Help! Is SWTOR for me?

I like mmo’s. I have played some of them (EQ, Warhammer, Rift, Guild Wars, Lineage) but most of all WoW.

I’m thinking about SWTOR now and I need to know what else it offers to an experienced mmo player.  What new things that the already existing mmo’s missing.

I m the kind of player that don’t care about lore, cinematics or voices. They are all secondary and boring for me.

I like most of all competitive PvE (Dungeons &  Raids) but I wouldn’t say no to a nice PvP system (RvR, objective open world PvP, etc.) and not the classical BG’s.

I also like a ladder system to PvP and if possible to PvE too.

A dynamic world with world bosses and events is really a great option for me.

I like to have the option to customize either  my gear, my character or the interface itself.

In short terms is SWTOR for me? Does it offer to a player like me options that I can’t find to already existing mmo’s? is it worthing my time and my 60$ ?

SWTOR won't be for you if you want to skip the story content.  While it does have world bosses, gear customization,  lots of high level challenging content,  the meat of this game will be its story content,  and if you aren't interested in it,  you'd be wasting a lot of what makes this game different.

Best just to wait for another non-voiced game with no choices.

No, I think you need to pack it in, stop playing MMOs, and hope your dream game comes out in 10 years if the world isn't destroyed in 2012. Does that help?

I don't know if this is another topic to flame bait us? because if anyone has done any research on SWTOR then it is easier to know what SWTOR has to offer. Looks like another GW2 is better than SWTOR topic poorly disguised as 'if this game is for me'. I almost took you seriously till i got to this part.....

    yeah right!

How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?

ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6.
US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian.
Subs will be so low there is no need for more
    Snoocky-How many servers?
The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...

Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.

I was the type who didn't care about lore all that much.  I just never really found it interesting enough to care.  So I just spam clicked through quests to get to my killing my 10 rats, or Fed Ex quests.  All in the name of getting stronger and getting ready to raid.

All that changed, when I played this game.  As I started playing the game, I started to give a damn about the lore.  I started to do research on its back story and I am sold.  It worked for me and I will be playing this game for a very long time.

For you, I am not sure if you would like it as I did.  Everyone is different, however the only and truly way to know is just trying it out for yourself.

Play it. If nothing else, because there's nothing better to play. For MMOs that is.

Also, MMO launches are full of fun. I think that's worth the box price at least.

What drugs are you on? Not many games are all about story and voice acting, hell most of them are not. Lineage 2 is perfect example. Anyways OP wait for some of the upcoming games in 2012 some might peek your interest. TERA is one example, it is similar to lineage's PVP and has political system with some nice action Based combat system. As for now you can try Dragon Nest, it is a F2P but has some nice Arena PVP.  Age of Conan is another game with very Rich graphics and a nice Combat system, it went F2P not too long ago. DCUO is a very fast paced Super hero MMORPG with some very nice Open world pvp, Arenas ETC. It is also Free now.

This game, like most boware games is based on the story.  However, I thought i would be skipping all the content (which you can do) to get to "the grind" but I didn't.  I found myself getting sucked into the story.

This game, like all themepark games is based on questing, pvp, space combat, flashpoints, etc.  All similar to dungeons, raids, battlefields.  The game will be what you make it.  It has fluid game play, great graphics, story, etc.  I was sad to see a lack of some simple things like customizable UI, some form of public questing, gear dying/coloring.

If you like WOW and you like star wars, you will like this game a lot.  Given some time to refine it and bioware could be on to something here.  The space combat being a little more open (jump to lightspeed SWG) would really push this game over the top IMO.

Surely its a swtor is a single player game comment? Thats what I think it is anyway :P

I would agree.  SW:TOR's voice acting, lore, and cinematics are a huge part of the experience.  While the actual gameplay is still rock solid, you're better off playing World of Warcraft or Rift which have more dynamic, breathing gameworlds with the same quality of questing content (assume you spam the spacebar during SW:TOR's cutscenes).

