Doom and gloom abound about rift (a lot of it justified) but I just wanted to throw in my positive opinion of the game in this huge, swirling storm of "The end is nigh" chatter. I still like you Rift and I will still play you until the pop dries up. True, instant adventures and the fae yule crap may not have been the best thing to put up against a TOR release but I'll still stick by you, for now. Hopefully enough people stick by as well so that server merges won't happen too quickly. I just wanted to voice my support for Trion and their game that I still like.
I know, time to put my body armour on...incoming!

glad to hear your enjoying the game m8 and well done not joining the rest of the herd sweeping towards swtor although as i am one if i ever get my invite i can hardly complain about it too much.
Nothing against TOR mind you. I think we can adequately praise another, new MMO without stomping on Rift so much. I truly believe that those that stick with Rift aren't necessarily TOR haters.
rift could be a great game,
that being said the features they are adding and other features in other games (raid finder) are ruining the genre.
I'm certain Trion have some big things planned for Rift in 2012 (expansion has been hinted at), been playing since the very first Beta and continue to play today and through to the future.TOR is shaping up to be a great game, just the whole voice acting npc stuff is going to make it too costly for bioware to pump out content as fast and as much as Trion.
/facepalm
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
I also still like it. But i don't like too many things Trion's is doing.
By now, to me it looks like it'll all be "too little too late" in say 6 month -unless they pull some magic pink rabbit out of the hat.
On a sidenote: Warbs, i read you quit? Whats wrong? I always liked your videos.
RIFT is a good game.
Its has its flaws like every other game and still remains quite popular.
I enjoyed my time in the game. Rift served its purpose it gave me something to play during the dead part of the year when hardly any good single player games released.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
Yeah I am waiting on that myself to see if we get the Blizzard of excuse of "well it takes awhile to develope" or will be get a Trion style thing of "no matter what we will somehow get it out the door"
EA has a chance to redeem a pretty crappy reputation with MMO's with TOR if they do it right and come through on the promises. Best thing that can happen to TOR is if EA treats it like a cash cow which means they will still financially support it.
I only leave a mmo if I am mad and I am not mad at Trion. They give me content on a failry regular schedule. I might play TOR, but I need to see more end game reviews after the population settles. I have VERY LITTLE faith that the WoW playerbase that the game attracted will stay past the first month.
TRION will be the benchmark for fast delivered quality patches/content for years to come.
its just .. Many of us need a break from fantasy before GW2 and TSW hits next year i guess
edit: and yes, i'm aware that star wars is more fantasy than anything, but a slight change of scenery is welcome ^^
TSW is based in modern day. GW2 is high fantasy for sure.
Stay true to what YOU like, don't get swept along with mindless hype, see short term excitement as the blip it is.
Your doing it right
Whatever else you can say about Rift, it's funded development of two other full on MMO games; an RPG/FPS and an RTS. Even if the population plummeted like Wile E. Coyote after realizing he's running on air, the game has been a success.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Is Rift and TOR the only decent opitions for gamers these days....what has this genre come to lol
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
Take a time machine back to when Aion launched then we can talk about populations taking a dive. It has taken hits based off of pure hype and hope that others game would deliver content faster or be this pinnacle of games, but give it a little time.
Take my word I am already grinning at some of the stuff I am seeing.
I signed up for the trial, and I have to say: It's good enough to make me question whether to buy it or SW:TOR.
Basically this. Most people playing Rift say the same thing. We know to expect another content update in like a month...Jan 4th to be exact, so we have no reason to jump ship. TOR would have to prove to be like this massive Behemoth. Mostly right now it is just a oddity that noone is sure will be popular in a month.
Not sure what the population is like in Rift these days but it kept me interested for a few months at least.
With swtor I was bored after the first 8 hours
I made a thread around this one where I am trying to get different data points to see how Rift is being affected by TOR. Oddly enough alot of the hits were already built in before December....so not massive unsubs on launch day, but minor at best considering.
If it makes you feel any better, SWTOR and Rift share a similar fate, the fate of LOTRO and NGE SWG and any other MMO that sought after the casual gamer base. But these games can survive as LOTRO has shown it is doing well :-)

P.S. I really hope that SW:TOR will go the way of dinosaurs. The sooner, the better.

Yeah i'm with ya. Want to know something interesting? I know 99.9% said no. But I don't care. Rift is the first game since DAoC (and EQ preceding that) to hook me longer than a month, maybe two.
I've been playing rift since the betas and then headstart. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself and there seems to be no end in sight for me.
I was beginning to think I would be on a never-ending road of trying out former MMOs again, leaving, trying the next one again, leaving, etc.
Thier CS is top-notch in the industry. They push out quality content at an amazing rate. They fix problems very quickly. They listen to their fan-base (not the whining minority).
For me, and my play-style, I can't see anything taking me away. Except of course, WoD .... I'd leave for WoD even if it meant leaving <insert hot female actress> at the same time.
Point is, I love Rift. People can dog it all they want. I really don't care. I'm in it for the long haul.
Just had to say that's one of the wisest comments I have seen on these forums. I can only hope it was sincere, i can't really tell these days (no offense meant). He is, indeed, doing it right. A lot goes along with that. I am doing it right as well. I got off -track for a couple-few years, but I grounded myself and things have never been better between me and MMO gaming.
Anyway.
I definitely support Trion and think that their approach to development should be a lesson to all publishers, however, the time has come to seriously raise the bar for the MMO genre and unfortunately, Rift will seem very obsolete once players experience SWTOR.
Unfortunately this list is going to keep growing

Add vendor buy back button to that list. As entertainment(there is a lot of it on TOR forums) I have been watching just to see exactly what Rift was expected to launch with compared to TOR. Also add grace period in queue times. Trion solved this issue in less then a day after launch.
Lets just say TOR is winning the story/big world race, but losing very badly everywhere else.
Yeah. LOTRO is what im playing again. I played RIft for about 6 weeks and its not a bad game, but for me, LOTRO is better. WOW is no longer an option and I have no interest in TOR right now. Maybe when the offer a trial or it goes F2P.
Really? This game sucks and Im not having fun? Im going to unsub right now. Thanks for the tip.
