people keep forget wow and swtor build on same game engine going to play alike because its same engine but from playing beta i like it way better then i ever did wow
ok the voiced over main story line, yes i cant think of an mmo which does it and this does it well
companion system, really? a selection of pets?
crew skills? a disguised crafting interface
^^^^ This!
I was just thinking...wth do you people want to call a game innovative? Come up with some creative, new ideas that would work and I might just buy that the above listed ideas are not "innovative" enough to enjoy.
I think they take the best out of current MMO market and improved on it in many areas. Yes, it is themepark, which alot of us actually like..go figure. I also enjoy sandbox as well, who knew you can have fun in both types (I did). Some of you people need to relax (try going outside, the gym, etc). It is usually those who have nothing better to do than peruse the forums all day and post on EVERYTHING that doesn't match up with their "pro" (ie, I have no life outside of the internets) mentality.
Yes, space combat sucks. It is simple, do not take those missions. Yes, character creation is lackluster and there is much, much better on the market. However, they got the things that count right. Fun, decent pace, casual-friendly, yet with enough of a challenge that it will keep the harder core into for a bit (which I really could care less about because they always rush to the end anyway, thus proving what we already know, they have no RL) and have added these new things.
Its difficult to call, just like the modern warfare 3 metacritic scores, mw3 is a great game but some people jsut get tired of the same or similar.
And just like MW3, regardless of the reviews saying its the same old same old. It's going to sell like crazy.
This is going to be the biggest MMO launch ever. (WoW expansions arent an MMO 'launch')
It will be massively successful regardless of its 'lack of innovation'. (Which is bs by the way, hundreds of hours of voice acting making a game grindless for the mass majority of people is a big innovation).
You will earn a few companions through your time playing, you will earn different ones for each class type.
They have personal stories and opinions on your actions and possible of a love or hate interest down the road.
You can buy them or give them equipement and even give them your bound equipment your wearing.
They can craft items for you.
They can sell your junk in your inventory ( similar to Torchlight )
Then can go on missions and earn you money and or items ( similar to AC Brotherhood)
They will usually at time be more bad ass then you and will probably save your but a lot in the game, especially when you go into the Heroic Zones that are +2 persons and you think that extra person means your companion.
More fun things:
Each planet has split up Zone types, You have your towns and cities, your Normal Zones, Heroic Zones, Personal Story Zones and Flashpoints. There could be more, but for the two classes I played and 3 planets I was on, that's pretty much what I could see.
Normal and Personal Story Zones are all mostly able to be done with just you and your companion.
Heroic Zones and Flashpoints this is where you will require groups, people trying these zones without groups will be easily laughed at by any living person and if your companion had a voice, them as well.
Fully Voiced Cinematic Stories are a huge part of this game, from your personal ones, quest givers and your companions, it's really bring a story into the game and changing the way you play an MMO, this has Bioware signature all over it and it works great. Even when I was in a group when there was a cinematic story, I never felt like I needed to rush through the conversation.
Light, Netural and Dark Side choices in conversations.
The UI / Menu system is laid out really nice and easy to navigate through.
Your ship becomes your house / storage locker / transportation to planets
Combat and Animation are smooth and look really good.
Character design and planet design are pretty impressive, especially if you have a nice gaming rig.
You have the ablity to color blend your whole outfit to match your chest item, which is a pretty cool feature.
Weakest park of the game:
Worst feature of the game is the Mini Game Space Combat, it looks great, but plays really bad, it's tacky and feels tackled on. Bioware should of made this in a future expansion or a later on patch release. Hopefully with time they will tweak the mother loving S@it out of it and get it playing great. Good thing this is a optional part of the game, something you don't have to do at all.
Has down one of my favorite MMO experiences I've had in a long time.
Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)
Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.
Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.

All of this AND the Star Wars IP...

Remember Old School Ultima Online

see, i enjoyed the space combat, it was pointless but it was a nice break
like sitting down in front of a game of pacman on an 80's arcade machine after a long day at work..