OP, in the amount of time it took you to write your post, you could have easily gone anywhere on the web to do some research on the game and find the answers to your questions.

  • Most likely you'll like it. So far almost everyone who's played have. It has many of the elements you're looking for. Progressive PvE and raiding at end-game as well as varied PvP options. There's world bosses. A lot of players who claimed they weren't interested in story at all changed their mind after playing, but even if you don't, you can just space bar through the dialogues quickly.

As far as I know there aren't any ladder systems implemented, so any progression ladders at launch at least would require the community to make, similar to what people did in WoW.

I think swtor will be something you'll enjoy. Even though your not into lore, the game is brings a great sequence of events to guide you into a deep story that will progress you into the game. It's always fun to pick up a quest go to the destination, accomplish a task and turn it back in, but swtor actually adds another dimension. It's makes you choose along the way if you want to help a cause, or perhaps help yourself. Pvp system is fun and has a progression system from what i notice in my time in beta. I know for sure you get not only the armor, but titles as your pvp rank progresses. It has the classic Bioware feel, if you familiar with any of there games. I would recommend putting the $60 down and trying it out, ifs you don't like it, that's all that you would have invested, first 30 days of the game are free.
  • SuperXero89SuperXero89 Member UncommonPosts: 2,551

I mean, by all means try it.  You might like it.

You just sound to me like you really could care less about any of the selling points for BioWare's new game, and since it's a brand new game, there are other titles out there with more content and more robust PVP.  Honestly, you should probably look no further than WoW.  If you don't enjoy SW:TOR, I just find it hard to believe you'll like anything else if you can't stand WoW.

Yeah, that is exactly what it is.  He has already been hanging around the forums trashing the game, and this was just a cheap attempt to bait people.  I will never understand how people can be so bored that they hang around the forums of games they don't like..

Although I really am actually expecting a decent launch with SWTOR after playing in the major stress test. Maybe I'm being foolish and I'll just have to experience yet another "fun" launch. We will see.

If i take into account everything u wrote, NO dont play, but let me tell you something, this is an mmo about STAR WARS the biggest MMO ever you will regret it if you dont play, this wont be like WAR RIFT AOIN etc this will be the new MMO king in 2 years top.

  • AzureProwerAzurePrower Member UncommonPosts: 1,550

I'm pretty much the guy that says to people whom want others to tell them if they'll like SW:TOR or any other game: 'If you have to question whether or not it is for you. The answer is no.'

If you were actually interested in the game. You would try it for yourself and then judge.

For years I didn't try WoW because of what people were saying about it. Then I tried it for myself and it gave me years of enjoyment. Not that I play that game any more, but it did have entertainment value for money at the time I did.

The real question to ask yourself when you play a game, 'are you (and the others you play with) having fun?' Yes/No. Play/Don't play. It's that simple.

A long waited game, a 500 million one…I don’t care about lore, at least so much that I can bypass the weaknesses SWTOR have. Everything except lore is a dejavu from the past. It brings absolutely nothing new to mmo genre. Maybe to SW fans, but sure not to mmo genre in any way.

Take RIFT as example. Maybe it will never be a bank breaker mmo, but they tried to bring some new things. At least we must admit they tried. They introduced Rifts, an excellent talent and class system and a dynamic world (not fully but at least dynamic). Also the pace of their updates and patches was great. I played it about 6 months, then I got bored. It wasn’t the one for me, but I admit as long as I played it I enjoyed it.

Anyway, there will be many that will love or hate SWTOR. The point is that it doesn’t  gives you the feeling that is something really new, that is a game it has to offer both to genre and players new things.

I believe certain games are collectors items or at the very least games you have to try, If you are in doubt over SWTOR just give it a few months and await the free trail that will no doubt come. As for myself I have been waiting a very long time for this shizza and I'm gonna be getting ma freak on with it :)
