Complainers don't do SWTOR any favors when they spout negativity over a game they knew they weren't going to enjoy in the first place. The OP isn't a review... and it isn't constructive, its simply - criticism - that is all.
Criticism can be constructive, much more so than just saying that everything is great. Besides she did say the reason why voice acting is not a viable good feature, becuse it is a one shot thing. Once you heard the dialog once you dont need to hear it again, unless we are talking some Sean Conner/Al Pacino voice acting.
So her point still stands. What are the good features in this game beside the voice acting?
Her point doesn't stand, the Story is a major point to buying and playing the game.
For example, flashpoints have story, and depending on your choices in them depend on what you do and who you fight.
You have a great crafting system... the combat is very strategic and takes forethought and active reasoning to be good at.
The combat animations are really great, especially in comparison to many games currently on the market today.
The companion system is far and away one of my favorite parts of the game.
The heroic content has a lot of challenge to it, but its unfortunate the OP barely left the extended tutorial (starter planet) to get to any of that content.
The worlds are huge and exploration for datacrons (and/or holocrons) is not only fun, but challenging - it requires true exploration of the surrounding areas for those skill gains.
These are, of course just some of the features... but to discredit any of them because 1 person doesn't like them is very shortsighted.
It is like trying to talk to a wall... the fact remains that someone played this game and did not find it enjoyable so they listed the features of the game and why they did not like it.
Now you are arguing that just because some person (not just one, many people have said that single player storylines does not make an MMORPG) does not like it then they are not allowed to say so?
And then at the same time you are saying that it is not constructive to criticise a game but blindly defending it, like you have been doing, is somehow constructive?
I think you need to step back and realise it is Bioware developing this game and not you. They dont need you to bash every person who does not like it.
Didn't try it and refuse calling it crafting since you can't do anything its just some NPCS doing your work, very MMORPG like I know...
Mechanically, it's nearly identical to Fallen Earth, which is known to have one of the best(particularly once SWG is gone) crafting systems out there. Only dif is, it's easier to imagine one of your team back on your ship putting together a blaster than it is to imagine yourself putting a gun together while you're fighting giant radioactive bugs.
I really like Dark Pony's sigs. Good job on those. As for the game, I'll probably play it eventually. It seems less buggy than other MMOs I've tried in beta or at launch. Felt more like a single player game to me. Would have preferred better looking graphics. I anticipate playing it 3 - 6 months to run a couple toons through the main story line and different sides, but I don't think this game appeals to me as a long-term commitment. It is a solid theme park game with well-executed features of it's MMO predecessors. I don't think it's particularly original or a game-changer for the genre.
The OP should learn from this post. Instead of a long rant on hates against a game (one that the OP is probably still going to play), its's a clear, concise thought that's objective. It's not his kind of game but it does some things very well, and might be fun for a while.
So where's the positive? Not that I expected any from someone who has blasted the game from the get go, but just figured I'd ask because the opposite always comes up when there's a positive review.
To those slamming the OP. You are not doing the game any favors when you insist that the game doesn't get fun until past level X. Some of you keep bringing this up that the game gets better past the teens. A game should be fun right out of the box. If you must grind through boring content just to get to something resembling fun - the game is a badly desgined game.
As to the topic. I looked hard for positive things myself while doing beta...and I myself couldn't find one. Sometimes a game is so borked, that nothing positive will be seen in the eyes of the person experiencing it. I am curious though, what did you see in game you consider a positive? Please do not mention the voice over commentary - that was the least of my likes because that would get old after the first time through. Other than the VO which everyone seems to mention was a positive? Space combat, character customization, combat? Please make a list of what you all think is positives for the game.
So wait because you didn't like something I can't mention it? Really? what does your negative have to do with my positive? .
No I didn't find space combat to be a positive nor overall character creation, not to say I didn't come up with characters I liked the look of, there just weren't enough options for my taste. I felt the combat was a positive. I felt the VO was a positive as well as the fact there are multiple stories to see, and no I don't care if you feel it's a postive or not, nor whether you want to hear it or not.
I felt the game was fun from the time I picked it up until I put it down, I saw some aspects that could be better I saw aspects that could be worse, I don't feel it's a badly designed game though.

The game will find it fans I'm sure, but its not the holy thing some hype victims make it out to be, just like they did with Warhammer (though they are comparable in terms of linearic handholding and lacking exploration options).
And what game are you a hype victim of Der?
None
Just not buying into the PR crap anymore (no matter which game). Waiting for open betas, then test it and give my personal review about it. If I like it, I will play it if not, then not just that easy. That said the game I'm right now looking forward to is ArcheAge.

Yah, thought I detected the sandboxy rhetoric. What you are is a fanboy of a concept.
Now can we possibly please stop labeling people and putting them in little boxes so building straw men from them is easier? It's easy and convenient, but it's not a sign of a "balanced" point of view.

