Please help, WOW or Rift?

raiko22raiko22 Member Posts: 58

i recently downloaded rift again

and i see better graphics straight up, with an elaborate skill tree system

but

is it "better" than wow? stupid question i know as it really does depend on what every inividual is after, however i see i Rift as being the only option against wow probably because it has a similar feel, and based on this i think one could be better than the other

does Rifts graphics give you better immersion than wow? or is wows formula still better even with inferior graphics?

thats my main question

others are, in your opinion

is it as smooth to play? does your toon feel solid?

are the classes all well suited to grouping? play their roles well?

have you got any big complaints about either game? (dont whinge about wow for the sake of it... please!)

is pvp balanced?

are the dungeons well scripted?

does the pet system work well? btw if you rolled a cleric how is his pet system specifically for questing?

is the tank threat sustainable?

are healers capable?

most of these questions are obviously for rift but if you have any input at all non related th these questions please tell me

please keep this wow vs rift

i know this is an old question but im reliving it

Unless they added a shit load of content to Rift in the last 2 months i stopped playing, then i wouldnt recommend it.

Great graphics or not, its content isnt gonna get u past a month+ of playing, unless u get in2 a high raid guild by farming months of the same stuff over n over for gear...

Its hard to tell realy, both of em are pretty decent. Wow is further ahead on most parts. more dungeons more raids more stuff to do in the world.

If you aint tired of Wow i would go for that one, but if ur bored with wow and stil want something like it Rift is a good option.

One thing i realy hate with rift is theyr quest system, you need to complete a quest to open a new one so you cant pick what quests you want to do, you gotta do most of em. This might not be an issue for most but i personaly hated it with passion

I only played it in the betas and it didn't intrigue me enought to go back afterward, I went back to WoW. I've heard that once you hit max level in Rift there's not enough content to keep you interested but that was back after it just launched, things are probably different now that several content patches have been released.

I'm not saying the game wasn't fun, because it was entertaining, it just felt like I was playing a better budgeted free to play game, I only made it to level 20 and I was having a blast actually but once I tried healing dungeons I didn't feel the immersion I feel in WoW, they have likely polished it much more since then. I would say you should try both of them on a trial and decide for yourself, others will be biased toward the game they play.

yeah i sorta got that polished f2p feel when i was playing it too while playing i kept thinking about getting back on wow for that immersion that it has. hmm.. i wanna get into it but i feel like im wasting wow time lol, which the same problem i have with every other mmorpg on the market.

it sucked me in more than any of the others though.

What does that mean? It's the same end game content that WoW has, for example.

I suppose a better question would be, what do you want when you reach max level.

Basically: Rift is prettier, Wow is larger.

So if you spend 4+ hours every day playing Wow is the best choice.

If you play less on the other hand Rift is excellent.

All this assuming that you havn't spent too many years in Wow/EQ2/LOTRO. In that case I would suggest something a little different to get some variation. Neither of the games offer that much new gaming experience.

Wow also have slightlybetter written quests while Rifts character customization system is better, or at least are offering more choices. Both are however solid games so if nothing I or anyone said is much of a help, just flip a coin.

    Why not?

I mean you are missing out on some potential nice games like LotRO and AoC if you limit yourself.

WoW.  I played Wow since vanilla, then quit to beta Rift and played Rift for 2 months before quitting.  Rift is an okay game.  The questing is very standard, and the end game is even more standard.  Beyond those two activities, Rift has nothing truly interesting to offer.  PvP is too dis-jointed, and too frequently nerfed and invaided by a flavor-of-the-month to be enjoyable.  Although Rift has a more visually appealing appearance, the shininess quickly wears off, once you visit the same quest hub 20 times.

If you are graphic freak play Rift. But everything else is on side of WOW. It is still best fantasy mmo out there. Wow is legend and it will stay forever. It was only game (beside eve online) that holds me for years. Do not listen to haters just play for more time and you will see what is real mmo magic:)

i found lotro too "single player" dindnt get too far though. well i did some skirmishes couple of runs and crafted some gear (best crafting system ever) and liked it but found it too hard to make a group, reminded me of oldschool wow. however i hear their bringing out a dungeon finder so i might get the client up to date then. solid game, probably more immersive than rift or any other game besides wow. lotro is up there. (this is all ireelevant to endgame as i havent been near it on lotro to give an opinion)

i found AOC to be awesome, then i didnt.. thats all i got to say about AOC :P

Correction:  Rift offers 3 races.   Two of these races are identical between the two factions (elfs/kelari and human/eth).  Beyond those 3 races, the customization is pretty basic for making your character unique looking, and certainly not a nit better (or worse) than WoW.

This entire thread makes me cry for the MMORPG genre. =(

To me, Rift just feels too much like its trying to be the "anti-wow" as far as look goes. It comes off really lame, the world, while technically beautiful feels very uninspired and bland.

Sadly, WoW is still the most enjoyable MMO available IMO. Its not perfect, but at least it just feels like a very well crafted world.

Don't listen to naysayers dude, I just recently bought Rift and I am having a blast playing it. I've played WoW before and it was fun for sometime but the questing was like super boring, in Rift I have much more fun levelling and the community is SO much better. Also the soul system offers a lot of class customization, way more than WoW in my opinion. World PVP is a lot of fun on Ember Isle if you join a good PVP server like Dayblind.

Also I love the invasion system in Rift, it gives you something to do between questing and crafting and can be really fun if you do it in a group. Rift definitely has more group content early game as compared to WoW but that is if you are looking to group, you can solo if you want to though. By group content I mean the rifts and stuff.

WoW has a lot more content, that is true but then it is a 7 year old game. Rift currently adds content much much faster than WoW. For example the first added content after Cata was like 6 months in whereas Rift adds more content every 2 months or so. Also I am terribly bored of WoW and can never go back to that game, everything in that game screams been there, done that. Rift is new and fresh and the community on some servers is great.

So I would suggest you to give Rift a try :)

I would say that WoW has a lot more content and a much larger player base (If you care about population).  Rift on the other hand is a bit more 'fresh' but with a lot less content.  at this time, I would probably recommend WoW.

Since both have free trials, try both and figure it out yourself OP.

I agree. We can try to sell you the game, but it's best to try out the trials and see for yourself which you enjoy most. Dif strokes for dif folks.
