I don't understand why Bioware is messing things up. This is what WAR did wrong at launch and messed big time. I'm concern with server populations goin to full. If I can't log with my guild I will not play the game. Pre-order time is good because one can see how a good concept is messed up, as WAR and not buy the game at the end.
Check server status, so its easier to understand my concern. http://www.swtor.com/server-status
I hate when a good game mess things because they did not took into account what a big problem it is to divide the prelaunch play time. If all players went at the same time and the servers went full before I go in is bad luck on my part and can't complain. But if I'm restrain to go in and a server goes full not letting me play with friends bad on the MMO.
I saw this coming yesterday and let em explain the problem.
Our allied guild, big one with lost fo good buddies from many other mmos, was sent by Bioware to a different server. One that is Full at this moment. We had only 3 allied guild's and those 3 only had one another as allies. Nonetheless we were all distributed into different servers. I don't understand why there were made alliances if Bioware was goin to distribute it differently. We are a group of players that have a lot of years playing together and always at same servers in different games, We always decided where to go. This time it appears to be different. Way to go Bioware, a first and maybe lethal move on your part.
My guildies went to that server, as the other guild that wasn't at same server as the big guild ally and created the guilds and were able to get in and create it before it went full.
I as other good guildies haven't got the invites and we are concerned about this miss on behalf of Biowere.
I'm not goin to play the game alone or without my guildies. For a stand alone game I dont buy an MMO. If this is goin to be the case I will better not invest my money in the game until sure I'll be able to play with friends.
3 or 4 players that can't get into the servers with their friends will multiply over time when friends left the game to play other games with them. This si how good MMOs mess things up.
An MMO dosen't stand alone in terms of a game content. Many of us play it because a combination of a good game and a group of friends and good times. If we are not able to log, we all decided not to play. We are currently 5 players and all our good friends are at the server that before we get the invite is full.

How hard can it be to create new servers?
New server to play alone not my game.
My theory? Bioware only asked people who their allied guilds were so they'd know how to break up large alliances and prevent them from rolling over a server.
As for keeping you from playing with your other guildmates, same thing, no better way to break up a zerg guild like Goons than to start sending them all over the place.
They know you'll still play no matter how much they abuse you, you can't help yourself.

Well if thats the case you have two options:
A) Just not play the game
or
B)Suck it up and wait a few weeks for crap to calm down. Its early access and everyone is going to be the playing on the first day.
Seriously wtf do you want me to do?
I would fully expect there to be queue times at any new game launch. Everyone and their brother is trying to log on at the same time and usually onto the same servers. If seeing "full" scares you, wait a few weeks and it will change dramatically. Once all the hoopla is over with and all the free 30-dayers are done, a good chunk of the population will disappear. Just as it does in every new game release.
World of Warcraft and EvE grew I see no reason as to why this game can't.
Wouldn't they actually have to setup new hardware? I mean, servers are actually physical things. It isn't like they have some button that says "Create New Server". Well, I guess they could contract out to some data center or something, but still, you see my point. They just can't magic new servers into existence.
Although actually, you'd think they would have several redundant machines on hand just in case something went desperately wrong and they had to create a few new servers ASAP.
this is another ridiculous they shoudl let all early accessers in at the same time thread. Because they didnt go and buy the game when pre orders started
They choise to wait knowing bioware was gonna stagger there early access and now are whining cause they are in first
really people grow up.
Well, actually, we didn't know they were going to stagger Early Access like this, but it is still funny how people are obsessing over it. Anyways.
3 possible explanations
#1. The server status only really reflects the new player areas and thereby when people out level them it will drop lower.
#2. OP is using the server site on SWTOR's main page and its saying full when the actual in game thing is saying Low or normal, which would be a bug that I have heard might be happening, but its unconfirmed yet.
#3. Your post is a good 40 minutes after his perhaps things are calming down a bit and people are eatin dinner or they added on more server space or any number of other tiny things in those 40 minutes could have occured.
because my server screen in game says i have standard population on most and light on at least 10 ill list thenm u want me too for christ sakes.
light population servers at this time are
rakata mind prison
nadd's sachocaphys i think i spelt that wrong,
the crucilble pits, bergeren colony, madalore the indomitable, vrook lamar , warriors of the shadow, daragon trail ajunta pall , wound in the force, black vulkera,
there are 14 other s ervers say light population right now as i log in to check servers,
The rest say standard, When i was in beta if a server was full it said full and was red. not one of these servers says above standared right this second.
there are no ques either i can switch form sever to server at will and have.
i could understand that but the thing is they are adding new servers to game every day. not all the servers bioware has are up yet. im just pointing out in game it says they are not even close to full.
But it still just another shoudl of let everyone in at once post wrapped up to sound diffrent. they just used a new way to scare people who didnt get in day 1 or access.
If they wanted in so badly on day 1 should of pre orderd earlier . No one made them wait to pre order.
Hmmm why would YOU say something so easily proved false?
Just logged in to make sure and he is right most are light and a few are standard....
If you would have logged in and see for yourself you would have seen it for yourself...and if you cant log in yet (or don't plan to play at all) why would you claim that someone (who actually took the time and checked the servers in the log in menu) is spreading false information?
He's probablly talking about the server status web page that actually gives a completely diferent outlook. Go figure.
OP:
So if the server is full, you can't ever log in and create a character, or are you just upset at having to wait in a login queue?
I don't get why MMO after MMO goes through this, without addressing the basic process, like with duplicate servers that would quietly merge a month after launch. It wouldn't be the big infamous server merging, just something they'd do automatically with the extra servers they'd used, knowing they had a million pre-orders. A bit expensive, but would pay off in the drastically improved first impression it would make.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
chill out people this is probably the biggest mmo launch of all time, cut them some slack.

I posted this here on the swtor forums but didnt get any play.
Basically I think this whole setup is flawed. I really liked the idea of guilds preregistering so that they could easily split up the servers populations and get everyone balanced and what not.
However, they then torpedoed this idea by doing waved access.
The guilds cant get into the servers, capacity is currently fixed. So everyone logs in fills the servers currently up and they add more. By the time the guilds get in... servers are already full and they have to move servers anyways.
Either waves or guild pre registration would ahve worked. But together they more or less canceled each other out and now neither are going to work. Guilds are still going to play with guildmates and folks that got in day one arent going to switch servers.
