New character creation after Dawn/TC

I've been reading the forums and some of the guides seem to be outdated because of recent changes to the game. For example, Khel had a great guide for creating a fighter/archer, but I understand some of the information has been obsolete since Dawn.
Can anyone summarize important changes following Dawn/TC?
Also, am I gimping my fighter/archer if it is not Thursar/Khurite? I really don't like the look of Thursar, but I like less being gimped in pvp
