The forums seem to be flooded with negative expressions after this weekend’s beta.
Its cool to see that so many have different views on this game. Cool to see people like different stuff. This should bring tears to the eyes of the developers, now you know there probably is a market for any sick idea of a MMO you have in mind, buckle up your seat belt and invent something new to this MMO community. Grow some balls, make a horror mmo? make a sandbox? please just get out of your chairs and grow some balls, make the game you have been thinking of for years, instead of just doing what you boss order you to do! Who knows? maybe you’ll be the new star.
Right back to SW:TOR..
I had high expectation for the game, and they were met. I think this is because I don’t ask for too much maybe? I sound like everyone who has something negative to say is asking a whole lot more than any mmo can deliver atm. Basically most mmo clank to something new and invest most time to this. For SW:TOR it’s the voice monologs. Which are so good that Skyrim look like a trash storyline.
The classes have some new feats to them, yet they didn’t invent the something entirely new here. But I like the sniper, I like the cover idea. The sound of my Rifle when I do snipe just don’t get old. swiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig bang!
The world seem really good. The story as told is beyond awesome. To narrow down why I preordered this game: It will keep me entertained for atleast a few months, maybe more. I don’t know because I still don’t know the endgame. So what I figured is, this game cost the same as Skyrim, the story is atleast ten times better and ten times longer, you can play 16 different story lines.. seriously, 50 bucks, 15 bucks a month.. I cannot find any entertainment anywhere for that price.

And you can play with or kill other people online too! Can't do that in skyrim right? I have no idea as my 12 year old son doesn't let me play it. Not that I care though, not much into single player games anymore.
Remember that the people who are always negative are alot more vocal then the people who are positive.
You can check stats on polls about numerous mmo's and games.
Its good to have an opinion, but what we mostly see is a person who has never played something and only looked at youtube clips making a bad revieuw on a game/mmo
Calling it facts and the one and only good revieuw :P
What ive learned the hard way is that you need to dig into it yourself and play something with an open mind.
I jumped on the hype boat with Warhammer / AIon / Rift / ETC / ETC and i felt i made a huge mistake to spend time in those mmo's.
I felt robbed of money and time.
This is something people need to discover themselves when you are looking forward to a particular mmo/game.
None can decide that for you, i bet people are saying WTF dude RIFT IS FRICKIGN AWESOME.
And they are right as they are liking that mmo alot more then i ever did, its their taste and we should respect that.
Its easy to be negative about something but its alot harder to convince people of your taste and your facts as we are all totaly diffrent.
So there are actually decent people on these forums? Thanks for showing that, Mothanos.
You're right, been saying this in alot of topics, remember to say IMO, becuase all you posted here are not facts but your opinion. In most cases noone has the same opinions, they often agree on some terms.
I was very entertained by my weekend with TOR. The story was very interesting and I was able to be true to how I wanted my character to grow. I played a smuggler on the Republic side who is pretty much out for only her own interests. I did the quests I felt she would do and ignored the ones she wouldn't. I aquired both light side and dark side points because she isn't all that nice a person.
It wasn't perfect, there were bugs. Quite often I would not be able to loot or gather crafting materials. A quick use of the rest function would fix this but it was annoying. There were several resource nodes that were shown on the map as active but not were not harvestable. These where the same nodes on the same maps for the whole weekend. Sometimes I would get on to a map and mobs would pop late causing me to get into combats I could have avoided if it had loaded as it should. Only once did I have a problem with a cut scene dialog choice.
I would have prefered a more robust character creation system but the one in place was servicable. I would have liked to have some control over what my companions looked like but I can live with what I was given.
It would be nice be able to customise the interior of my ship. Hopefully this will be added at a later date.
I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the space combat tunnel shooter.
Overall, it was a very fun game and my pre-order is still in place.
I enjoyed this beta weekend, figured out which class I'll roll come release and can safely recommend this game to friends!
The game itself its not revolutionary/innovative but hell.... its awesome, its like playing a SP game with MP options, my best moment was when you are inside your own ship then i felt a sensation of awesomeness, this game is by far worth buying and monthly paying.
By the way the servers are down by scheduled maintenance, arent they suposed to be shut down?.
You will get ton of way to customize your companion trought the game, from discoveries, missions they do them selves, quests etc ..
agree, i hope "housing" would be implanted too.
Personally, I had low expectations, and were met. Meaning that I wasn't expecting much, so I wasn't disappointed. I can't say I was excited either though. Let me highligh tthree points I liked a lot and three I disliked:
What I liked:
The story and the world that seem to fit the story
The environment as a whole, the buildings, the vistas etc.
The group objectives and generally how the group missings and dungeons were working
What I disliked:
Low quality texture armor on my avatars (major dislike), high contrast between that and the envornment surrounding them. It's even worse than LOTRO.
Game UI was not adaptive when making new characters and was losing preferences after (occassional) crashes.
Well, my list of likes of dislikes couldn't be big, considering it was only a weekend gaming after all. The group contribution to dialog was an interesting innovation, but very little beyond that seem to move the MMO genre forward.
Housing is already implemented in the form of your personal space ship. You get one in your late teens.
I've been playing MMORPG's for a while now. I have tried them all and to be honest I really thought I was at the end of my MMORPG Career. I had lost that...drive to log in, it just wasn't fun anymore for me. To much the same ol same ol and it began to feel like a waste of time. Then I played in the Starwars beta and I have to say....I absolutely loved it. I played for hours, lost track of time and was chomping at the bit the next afternoon when I woke up (because I played into the wee hours of the morning.) to get back to it so I could see my story and character develope. I personally don't understand the awful reviews and opinions. I never once had a crash, hardly any lag...and considering that ever single server was full and I had to wait in Q for 20 min, I consider that a feat in itself. I had some very small issues with the tab targeting not working, got stuck once...but that was my own fault and had one flashpoint glitch on me where I lost my team members to an elevator that didn't work for me...but in saying that, those are all things I have experianced in even the most polished of games on occasions. I can remember falling through the ground to that deadly abyss in wow on numerous occasions, getting thrown out of instance through the wall by a boss....things I know we have all experianced. Games aren't perfect and I can accept that, expecially when they get my attention like Starwars did. A game I plan on buying and losing myself in for months to come and I fully expect to enjoy ever minute of it.
