Class decision based on voice acting and story.

Ive been watching the beta videos that have been coming out this past couple of days and im very impressed with the dialogue. The game looks fantastic and the classes all look like they offer entertaining story and gameplay.

Does anybody else find themselves in a dilemma over what to play as a main based on the performance of the person voicing your character?

I have noticed complaints on TOR forums about Jedi Consulars sounding too dull in comparison to their Sith counter parts (I love the sinister English accents).

I know when i finally get to play the voice acting of my character will definately be a major determinant over my choice of class. What about you guys?

I also found that Sith storylines where generally more funny than Jedi ones at least early on.

Imperial agent story was pretty good, but bounty hunter for me was likely the most fun, although both of these classes I only took to level 15 ish.

My favorite gender/class voice acting combinations up to now:

    • female Sith Warrior (Natasha Little)

    • male Sith Warrior (Mark Bazeley)

    • male Sith Inquisitor (Euan Morton)

    • female Smuggler (Kath Soucie)

    • female Imperial Agent (Jo Wyatt)

Some of them are not necessarily the voices I'd normally go for, but they do a good job of getting you into the mood of those storylines. I'd even say the voice acting sold me on Smuggler and Sith Warrior.

I normally love Jennifer Hale's work, but the grim all-business angle of female Trooper felt a bit over-done to me.

    edit: added voice actor names

If I'd chose only based on story I'd go for Bounty Hunter. Sith Warrior and Agent are high up the list as well. Smuggler and Trooper are the only stories I've really liked on Republic, but I prefer the voicework of the Smuggler.

Favourite voices are (male) the BH, SW, Smuggler and Agent - in that order. I haven't tried any female voices. The Sith Inquisitor is alright as well, if you can make a character that fits it - which I have problems with as I like a bit more... heavy handed characters.

Personally, I'll play a Sith Warrior though - both class gameplay, story and voice are high up the list and perhaps my favourites.

Although I will be playing a Trooper its going to be tough not to want to play the male Bounty Hunter

Whose voice over is none other than Steve Blum.

Who did the voice for Spike Spiegel for Cowboy Bebop.

Yeah, its a different Bounty Hunter premise all together,  but still Steve Voice is pretty cool.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but according to a screen cap of credits I saw somewhere, the male Bounty Hunter voice actor seems to be not Steve Blum, but Tom Spackman.

    Female Trooper for Jennifer Hale.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Love the British Imperial voices! :D

And yeah I can sympathize, the stories make a lot of my decision too. I like Smuggler for the bit fun/shady char and Inquisitor and Consular for the exploring of mysteries stories.

I've liked all the stories so far & the voice acting, though I think my favourite has to be the Imperial Agent followed by the Bounty Hunter.

Surprised me just how good the non-force users have been developed.

Hmm, interesting, thanks for that. Now I wonder whether imdb has it wrong or that screen cap was just bogus.

My favirote voice ( tried all male characters) is the Bounty Hunter.

I did not like the male jedi voice. It was too young and flat.

Weird yeah. I just noticed that link you put up either that was a chopped up verision of the credits or something is wrong with it. They list Jennifer Hale like 2 different times. I'm pretty sure the Male Bounty Hunter is Steve Blum he has a very distinct voice. The last 2 Previous Beta's I was in I tried rolling the credits only to get errors constantly only showing numbers and just playing music.

I did't like the male jedi either; however, all the same, I thought it seemed like the male bounty hunter was trying too hard.

Male Sith Warrior, I have found my voice in him.

The male bounty hunter to me sounded like it could be the lead of a generic action film fueled with tits, testosterone and lots of explosions, which i think was the point xD

just went through the credits in game and it is spackman listed for male bounty hunter.  blum does the voice for one of the inquisitor companions and a character named baron deathmark(i think he is part of the bounty hunter story but not sure since havent played it)

as for hale being listed twice, she does the voice for both the fem trooper and satele shan and for someone reason they list satele twice.  they also list jamie glover for malgus twice

edit: i do agree it sounds like blum and was who i thought it was when the bounty hunter class trailer was released

edit 2: for those that don't know, jedi knight male is voiced by david hayter aka solid snake and male consular is voiced by nolan north

  • dreamsofwardreamsofwar Member Posts: 468

Im leaning on female Sith Inquisitor at the moment (voiced by Xanthe Elbrick), although ill be playing for light side points.

I had originally wanted to go for male Jedi Consular but was dissapointed by the voice. I know Jedi are supposed to be guard their emotions, but still.

For comedy value id play Imperial Agent. The use of a strong and proper English accent to portray an evil character is always funny, especially if you're British like i am.

Bit meh on the voice of my trooper but loath the dialogue he uses in conversations like the constant Imps reference and is just wayyy too much of a teen motto style.  Was expecting more of a ME quality which is definately not there.

Some of the voice over acting has ruined my decision's to a degree but so has the companion's each class gets. Atleast for my 1st run threw the classes. I wasn't very found of the IA Male I get the whole Jame's Bond thing but it's just not for me I liked the female though. Same goes for the SI/JC the male Voice over's left me meh mostly the JC. I will however have to admit I'll probably have so many alt's I won't care I fully intend to play each class twice if not more.

The voices kind of dictate my character's look which is a bit annoying. I made a grizzled old man for a Trooper but his frat boy voice and the way people kept calling him "kid" did not work at all. Oh well. I managed to make an Imperial Agent that had a look I liked as well as a good fit for the voice.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

I played Male Trooper, Inquisitor and Jedi, also a female Bounty Hunter.

Found the Jedi and Trooper voices were kinda lame, not bad, just wasn't great and kind of didn't match my characters. Inquisitors voice was ok, kind of annoyed me though. BT female voice was the best for me, it sounded like a regular person, easy to immerse the voice into my character.

The male Sith Warrior and Smuggler voice overs are my favourite, but I found the male Jedi JK/Con pretty flat, especially the Jedi Knight. It's like the voice actor confused acting the part of a Jedi with someone with aspergers who has no variance in their tone. it was bland delivery after bland delivery, I'm hoping that in later chapters the voice actor up's his game.

Really liked the female Inquisator and Bounty Hunter portrayals.  Did not care for the male BH at all, seemed very cliche.   The Smuggler male voice was pretty good though.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

I made an old black man for my trooper, so he could've been that black guy you meet at the starts dad. :)