I don't think you understand where this part of the conversation even started... I don't care about the OP, he wasn't going to give a favorable review anyways...
My point was to Teala. She said "Whats so good about the game, and don't say story". My comment was... "If you ask whats so good about the game and then give a condition like 'but don't say ...' whats the point of asking whats so good about it?"
I haven't been blindly defending the game... you haven't read very many of my posts have you? Your understanding is minimal at best.... I could easily list a number of the games shortcomings.. but that would be a pretty stupid response when someone asks you whats so good about a game -- wouldn't you think?
Now, take a step back, reread each post and what I replied to, and try to understand the context of what I was saying instead of thinking I was just blindly bashing the OP.
Not that it matters, because I do disagree with the OP quite a bit, and so do plenty of others... but my response wasn't to him, and yet somehow - you thought that it was.

Not true, I'm a fan of real MMORPGs and you should know the following:
{mod edit} That said I've read some really good positive reviews from people buying the game but they've also mentioned the obvious flaws plus accepted the fact, that each review is subjective to everyones own opinion. I can deal with criticism no problem at all but I refuse to deal with blind "everything is great so shut up folks".
If you like the game, fine I hope it turns out the way you've been dreaming about for so long.
Another thing worth mentioning:
I'm also sick of all the "this will be the new standard crap" threads. Everyone should hope, that there aren't anymore standards cause standards leading to clones and clones are bad. This is a game for those who like a storydriven world with voice overs and some sort of mmoglike features on top of it.

You just said yourself what sets a decent review apart from a bad one, balance. Sorry but there was none of that here.

And Just what is a REAL MMORPG. I have played so many and I can tell you they are all similar in some ways and all different in others. The only reason you got all the "fanboi's" On here trashing your review is because it;s not a review, it's an opinion peice where you rant on about everything you don't like without stating anything that is good or anything that could appeal to you know the average gamer.
OMG wait did I hit a nugget of truth this game wasn't made for the people that supported SWG and hated the combat upgrade, for the people that loved Old school EQ and UO. No this game was made for the Star Wars fan and player that found WoW's loot and raid system to time consuming and unappealing that don't play it anymore. This game was made for the people that quit galaxies because their own personal story was so boring and mundane it was like having a second job. This game is made for the people that can maybe play 10-20 hours a week want to progress with their friends and guilds which they can since you only need 8 people to raid.
This game was not meant for most current MMORPG games it was made for those that left because they don't have time, those that got bored, and those people that love being a Star Wars Hero! If you don't like it that's fine but I wish people would stop calling their opinions reviews, reviews are balanced opinon peices are what the OP gave us.
Oh and I will be playing TOR because unlike SWG it doesn't make me feel like I have a second job I feel like I am a Sith or a Jedi in a battle for the fate of the Galaxy and that's why I play games in the first place.

If you are going to label this a review instead of a rant, you have to throw in some pros and cons.
I get that there were some things the OP doesnt like, and decided to dwell on the details of those things.
Due to the fact that the SW following is so closely knit and die hard, I have to admit, a sandbox is more appropriate for the following. While I agree with a few comments, the justification or reasoning behind the dislikes are unwarranted.
1. This has been discussed in the forums time and time again and will not change for a while. Its not the best, but certainly not the worst.
2. Besides not being customizable, most people in beta found it to be acceptable. At first use, it feels clumsy. Spend some more time with it and it grows on you.
3. I never saw the issue you reported here. The AI was in line with other recently released games. This point counters what others are saying about having too many skills. I am assuming this is because you didnt play through much of the content at lvl 13.
4. This is certainly not an open world and I have to agree entirely with you. BUT. The first 3 planets are tiny compared to the higher lvl planets. Some of them are massive and will take you days to explore.
5. I dont see it. Maybe my HW runs it better, I couldnt tell you. BUT what I saw was comparable to any other DX11 game out there with good effects.
6. The stories are very good. Voiceovers can be a little cheesy at times but thats what makes it fun and what makes it BW. You can easily skip past the voices and cinematics if you have already experienced it. Again, the argument seems to be unfounded.
7. I too am disappointed in crafting. The items you can craft are not nearly the lvl of items looted. And your item crafting ability is also limited. I can go with having your comps doing it for you, but its the mechanic behind it that I think could use some revamping.
8. Same skill tree system as in most other MMOs. If you knock one, you have to knock them all.
9. Unwarranted. The level of challenge is average. Which is where it has to be. In order to attract new players, it cant be too difficult. For seasoned MMO players this may feel too easy, but you are a small portion of the customerbase here, higher lvl content and Heroics are geared more towards vets or killing time with friends. Sounds more selfish to me than anything.
10. You must have gotten on a bad server with all the weekend testers. The community I experienced in the forums and online has been much better than most MMOs. I'm sure that will change at release, but for now, it looks very promising.
11. Glad I won't be seeing you in game anytime soon
The topic here is not the OP. It's also not DarkPony's sig (the initial post or two there was fine, but not others using it to derail). Please remain on topic and discuss the content of the thread. If you can't think of anything on-topic, might be better to avoid it than derail or attack other posters. There's never anything wrong with taking a step back and not flaming someone.

