through and through. Not to say Rift, SC2, Aion, etc... were games that one could argue sucked balls because I tried them as well and didn't like them. But a majority of the people had stories that spoke more to their mentality than game flaws.
I feel that this will not change when they try GW2 out and I really would rather not be there when they nerd rage about game features. I have more than kept them up to date on the game through the guild website and the guild is ran by my real life best friend and his wife. But the majority of their people are not the type I'd care to follow from game to game and it has become clear just by trying to discuss GW2 as wel as my gripes about WoW and why they haven't been able to sway me to come back for even a month. My best friends and my wife are all that I really care to keep up with and a couple of the members and they wil be with me in GW2. GW2 is going to take some getting used to and I don't feel most in my old guild will be up to that task. It isn't gonna be a WoW clone so they won't like it.

My GW guild is made up of RL friends who got me into GW in the first place, and we will all be moving to GW2 with great excitement.
Exactly the same, but in my case, I lured them to the game
And with multiple guilds... ohhh will be even better!
My guild had everyone go off on their separate ways, the only ones that stayed in are the ones that didn't play anymore. I do my best to keep tabs on them so I can get a hold of them when GW2 comes out, because I think that most of them would enjoy joining up into the same old guild again. It will be tough, as it's rare to see any of them online and our forums are mostly dead.
But I'll try! I enjoy playing with the same people, but if it doesn't work out I also enjoy meeting new ones.

Yup, but the guild I belong to is made up of a handful of people that I have been gaming with for a number of years now. I guess we would be considered more of a static group than a guild.
Heck yes I will.

No, I'll need a new one, since I haven't been in a GW1 guild for a while.
Interesting this should come up today. Im actually going to be installing gw1 back on my computer today. (20 sin and 20 war) although ill admit i still have alot to learn about the game. I will be looking for a cool laid back guild of people that may be going into gw2.(im def getting it.) a decently active vent is a must for me though. im constantly in vent so. if anyone can give me and my wife a new home would greatly be appreciated.
Well My guild is recruiting. We don't have a guild in GW1 but we have guilds in FFXIV and SWTOR. You're welcome to check us out. http://hyakkiyako.enjin.com

Pretty much this, my husband and I led the guild but couldn't takes WoW's BS anymore and quit... we get asked pretty much every week when we are coming back because they miss the guild.. We will most likely reform in GW2 with only a slight loss from those die hard SW ppl.. I think we have 2 and only 1 likes the game lol.
What I don't get however is the being able to be in multiple guilds... I just do not understand why this is needed.
@the GW1 ppl... I have really thought about playing it but cant get around the terrible controls... can you redo them to be more like other MMOs?
There are a lot of keybinding options. I have tweked things so that my GW setup is pretty much the same as what I use in other games. Disabling click-to-move was one of the first things I did.
perhaps ill give it another go, I wouldnt mind getting some stuff done in GW1 before GW2 is out.
I am griting my teeth through some of the horrible controls. There are enough things there that I can look past but my 2 biggest problems regarding controls are
1) When playing a melee, trying to move manually breaks the commands you were doing. This cancels attacks and is a PITA when trying to chase down mobs. if you let it auto run the camera is all over the place. Took some getting use to.
2) The tab targetting is horrid. They didn't design the targeting system to stay in a proximety near your character and insteasd it will tab to any mob on, and off the mini map. Makes for a targeting nightmare when it bleeds into my first point with camera and movement.
Those 2 things I don't think there is any way around. If you have played MMO's with clean and responsive movement and controls like WoW's, it is tough to swallow the games clunky controls. But there are a lot of redeeming qualities about the game so I am in no way trying to convince you not to play. Just addressing your concern. I wants my HOM points so I can play through these faults.

Well tab targetting was always terrible in WoW =P and I don't think any game has gotten it just right.
True but GW has really taken it to a new level of annoyance. It's not JUST that it targets mobs that aren't even in your vicinity, but throw in the fact that there are invisible walls everywhere and no jump to get to them and it is really annoying when it targets a mob that is unreachable. Hell it sometimes targets mobs that are way in the distance while skipping groups that are actually close to your group. I think it would be a lot less annoying if the camera wasn't so bad and the movement wasn't aweful. Still fun though but movement is definately the games low point.
If you get into the game and need help I am in a guild that really likes helping new players. I aint much help since I am fairly new myself, but our leaders are always asking if people need help.

Is there servers or anything, and how would I get in touch with you in game... seriously thinking about this.
Hope to see ya, upgraded the really old trial i had lol
I allways join a new guild in every game i play
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
My guild is very small, just my sons and I, and one of my old med school friends who plays with us and got me into GW1 in the first place. We'll certainly carry on the guild into GW2 and might expand it.
About the GW1 interface and controls - I agree the tab targeting can be tricky. I found it helpful to move the compass and skill, damage, and targeting displays into a cluster around the skillbar. It makes it easier to watch the red dots light up as you tab through the mobs. Most battles these days I hardly need to look up (which is a shame, in a way). I also find it helpful, when playing with other people, to have one of the human casters in my party call targets - which is easier from their position further back as they have a better tactical view of the battle.
Tab-targeting and auto-targeting through the activation of an ability all chhose their targets based on your character's field of view, not what you can see on the screen, but the diretion your character is facing. I am always mouse-turning my screen/character to keep it facing the mobs in the immeidate area.
