Low level Bounty Hunter was done right.

This is from a lvl 16 perspective.  I finished the first sith world and started the first great hunt bounty.

After playing a Jedi Knight to 15, I felt like I was playing a melee class in a WoW.  Force leap animation was very cool, but the game play for me was nothing special, a light saber just felt like a sword, and the story line was a bit cliche.  Now it may get better at higher levels, but that was my limited impression.

So I started a bounty hunter on a whim and from the moment I fired my first wrist missile, I really felt some excitement.  Sure you could say it is just a ranged class to start, but the missiles felt like missiles not arrows.  The explsion and knock down effects are fun.  The bounty hunter story line is great and you actually get a chance to role play and make choices.  I really had the allusion that I could be who I wanted to be in the game (even though the result is almost the same). Would be great if some of those choices came back later in the game such as choosing one faction over another.  Take mercy or be ruthless.  Your choice.  The quests were varied and interesting -- unlike the Jedi which was always help this person or defeat this bad guy.

Now this may get old at higher levels, but I have never been so impressed with the total packagae of gameplay, story line, and choice as in the BH class in the Old Republic.  My only real complaint is that Mako, my companion, almost always liked light side choices -- I'm a bounty hunter for Pete's sake.

I also played a bunch of other classes to level 8-10.  I was surprised to find that Republic Trooper, a class I thought would be very boring, was fun and had a good story line.

So what was your favorite class and why?

I only played my BH to lvl 12 so again my perspective is very limited but I do agree that BH was the most fun story I played.  (I played every class to at least lvl 10)  I also found that the Mako companion fit well with my play style of the BH, which was always about making credits when the choice permitted.  My BH at launch will probably mirror what I did in beta, which was to make him more about credits and less about any sense of 'morality' if you will.  Also, I hear that BH gets a jawa companion at higher levels which for me is really cool.  Now if I can't romance said Jawa I may be upset. lol

I liked the smuggler best of the classes I tried.  I wanted to feel like I was outside of the republic and just working for a living.  The story gave me that feeling for the most part.  I was pretty much given a choice in each instance where it just felt right for the character I wanted to play.  I only got to level 15 but was able to get my ship.

    1. Smuggler

    2. Consular

    3. Inquisitor

    4. Agent

    5. Bounty Hunter

    6. Trooper

    7. Warrior (quit at 3)

    8. Knight (did not play)

As to why the Smuggler was my favorite, well - that gets a little complicated.

    • The voice fit a Baby-faced Body 4 Cyborg.

    • The most "EVIL" story.

    • Baby-faced Body 4 doing an "EVIL" story was funny.

    • The whole Universe can burn, I just want my ship back...was just too epic.

My only issue with the Smuggler was how OP it felt compared to the other classes I played.

I miss the MMORPG genre. Will a developer ever make one again?

I have to agree with OP here, I played a few different classes, Republicans I couldnt get past lvl 4 before swapping to another class, but the Siths have great story lines you just can't put down, on the last day of Beta I started a bounty hunter, I wish I picked it first, like you said a great RP class to pick up with and I really enjoyed the class from the off.

At first I was all about the Bounty Hunter, but after playing on the Sith Marauder I am definitely in a bit of a bind...but yeah, starting to edge firmly towards the Sith now.

The Bounty Hunter is a total badass. Fun diverse play style...conceptually he's an absolute boss...great looking story etc etc...

There's just something so awesome about the Marauder. He looks incredibly menacing, especially with dual Lightsabers. Kickass armor sets, really slick fluid play-style. The resource system is also pretty fun. it's very satisfying watching your rage bar shoot up, and then unloading it all onto an enemy. Loving the attack animations as well. Combat feels faster paced and you can actually feel the force behind some of your attacks as you are pounding away with your epic techno-blades.

I played Bounty hunter, Warrior and Inquisitor, i found they all played very different.

Since i love warriors in WoW, the warrior was fun to play, but somehow it had the least immersing story to me(but still fun)

The Sorcerer played like a typical pet class, and at level 15 was still quite fun as a mellee healer. It had the most immersive story for me.

The bounty hunter i got only to 12 and it was really fun to play, felt much different from the other two Sith classes or any other typical fantasy MMO i played.  The story was fun too. The gameplay really picked up at 7 when Mako joined me.

