I'm shocked @ this thread. I doubt any of you were actually SWG fans, or true StarWars fans.
As a whole the game is completely fail to appease "Old School" players. My ENTIRE table top, and online, StarWars group has dropped SWTOR completely from our list. It's not even worth being called "Star Wars" unless you like 3D flip-books. Sorry

They are lying to you.
I doubt it.. i am not in contact with many of the players i used to know in SWG, but what few i am in touch with, have shown little if any interest in SW;TOR, though i must admit, quite a few of them have moved on from all MMO's entirely. SW;TOR, despite its name, is not really a Starwars game, its Kotor online at best, and at worst.. well.. we'll see...

I am going to venture to say curiosity will get the better of the SWG fanatics that I know. I'm not saying they will stay in SWTOR beyond the free 30 days, but I'm guessing they will come at some time. Kinda like the EQ crowd went over and hung out in WoW for a bit, some stayed and some left...
You are correct though, I'm not seeing much interest among pre-CU SWG players in SWTOR at the moment.
I will say that among the "old-school" pre-CU players I know (me included), we have little hope for a genuine game like pre-CU to ever reappear in a form that isn't just an emulator including all the lame bugs and rediculousness that resulted in SOE feeling they needed CURB.

Meh, SWTOR felt closer to old-skool Star Wars than those new fangled episode 1-3 movies to me, but to each his own!
Well, I'm probably in the old-timer category. My first love was EQ1, played it for 6 years. My second love was Vanguard, which felt a lot like EQ1 and I played that for over 3 years. Nothing else has come close to those two games in my opinion and I started to develop high expectations for SWTOR.
I tried the beta this past weekend and was sorely disappointed. The game felt cookie-cutter, linear and heavily solo based.... basically all the things I dislike about the vast majority of MMOs.
After reading some of the posts in this thread, I still might try to play the game as it seems that perhaps the gameplay gets more interesting after level 10.

I think you will find the game was made for the general cassual gamer not the hard core Star wars fanatic. I didnt like the films and entered the Beta with an open mind, I found the game to be entertaining and fun, and at the end of the day thats what i'm looking for. You stick with your 6x6 table, action figures, rule book and Geeky friends, I'll stick with my mouse and monitor. Thank you.
After several attempts to get back into SWG after the CU + NGE and my departure, even about 4 weeks ago I was still rattled by the closureof SWG for STWOR, never the less, my strike from playing any future SW MMO till they fixed SWG, lasted um not lol I played Beta last weekend and it is so much fun I can see now that one big element of the SWG experience, was the star wars aspect alone. I really love in SWTOR, that they are still using that Star wars font for putting messeges up in the middle of the screen, this makes me feel like im in a classic Star Wars setting just by the use of that crazzy square like Star wars text font.
Did anyone else notice that ?
I feel this game is exactly what I want and it seems im growing fond of the Theme park aspect, as this time round with SWTOR I thouroughly enjoyed it, it actually felt homey, because ive grown acustom to the theme park aspect. I dont care if i cant fly round the whole of tythos, I got all the main components of the palnet in one small space, so it means I have less to travel too to get to places which is nice.
My concern while playing it though was, how quickly can i get through 17 planets, or x amount of planets ive to go to as my chosen class, race, faction. I was wondering if perhaps, that we go back to old planets but do a new theme park area ? for example maybe going to corruscant map 1 first, then about level 30 or so, come back to a different layout of corruscaant ?
I loved Rift, it was theme park, but UI got to level 50 in two months and then that was that, I did not think it was worth staying as id played most every area by the time I was 50. Rift has set this mmo up nicely. Rift was fun but it ended, lets hope SWTOR doesnt end early too. SWG kept me going for a whole year and a half at least before CU and NGE happened. Im wondering what SWTOR can do to allow us to play for long periods. Quite frankly paying £10 a month even for rifts mega patches was too little.
I so much want to be hooked on this game for a long time, lets see what happens over the next two months
SWTOR really catches the SW Universe feeling well. Some elements like having your own spaceship that actually flies and can be used to do things are very immersive.

I'm shocked that anyone could think this WASN'T Star Wars. It's about as close to Star Wars as any Star Wars game I've ever played. And while I enjoyed SWG pre-nge, it was a game decidedly lacking in fundemental Star Wars understanding. I mean, Coronet on Corellia? Really? A few blocks of buildings? Corellia in SWTOR actually FEELS like a Star Wars city. The huge shipyards were quite jaw dropping when I went there yesterday.
Now I have many problems with SWTOR, but the Star Warsi-ness of it isn't one of them. In fact, it is the true feeling of Star Wars that this game provides that keeps me on the fence, rather than dismissing it for its tired game play.
SWTOR is Starwars fed by a spoon, for sure. The immersion is superficial though. It lacks the same level of immersion that SWG had. SWTOR makes you feel like you are in a movie, SWG made you feel like you were part of a universe.

Maybe you felt that way in SWG, but I always felt like I was in the game. A big part of this, was the fact that even though the game had many iconic areas, very few of them actually had any purpose or content to immerse yourself with. SWG made you feel like you had to fight game breaking bugs in order to force yourself to be immersed.
SWTOR on the other hand, I was almost immediately immersed.
A bounty hunter that have no bounty to hunt, damn who can't even hunt anything, how even remotely interesting this can be i wonder? And how old timer are you? i seam in the layer of old where this game is not right at all.
As a classic star wars geek I wasn't about to fly to Balmorra for my next quest... I'm freakin going to Hoth and Tatooine regardless of level!
Reminds me...when my Sage was around level 15 I got tired of questing and took a trip to Tatooine. On my way to the cantina I got attacked by a group of killer rats that got my companion and finally backed-off me when I went inside with just a sliver of health left

While certainly not my perfect MMO.
This SWG PreCU 31 profesion old timers likes this SWTOR and thinks it is pretty fun.
agreed
