Well if you need to download the complete beta with 56k you have to wait a long time. But when you buy the game you donnot need to download the complete game and they have tested it with 56k and said it was ok.
Thank god that area net had in mind that 56k'ers could play, this was what made me buy this game, I live out in the boonies (more like the boons) and all that is offered out here is dial up, or I could buy a t1 frame 600$ a month or possibly pay for satellite (60/mth=$600 hardware), which I unfortunately have had. Satellite is great for downloading but dont get me wrong; you time out on every game server out there, for it takes 5 seconds to go up to the satellite and go back to the terminal then 5 seconds for the satellite to send a enormous packet so if the server has a 10 sec (default) timeout you are doomed never to play. T1 is too expensive; its not worth it to have 24 phone lines framed just for playing games, so I am stuck with dial up, so thank god AreaNet understands "circumstances".
It should play alright on dialup, at least according to most people. But it will definitely take longer to load maps ...the first time anyway. After the first time, it should be more or less as fast as anyone else I think.
I've personally played the game on 33.6k dialup without any lag issues. Downloading brand new maps can take a while, but the gameplay itself is smooth. I've even played while sharing the 33.6k with my brother who was in a different mission and had zero issues.

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
