Why is it that the long time WoW vets forsake the game that they so so dearly loved that they invested years into? On the other hand other MMO vets show a continuing support for the game that they invested the most time in. For me that was FFXI I played 5 years, have nothing overly bad to say about the game and all kinds of good things to say. I left because the game finally wore on me enough that it was no longer fun, and was time to move on. I constantly see love spread to other games from their vets. They wear it like a badge. But when it comes to WoW vets its portrayed as a shameful act that they played the game a long time.
Am I the only one that sees this trend? Am I wrong?

WoW caused a stagnation in the market, though it also caused the market to grow a ton. People believe that more support of it will cause the stagnation to continue.
They obviously liked playing the game though. All the while games like RIFT and SWTOR and many that have came post wow still get overwhelming support at launch showing support for the WoW type games. Then those games quickly fall of the map. So in one sense they show support for WoW buying wow wannabes, but then dont show support for it by leaving ghost towns in the servers 4 months after launch.

It's so different than it was at launch and a lot of gamers are also hipsters it seems.
(fyi: hipster = someone who only thinks something is cool when its not mainstream)
I dont hate Blizzard or anything I just think they started devoting more attention to Titan, knowing that millions would still play WoW regardless of whatever they put out. And they were right
I think you are kinda wrong, atleast on the still showing love...
I played UO on release....my favorite mmo ever...I hate the new skill system.
I played EQ from release....2nd favorite, favorite 3d mmo....Disliked the instanced content and direction, as did a lot of players, that liked the first few expansions and direction a lot more.
SWG, yeah its going...But ever heard of people complain about a little thing call the CU/NGE?
DAoC....People liked it more, till the Atlantis expansion or something like that, I left earlier, but its my favorite RvR mmo...
I mean thats 4 of my top 5, and I have gripes and complaints, some bigger than others, and most other people that played them and don't anymore have the same or more.
when i talk to peeps that play wow "i dont play wow" and tell them things about a current sandbox im playing..they are like ..wow..cool..that sounds rly cool..and then followed by ..its a shame that they cant make it more like wow with those sandbox features..and i agree..its a shame no1 can make a title that can have a lil of both and be successful..every company out there is just copy / pasteing ideas to make a quick buck till the genra is dead
What you said here is excatly how I feel about the +6yrs I have spent playing WoW. I'm happy you feel that way
These ex-vets are usually the ones saying how easy or dumb down it is. I'd like to see someone say that after doing 25man Ragnaros in Hardmode.
H: Ragnaros: 1767 (3.68%)
Most complaints about dumbing down or / and easy mode are NOT directed at raids.
No no no!
You can't just start making exceptions what people have decided what they consider is easy or not in WoW. The card has been delt a long time and so many of you still continue to say it.
I am proud to say that I've played WoW since the very beginning and I have been there at every step of the way. Who cares what WoW haters think? They can go and play their indie game :P
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.
That's ONE boss mister. How about the rest of the bosses (the heroic ones as well) in FL. And what about this hilarious Dragnsoul? When a mediocre guild (my guild) on an almost dead realm (The Venture Co. EU) kills Cataclysm's final boss in just 2 (yes, 2) resets then something is very wrong with WoW's endgame.
On normal mode? Ohhh, look out everyone we have a badass over here!
I actually don't see that much hate from vets, most say exactly what they say about other games, they enjoyed it, but they grew bored or it changed too much.
Really the only reason people would be embarrassed by ever playing WoW are losers that like to follow the trends. On this website it's cool to hate WoW. Anyway, the only time I've seen someone say, "I can't believe I played that crappy game," was some guy that never played WoW talking about what he thinks WoWers would say after playing Swtor...
I'm perfectly fine with saying WoW was one of my favorite games ever, but it's not the same as saying Warcraft 3 was one of my favorite games, because WC3 doesn't change, MMOs do and not just in small ways.