Interesting responses.  I am glad people liked other classes.  I liked smuggler too, but the reason I liked bounty hunter is because the story felt the most morally ambiguous -- could play really evil or be mercifull.  Maybe I didnt play smuggler enough.

I tried all the main class types up to levels 5 - 10. My favorite was the Bounty hunter, for story/voice acting/abilities/appearance.

I also liked the Trooper. And even though my guild will be moving to TOR and establishing itself on the Republic side, my main will be the Bounty Hunter.

I simply had "FUN" playing it. What a concept, "fun".

Bounty Hunter was easly the star of the show out of the classes i tried out over the weekend. The story, voice acting and combat along with the early armor look of the character were all spot on. The starter companion was perfect tho saying that I did like the Sith Warrior companion as well.

Sith Warrior felt very under-powered combat wise but i hear thats is being looked at, the story was great but the voice actor (male) sucked due to a total lack of menace and just felt wrong to me and its a pity the BH guy didn't do both classes :(

Trooper while fun combat wise had a rather boring and dull class story, the look of the character from the early amor upgrades I got from quest rewards looked like utter crap and seemed just a rehash of what a Smuggler should be wearing at level 10. The starter companion sucked ass which didn't help.

  • The Sith Warrior has been my favourite. You just feel so powerful when you leap through the air, stabbing the poor sod you've singled out with your lightsaber as you than, then disposing of the rest in a flurry of powerful swings.

I have been beta testing SWTOR for three months and BH is my main class. This beta weekend i rolled BH yet again to try powertech advanced class. It will be my main on release too as it always have been my first choice since the day they announced it.

The Bounty Hunter was easily my favorite class and storyline in both beta weekends I tested.  Mako is also my favorite companion of the classes I played.  Sadly, Bounty Hunter is off the table for me since my guild is going Republic at launch.  :(

I wanted to kill my Mako.  I wanted to kill everybody else's Mako...

...just to get her to shut up.

While I agree on the whole that the Bounty Hunter was awesome fun to play, for story I really enjoyed the Smuggler. I did only go through the first 10 levels and then the Esseles flashpoint so not sure how it goes after, but the style just made me smile. Bounty Hunter combat style is just amazing though, I can definitely see me playing one of those. Another story which looked great was the Imperial Agent, but I couldn't play that one for long as the combat was almost identical to Smuggler.

That's actually a problem of mine. Dark and Light side character classes are pretty much identical with only graphical changes to show the difference. Smuggler and Agent have exactly the same abilities, more or less, same with the Jedi Sage and Sith Inquisitor. I don't see a lot of replayablility there, unless you REALLY like the story.

Before the beta I was hellbent on either a Sith Inquisitor or an Imperial Agent. During the beta I tried Sith Inqusitor, Imperial Agent, Trooper, Jedi Consular and Bounty Hunter. I totally agree with you. The BH was easily the star of the show to me as well. Let me add that I only took them to about lvl 10 so it's not a proper representation of the classes as a whole. I do believe that playing even just the first 10 levels will give you a feel of the class if nothing else.

The Empire side was also a hell of a lot more interesting to play than the Republic. It was almost like you could say if you like to hold old peoples hands, feed their cats and water their potted plants; roll Republic. If you like to shoot people in the face after you've stolen their credits; roll Empire. The Empire campaign and choices just felt more involving to me. Maybe it's because I'm a psycopath I don't know, but that's how it felt.

My main will definitely be a bounty hunter. Maybe even a Trooper depending on server choices. I don't want to join an overcrowded faction.

Made that italic, removed a double space and added quotes for extra dramatic effect.

Not that I have a similar experience but those few sentences read like a best seller.

Mako loves making money. What she does not love is unnecessary brutality.

I played pirmarily Trooper for this beta weekend and got a very small taste of my launch class which will be the BH.

    Loved them both.

The story choices for both made me stop to consider how I would repsond from a role playing perspective and I really enjoy that change.

I would dearly love to see some more branching paths though. Primary storyline is awesome, but would love to see a set of circumstances where two different players of the same class could experience stories with differing paths.

That may be because I am itching to try the healing and tanking roles for both the BH and the Trooper though.