And the fact that most of the accusers are themselves "loyal" to some other game/concept never occured to you? What motivates them to wander out into the ethernet away from their own game and find another game to bash, do you suppose?
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I agree to the OP in most points and to some i would have even added to, but he has missed some of the good stuff about the game. Like combat is fun and the companions are great i think.
That being said, the SWTOR forums really need some moderation to put some halt to the rampant fanboism taking over, but then this website always favored fanboys over critics. You may agree to the OP or not, but at least he brought up his points while every other fanboy-reply to him is total OT-crap or personal attack.
I've seen guys like you in the Aion, Warhammer, AoC, Rift and other forums spewing your "lol this game is best OP is idiot" stuff allover everyone raising a concern -nowadays these forums are long dead because their respective games are.
And now you can hammer the report button to see who's first to get me a warning, like you always do with everyone who doesn't fall for the hype. No matter how good or bad the game may be - it already suffers on the worst community i've seen. Bioware obviously got their target audience in place already.
Ummmm, Its Biowares site for the game......You think they should moderate their fans from raving about it? Seriously?
Maybe you should go onto the offical Twilight website and tell teh moderators to ban anyone form saying anything good about the books or movies......
Are you serious, guy? Is this your first day on this forum? Always favoring fanboys over critics....hilarious.
Your post count is calling you hypocritical on this one.
{mod edit}
I don't find that true, if people would say "this game has some serious issues" that would be one thing... but people don't say that. They make rash blanket statements, sometimes attacking those that like the game, or attacking a particular type of player.... then when theres a response to it... its just a downhill slope.
When it gets out of control, thats when the mods step in.... but posters continuously blur the lines on what can be considered an attack.
For example, saying "SWTOR is a childish game for kids" I mean.. really... for one .. it IS an opinion, however, are you saying its a game children might enjoy, or are you saying anyone who plays SWTOR is a child? Borderline flame bait there...
Oh? Well strange it seems you like to use the word fanboy at least. Should I stop reading your posts too? I dont think I will se ya at launch, different country ... sorry.
I wasn't writing a review of the game. I don't really care if people use the words fanboy, hater, troll, unicorn, whatever. What I'm talking about is people passing these posts off as reviews, when they are clearly just very biased impressions pieces.
If sites I went to for news and reviews on games started off all of their reviews with "Well I'm probably gonna get flamed by all the fanbois out there, but this game sucks. TROLLLSZZ LOLOOLLL" I wouldn't read that site for very long.
If I needed a review of the game, I wouldn't want to read that crap in the first line. Sorry that you didn't understand what I wrote, maybe I was unclear, but I'm specifically talking about these "reviews" that pop up here all the time with similar comments in the first line. Anyone who starts off a "review" like that is NOT a credible source of information in my opnion.
Anyone who starts off a "review" like that is NOT a credible source of information in my opnion.
Concur.
I certainly don't agree with some of what BadSpock has to say (sorry if you're out there watchin', BS), but at least he showed the grace and honesty to label his review as what it was--purely an Op-ed piece. I can respect that, even if we differ on specific opinions.

Whenever I read one of these threads the first thing that comes to mind is "Did this guy make four of the best RPG games ever for PC's like Bioware did?" Cause if not I guess I would rather trust the people who did.
You just have to laugh , bite your lip and feel content in the knowledge you have knowing that een if you point ouit the obvious it matters little here.

I will be playing the game Bioware have developed..... And guess what if for some reason I don't like the game I will stop playing it. What I am not going to do here is whine because the game has not been personalised just for me.
I like what Bioware do and in general they always deliver to a point where a product delivers to their design.
Great game , and to the OP don't fall in the proverbial septic tank because you know what you will get covered in.

We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play."
"Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."
I've not seen one post ever that said that about any game (everything is great).
You just said yourself what sets a decent review apart from a bad one, balance. Sorry but there was none of that here.

AMEN Brother
A quick note:
The topic here is not the OP. It's also not DarkPony's sig (the initial post or two there was fine, but not others using it to derail). Please remain on topic and discuss the content of the thread. If you can't think of anything on-topic, might be better to avoid it than derail or attack other posters. There's never anything wrong with taking a step back and not flaming someone.

And the fact that most of the accusers are themselves "loyal" to some other game/concept never occured to you? What motivates them to wander out into the ethernet away from their own game and find another game to bash, do you suppose?

The following statement is false
The previous statement is true
Ummmm, Its Biowares site for the game......You think they should moderate their fans from raving about it? Seriously?
Maybe you should go onto the offical Twilight website and tell teh moderators to ban anyone form saying anything good about the books or movies......

I certainly don't agree with some of what BadSpock has to say (sorry if you're out there watchin', BS), but at least he showed the grace and honesty to label his review as what it was--purely an Op-ed piece. I can respect that, even if we differ on specific opinions.