Apparently you have severe issues in comprehending written English. Read my reply again and let your brain process the information this time.
I quite enjoyed the world PvP when wow launched. It was no DAoC but it was fun. Blizz eventually managed to kill that and turn it into a lobby game. I still didn't last long there, a few months I guess. Every now and then I pop back and level a new character. Personally I just don't get the endlessly repeating a raid to upgrade your +8987 sword of BS to a +9243 sword of better BS so you can endlessley repeat the next raid to upgrade your sword....... I truly don't get it but clearly people do enjoy the raid grind and good luck to them. I guess it wears thin for the most ardent eventually.
Yeah, the first time I beat Rags 6 years ago wasn't even a choice of normal or heroic, kinda like the first time I beat ony, and nef. First time I beat ZA and ZG, they were raids, there was no heroic, it just was. Heroics have added a new wheel to run on it's true, and they have added a new tier of difficulty...but why? The current tier of raiding in cata has three difficulty raids (LFR, Reg, and Heroic)....wtf for?
The only benefit that LFR has brought was a way for those without the time to raid or a guild to raid in, to see content they normally could not see. I think it's a great idea, and I don't begrudge them the ability to see content that I as a current raider in wow am trudging through. Heroic modes...well, if that's your deal, more power to ya. If it makes you feel superior, fantastic, you win the interenet sir/madam, I cannot begin to rise to your greatness, here's a plate of cookies, a slice of pie and a whole damn cake for you. Want some milk to wash that down?
I have run heroic encounters back in Wrath when they were first introduced, and I was all jazzed to beat them....now, I feel like what's the point? I kill the same bosses on regular that I can on heroic (yes I recall sinestra and alganonananonnann), and my loot is the same color of purple. I like raiding, but trying to flex your e-peen cause you beat a "heroic" encounter in wow is like saying your glass of whiskey will get you drunker than my glass of tequila. In the end, we're both smashed, and in the morning, we both find ourselves praying to the porcelin throne.
As to the op's question, I don't shy away from saying I play wow, and have played for the last 7yrs. I have raided, I pvp'd back when honor gained was a weekly progress bar, not a number, I have leveled and deleted more toons than I care to admit, and I have had some really fun times in the game. I'm bored. The new expansion details that I have seen don't really interest me. The world(s) are....too familiar. I feel like I have named every tree in elwynn, counted every rock spire in blades edge, and timed the lightning strikes in storm peaks and icecrown. I'm just bored with it. I can hope that Tor will do it for me, I really enjoyed beta, I have enjoyed all that I read on the game, screenshots, vids, etc. Yes it's a themepark, and as thus, it's very wow-like in it's mechanics, but there are no bloody elves, over zealous orcs, or puntable gnomes and goblins. As you can tell, I'm also tired of the fantasy setting.
There must be something wrong with your brain because your saying WoW endgame is easy based on that fact that your guild beat dragon soul on normal. Also, it doesnt matter if the realm is dead or alive if the people in the raid are good they are good. 2 resets for normal? Ok well obviously you guys are ment to be on heroic so whats so wrong with WoW endgame? Unless your version of english has some secret message what exactly are your trying to communicate?
Maybe you are trying to refer that slowdoves has downed H rag. One would assume he has done all others in Heroic to gear up for H rag?
Please if I'm missing something enlighten me.
The point is to facilitate different difficulty levels for the population of WoW. Thats it. Plain and simple. Some people who finnish say a fps on normal then go do hard, some dont. So you can choose based on your guilds skill level? Yay?
I can see the point, and agree to it's validity. However, chest thumpin, and braggin cause you downed hogger with more hit points and scarier adds is just plain silly to me. And I also question the "skill" of some of these players as well, I'd like to see them down the bosses without all of the addons, mods, timers etc. Play with the basic UI and no addons (the entire raid group), and down the bosses...that would be some real skill in my opinion. But I'm old, currently at work, out of coffee, and down to a couple cigs, I might just be being a curmudgeon.
Haha well we can question a lot of things in WoW but in the end I'm like whatever cause lets face it. Blizzard is a crazy rollercoaster when it comes to WoW. I also agree that being rude over killing pixles is silly. Yet I think there is some degree of difficulty even in WoW, my point being heroics, and saying there isnt is just being bias. You might think there isnt much but there is some difficulty in WoW otherwise everyone would be rolling over heroics with the top end raiding guilds who devote their lives and get sponsored for doing it in the first week.
There is no trend. You are wrong.
The only reason I stopped playing WoW is because of Blizzard's poor account security. I got tired of getting illegal login emails every few weeks, or finding that my account had been temp-banned because of suspicious activity.
The game itself is fine. It may not suit everyone's tastes, but it's not meant to.
