Star Wars: The Old Republic: Early Access Moves Up! Pre-load Begins Now!

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

In a double-whammy of an announcement sure to please fans eager to get into the game, BioWare has announced that Early Access will move up two days and begin on December 13 (previously December 15) and that players can also begin pre-loading right now.

Those of you who participated in the beta events from November 25 onward will NOT need to pre-load the game client if you still have the beta client installed. A simple patch is all that's necessary.

Do keep in mind that not everyone will get in on the 13th; BioWare is still going with rolling invitations based on when customers redeemed their pre-order codes. The program has simply been extended from the previous five days to a possible seven.

Sucks that Gamestop ran out of Early Access codes when I picked up my pre-order.

Ya same here, even though I pre ordered the day the release date was announced. I quickly cancelled my preorder and got early access codes for the wife and I from Bestbuy. Gamestop has been horrible in everything they do lately. I will never use them again, ever.

I think that, that is a fair move for people that pre-ordered late, especially if you take into account all the people that pre-ordered after the last 3 beta weekends. I had my pre-orders in on the first day of announcement, but felt kinda bad for those people that were on the fence until after they got to play. So that is a good move on the part of BW/EA.

Keep seeing posts about this, is this USA only? I only ask, because originally USA was 20/12/11 and UK was 22/12/11. For many reasons, the UK release was brought forward inline with the US one to 20/12/11.

With the early access program, we have now been told that we can sell the game from the 15th, with those who pre-ordered early enough, playing from that date. As a game seller, I'll be a bit pissed off with EA if they change the date again.  That'll be the 3rd time for us in the UK, and a nightmare to communicate to all our customers.

Especially as I have the 15th booked off to play....

    Too many alts!!

Aye, I pre-ordered after one of those beta weekends, didn't think much of it before that, that game has a funny way of sucking you in.

Your entire guild cancelled because their progression might possibly be halted by a day or two, huh?  Sounds reasonable.  LOL.

"Early Game Access* for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ is only a few days away! Starting December 13, 2011, The Old Republic will begin emailing invitations to start your Early Game Access. Invitations will be sent throughout the Early Game Access period offering rolling access to the game in the order in which you redeemed your Pre-Order Code, so be sure to check your email inbox!" - http://www.swtor.com/news/news-article/20111207

From what I get when I read that, it means they will start sending emails out on the 13th until the 15th letting the people that did pre-order get in game on and between the 13th to the 15th. You will receive an email in order which you redeeemed your game code.

I don't think they plan to open the doors and flood the servers all at once on the 13th. Sounds like they are taking an approach of let people in over time from the 13th to 15th. I am sure this also lets them gauage wether or not they should stand up new servers etc for possible hellish login que times.

They announced the system the day they announced pre-orders. Everyone had lots of notice.  It's a smart move anyway. It allows them to get servers online to handle the load while people are actually playing the game instead of everyone dealing with melting servers and login queues.

Why didn't you preorder the first day Bioware announced preorders were available?  I know everyone in my guild had their preorders confirmed and their preorder codes entered in their account page the day preorders were announced.

Here we go! Its like when you go to a theme park and go on the biggest roller coaster and then it makes the steep climb to the top you start to get excited and nervous, despite experiencing it before. Then, as it reaches the top and tilts down, moments away from plunging to the bottom the anticipation starts to become too much as it leaves you hanging. Can't wait to see how this launch goes. Ill be sitting this one out but definately can't wait to try the game in the coming weeks!

Yep, but they updated their news posting for this on the official site with this in mind, up to 7 days.

Yeah. It sounds like they got it better organised than the Rift people did. It took me three days before I could get back with my beta friends on our preferred server that time, The queue times being quoted were incredible.

Ugggh same here it was pathetic having to explain to them over and over again that they should have early access codes (as BW said themselves).  I eventually gave up trying to explain to them that I was not looking for a code that offered beta access but a pre order code that simply informs EA/BW that I infact have pre ordered the game.

After four emails that all said they were out of beta codes I gave up and got my money back and ordered directly from EA.

Just got my email telling me to download it now. Just hoping I get the one saying I start on the 13th in a day or two.

Jackdaw, does that mean you'll be shipping the CE to uk customers on the 15th? Game.co.uk also gave free express delivery for orders over £100, but I'm reading a good few bits of conflicting info, like they'll not be shipping until the 20th which with no grace period is a kick in the nuts.

Gamestop has flubbed up pre-orders from as far back as warhammer online as far as I know. I had to call there corperate offices to get mine for warhammer and they where verry bitchy about it.

As to why it was moved up I am only guessing but I'm willing to bet the LAST wave of pre-orders will be on the 15th now.

  • lol this is awesome. i was bummed because my days off fell before the 15th but now i get 2 days to play right at the beginning(pre-order and entered code day 1) image
