I wish you wouldnt have put companions and crew skills togeather. While I thought the crew skills where an interesting idea I HATE forcing companions on people. It turns every class into a pet class like it or not and I do not like pet classes. That was the only thing I put terrible on. The rest where good and up. I dont like themeparks but as a themepark they did things well.
Technically you dont have to have a companion. You can make the game more challenging and leave it unsummoned and just use them for harvesting / crew skills.
Great idea but try to break up things an add more poll categories ?
For example:
Graphics world
Graphics Characters
Story -
World design
Main Storyline
Solo Quests
Group quests
Flashpoints
Battlegrounds ( pvp )
For example you grouped together characters and graphics. I would give them very different values.
I could have easily created a thread with 8 polls or more, but there are some reasons I didn't.
Posting space for one. I didn't want to try and grab 8 posts as there is a delay from one post to the next. I was lucky we didn't get posters breaking up my polls, so they are at least all sequential this time. The mods may have been able to help with that, but see point 3 on that.
Voters degrade over each poll, so the first post always has the most voters and the last post always has the least amount of voters. The more polls the less chance we have to...."retain" an ample amount of voters.
This was only a trial run, first to see how it was received, and so far so good. Second to see how the mods received it. I didn't want to push my luck on the first community review, but perhaps we can expand a bit more in a few months with the community re-review.
Lastly, I know I grouped some stuff together, and I didn't even get to touch on items like Sound, or split PvP apart from PvE which should be segregated. Character creation should have been coupled with something like Customization or visual progression too, for those that had extensive playtime.
Sure it could have had more choices and been portrayed differently, but with how it was done, it also kind of allows you to have one feature balance the other out.
Great Group content, but poor PvP content in your opinion? Well give them two separate scores and average them.. select that number. In a way it tempers a little bit of the excitement for one feature with the dislike of another.
Now that the final beta weekend is through.. I don't believe we'll have a weekend test next weekend -- seeing as how the following weekend will be early access... so lets see how many more votes we can get here...

The launcher states that if you're a weekend tester, your part in testing the game is done. There is still testing happening with ongoing testers though.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

It is kind of exciting isn't it? They've gone 'Gold'! :-)

So at 500+ voters (varying between polls) we have a mmorpg of which the majority (the three most voted for options) of voters say that it can has;
- Great to perfect story; most voted this 9
- Good to excellent combat / gameplay; most voted this 8
- Okay to great graphics / character design; most voted this 7
- Good to excellent group content / world content; most voted this 9
- Great to perfect companions / crew skills; most voted this 9
.... That's pretty impressive, actually.
What was wrong again with this game?
Ah yes, it should have been a sandboxy single player rpg with less skills, no leveling, less personal story, better graphics, less Jedi, more factions, less voice overs, in another timeframe, with smugglers that can smuggle and spaceships that can spaceship.

Amirite?
Spaceships that can spaceship.. preposterous.
Results are rather encouraging though for a community snapshot.
What I'm really kind of surprised about is how many negative responses we have that are also all over the board.
I imagined that those that really didn't like the game would have voted between the 1-3 "terrible" selection as it pooled those scores... I completely expected to see more "terrible" than "bad" because of that... but it didn't go that way at all.

If you added up all the individuals who might have voted in the 1-3 range, they would not be very numerous. They would, however, be very vocal. This is one of the few polls where enough people voted to get a good idea of what people actually think. Far closer to a 'general consensus' than trying to piece it together from what people say.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Every time I see that title, I wonder if we're going to be rating our (mmorpg.com) community. "Oh yeah, it's that thread again".
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.

Wouldn't that be an idea for a thread! Perhaps someone should make one of those... to get the average opinion on what the MMORPG.com community is like.

I actually didn't think it would turn out that way with the way so many people have complained. Sure I noticed a number of the same people, but as testing went full force we saw more people coming here to complain.... I guess I just never expected to get feedback from a "silent majority" ... those who turned out to actually like the game.

There are 5 people who whine alot and then create new accounts to complain some more . they also create multiple hate threads at once. So its not as many complainers as there are actualy hate threads.
Well, thing is, them hate threads are a doubled edged sword: firstly people are always more likely to write about things which they don't like resulting in this "over-representation of negative opinion" phenomenon, BUT they wouldn't be so very prevalent if us fans wouldn't be mainly replying to the overly negative threads, rather than the threads posting new information, neutral observations, etc.
Hate threads will always be on top of the boards and will always get the most exposure; the more blatantly negative the higher the potential "bait" level.

Negative posters are typically looking for attention because of a lack of attention in real life. Negative posters post very frequently. They are projecting their feelings and issues onto a video game. They simple do not realize how self destructive their behavior is. People like people who are positive and confident.

Lol, yeah I have always been a motivator. Still, the results of this thread have been interesting. There definitely areas that Bioware needs to work on that could improve the game.

I think part of it is that conversations about the positive thoughts on SWToR (or anything for that matter) are pretty short. It's just part of the nature of those conversations.
Person A: I like pretzels. Person B: Me too. Chocolate covered pretzels are really cool. Person A: Good one! ... From here, the conversation might repeat, but not infinitely. When people tend to agree about things, there's not much point in continuing the conversation.
Negative conversations on the other hand will have a much longer lifespan.
Person A: I hate pretzels. Person B: What? I love pretzels! Person C: Why are you posting about hating pretzels in a pretzel forum? Person Troll! Person A: I just think pretzels have some obvious faults, which I do not like. Person B: Pretzels are crispy and salty at the same time! If that's not enough, they can be covered in chocolate...what's not to like? Person E: Some people like pretzels, some people don't. What's the big deal? ... From here the conversation spirals into several sub-conversations, many of them conversations about the conversation itself. If it goes far enough, many bits of the conversation will repeat because it's just too much to read and keep up with.

Wahoo! Thanks Mike B!
Thank you
Thanks for restoring the poll!
There, fixed.

The companons are so much more then a regular pet. I dont understand the comparison other then they help u fight
They actually have personalities, its so cool to have them with u talking as u walk u never know what they are gonna say to u.
Its one of the biggest reasons i love bioware games. Companions are so much more then a simple pet.
Thanks Mike! OP updated.
