The exact same people complaining about Lineage 2 will be lauding how amazing Diablo 3 is.

at first i hated FFXI's need for a controller to be able to play more easily. but after awhile i really got to love it and even miss it now in other games.

similarly with click movement, some games will allow me to use it and at times i will, its just easier at times to play one way and easier to play another way at a different time.

i just don't get the black and white, almost fundamentalist, attitude about game mechanics people have. every game has its frustrations and its benefits. and if its lopsided for you then move on.

    no biggie.

One could be called finite, the other infinite.
A finite game is played for the purpose of winning,
an infinite game for the purpose of continuing play."

They are completely different types of games. Diablo 3 is an isometric game.

They're both point and click RPGs.

Clearly these people do not hate the point and click mechanic they hate the fact that it's not a direct WoW clone.  It is something different in an MMO and instead of getting used to it they're just taking the time to hate on it.

Lineage 2 is a mmorpg, not just a simple rpg. you can't compare both. one is meant to be played with a lot of people where one is meant to be played alone or with a couple friend.

    It doesn't even compare

lineage 2 is nothing like d2 or 3......dont compare this trash to a good game such as D2 and D3

there is arrow keys movement  but it feels really bad implemented, it feels somewhat like archlord online taht feels choppy or delayed..... i couldnt stand neither that clunky arrow movements nor point and click

this is the reason i flushed this game down the toilet because it doesnt matter how much i like a game.... no WASD = not for me no matter transition to f2p

i will say tho u cant compare diablo to mmo like lineage 2 LOL, i dont think WOW has anything to do with that and fyi some of us haveing been playin games since before WOW even exsisted

OMG yes its true not all game are wow clones !!!

the whole clone thing is retarded as human kind hasnt had an original idea in the last 500 or 1000 years

I believe a Diablo server (as in one running game of Diablo) can be played with eight people at once.  The modern raid is 10 people.  The average pvp arena is 5-10 people.  Come again?

It's like if people were hating on Maple Story because it is a side scroller and then on the other hand praising how amazing of a game Super Mario Brothers was.

    Doesn't compute.

Same here.  I can't get used to the point and click either...just have no idea how to play that way.  It's like trying to drive a car with the steering wheel behind my back, my feet in the air and my head looking out the side windows.  I feel your pain.  Wanted to like the game and get deep into it, but character feedback is the number one game killer in any video game for me.

    (bad english)

    Well, i'm the oposite way.

For me WASD just kills some aspects in game and turns things like PvP completely complex things until you are a PRO.

I play Lineage 2 cuz, for me, point and click really reduces some skill bugs and i like it.

    2. Compare WoW with Lineage its crazy, there's two completely diferent game dinamics and the WASD thing is not better than Point and Click, it just depends of your way of playing.

IDK what you all talking about, I got used to the point and click gameplay after around 2-3 days of playing the game. Its really smooth actully which was unexpected for me. Now am in love with this game =-D.

it's funny, i really prefer keys movement but in l2 the clicky move just works.

in fact, when i started to play wow (i'd played l2 first) i turned on the click-move option in wow, thinking it'd be the best way to play and was surprised when it was terrible.  l2 is really the only mmo i've seen where i like the clicky move option.

I move with the mouse in every MMORPG I play even if I have to do something like right click + left click to move. WASD + 1-0 for skills has always felt ridiculous to me.

  • GajariGajari Member Posts: 984

The funny thing is how so many people were like "Noo, WASD movement is in the options! You're stupid!"

The fact is, WASD movement in L2 is clunky and doesn't have to responsiveness of other games that are designed with it in mind. If you use WASD, you're going to be at a severe disadvantage in all aspects of the game and will likely enjoy the game less than if you just get used to point and click movement.

So the topic is right, in my opinion.

  • Kuro1nKuro1n Member UncommonPosts: 775

Only types of games where i can accept WASD is where you have to aim, that is certainly not the case with L2.

So I gave it another shot today, completely changed my mindset on how one should move about in a 3D environment.  I still don't like it but I can adapt.  However, trying to reply to tells, shout, click on mobs, etc is also a nightmare and is done very differently then the standard MMORPG norm.   That on top of the fact that this game, while claiming to be MULTIPLAYER, and it is, but holy crap, everyone is rude, doesn't speak, kill steals, loot steals, it's amazing how this game is popular at all.

I had to fight over respawning corpses that all I had to do was click on them and then emote /sorrow one time.  They then disappear.  Countless times I couldn't get to the bodies in time other times I was fighting with 2 to 3 other people.  This is horrible design.  Is it so hard to have a static corpse than everyone can use at once?  I mean....other games do it.  And that is just one small example, I could go on, but it's not worth it.

It will get better. If you can get passed your first 20 levels or so you'll eventualy hit bigger spawn zones, meaning that there are more mobs and you have more space to farm.  And even though you'll still find some rude people and stealers they seem to be more rare in higher levels. At least that's what I've noticed so far.

Alright, I'll keep at it for now.  Just trying to figure out how to target mobs quickly...I miss tab targeting to cycle through mobs in other games.  That and find a fast skill that a dark elf mage can use to grab mobs quickly.

Theres a "action" called "nexttraget", i think. Put that action in your action bar and them bind a key to that. It can be the "tab" if you want.

Ah, much better thanks.  Now I can actually grab mobs faster.  Still feels clunky but now I can at least manage.  I'm a clicker so this game is a bit of a kick in the pants for me, I have to actually use the hotkeys now, but at least it's easier to do that since I'm not using WASD to move.  I tend to revert to WoW movement at times and get chat spam that looks like this

    wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaadddddddddddddddsssssssssssss lol.

So used to moving the camera with my mouse and moving my character with the keyboard WASD keys.

Other thing that was really important to me was disable the "reset camera".

I use the right bottom mouse to round camera but with this feature activate 1 single click in right mouse bottom reset camera and was really annoying. After disable that option it works perfect for me.

Im still around options and "actions" to put the game the way i like it.

yeah, I noticed that annoyance as well.  Thanks for the advice.  All this changing of the options to make it work however, for a game this old, is a little sad IMO.

I don't mind click n move or wasd.  In WoW, for PVP, I disable wasd and it allow me to bind those keys to important skills for my rogue.  Most WoW PVPers I know don't use wasd, but I can see why some would prefer for PVE in that game.
