While I respect the view that they had good reasons to stagger the launch, I have just heard that certain guilds being active and ONLINE have been able to recruit and swell their ranks. for instance Oblivion guild on the server Black Vulkars
only deployed with ha Only had 12 members, because they had a couple of members that pre-ordered early, they were granted access on the 1st wave on the 1sr day. now their ranks are almost 80. Now if another guild that wanted to be competitive got access say on Sat how is this fair?
This isnt a post of rage nor is it a QQ affair, I'm just pointing out something no one has mentioned yet

People will always join guilds that mass invite but in the end players will go to the guilds they fit in.
They're putting guilds on separate servers and they're opening up new servers on launch day. So what if there are one or two guilds at the moment who have swelled their ranks? There are plenty of other people out there who are wanting to make guilds or are guildless. There will never be an end to the supply of people looking for guilds. Especially since a lot of people aren't even in-game yet, and there are plenty of people who are going to be purchasing the game in the future.
'Nuff said.
Yes i understand that but in this particular instance the guild mentioned is my ally, In real life we are friends and wanted to have our own guilds so I am stuck with this server, at least if we want to keep the alliance and the pre deployment. But you make a good point, I know alot of people dont like running guilds but for myself i find it another level of satisfaction knowing you can work and build something from the ground up. In my opinion anyway it still is unfair
Zerg guilds don't retain members. With the size of operations and group sizes for pvp, world pvp people will eventually leave and join other guilds that are more suited to them or more personal. Its hard to have a huge guild and make everyone feel like they are a part of the guild. I think looking at it now you may think its an issue and I can see your point but if you give it a few weeks I am willing to be everything will right itself and you will find people looking to change guilds and a lot more 20 - 40 person guilds. This ofcourse is just my opinion.
Spam invite guilds rarely last anyway, during most of MMO launches i've seen them get up to 3 and 400 members within the first few days and happens whether there is early access or not. 6 - 12 months down the line those guilds are usually nowhere to be seen.
I have only read this last post, but I suspect I know the issue, and unless the Force is real, the issue is unavoidable. You can either be unfair to a lot of individuals or unfair to individual members of groups. In this particular case, Bioware probably chose to be fair to the overall population (first paid, first served), rather than fair to groups (get in earlier if your guild was started earlier).
This avoids people exploiting the guild system just to get into the game earlier, at the expense of slow guild members getting into the game later and possibly having guilds on Full servers.
If they just opened the servers and let people try to mob the servers, then individual guild members would end up trying to roll characters on Full servers anyway.
*shrug* It's not ideal for everyone, but it's more fair overall to open servers on a first come, first server basis and even doing it different wouldn't create a more fair scenario.
Now I'm going to go back and read the rest of the thread to see if I got it right.
** edit **
I totally didn't get it right at all. :-(
However, now that I've read the OP, I can respond to that.
Restricting guild membership wouldn't be fair either. Also, if they just opened the servers for 'everyone' on the 13th, the exact same situation would occur, except it would be people who managed to try and login at the open rather than guild members who registered first.
For that matter, people who registered first, who expressed interest and a desire to play the game first should get first crack at everything. They wanted it first, they paid for it first and they registered first.

I was the only person in my guild online Tuesday, as of last night we had 4-5, still missing some folk and some won't be joining till Christmas.

GET OVER IT
*p.s.*
"GET OVER IT" is now the response I am going to leave in every pre-order/early access launch QQ thread on this website.
Why? It's funny. It's funny cause I've been in since 7am EST Tuesday.
It may *seem* unfair to you, but SWTOR actually went out of their way to provide features and functionality all year for those genuinely looking to recruit rather than just spam invites at release. A full guild recruitment system, with an excellent database and search system, had been available most of this year, as well as guild forums hosted directly on their site.
The other guilds that 'wanted to be competitive' had already bolstered their ranks over the past 6 months. Seems some were more serious about maintaining their competitive edge than others.

Yes. But only a problem for guilds that intend to mass invite new members without scrutiny and become bloated with window-licking water heads as fast as possible to be able to recruit more window-licking water heads by using their vast amount of window-licking water heads as an argument for joining them. That's a minor sacrifice.

Window-licking waterheads?
Oh the imagery for so early in the morning. Shame on you Pony, shame.

I'd like to just correct one thing about your post:
"Delayed Launch"---Should read "Early Access Reward"
Kudos to those guilds organized enough to pre-register in mass...they are being rewarded by SWTOR for their early loyalty. If those guilds want to scoop up 5% of early access players (which is up to what 20% of all pre-orders) I think that'll leave plenty of others looking for guilds. Are you sure you're looking for numbers over quality of members?

Many thanks for my first good chuckle of the day, DP.

I should of stated this in the 1st post, that guild at deployment had 12 members, my guild at deployment had 3 times their number, So if any hardwork was done it was done by us. the only diff between the 2 guilds was, they had a officer who got in on the 1st wave As for having quality over numbers, I agree
Anyway I didnt want this thread going into a QQ rant but really I just curious if anyone else were thinking the same thing. I will proberly get in tonight hopefully and will work on building our guild asap. No one had mentioned this topic on the forums and really just wanted everyones thoughts on the matter
Fair enough...just saying if your guild planned well enough you'll do better in game with recruiting quality members. A good amount of people I saw running around yesterday were all about leveling and not very friendly (compared to those in BETA). Just my early experience....
We haven't even begun to recruit additional members because we want to make sure people know how to play their class and can add to or lead within our guild.
You are working from a false premise.. They are not staggering launch, they are staggering early access. launch is not until the 20th. Have all your guldies wait until the 20th to log in and you no longer have a need to belly-ache about your percieved great social unjustice.
This.
Why would a guild want players that just join whatever guild asks them? Players are well aware that not everyone(thus not every guild) is in the game. If they're hellbent on joining a guild before all their options are available, so be it, sez me.
Quantity does not equal quality. Why is this such a big deal again?
Man, we MMORPG players sure seem to compete on just about everything it seems, even on zerg guild recruiting.
99/100 new guilds in a game fail so its not a big deal.

Beats me. But by the same logic, wouldn't normal EGA also be unfair to guilds? Not everybody preorders. Lots of people don't have the bandwidth to download 20+ gigs worth of game.
What are guilds competing for? members?
High population doesn't make your guild #1. It just makes it big.
And......I've seen a lot of these threads about how unfair bonus access has been. In my mind no one has the right to bitch about unfair treatment in their 'bonus' time. It is like a kid getting mad because they got an A+ when they think they deserved an A++.
You got your bonus, you are in before launch, thus giving you a headstart to 'compete' before most of the population can ever come on line.
There is only one 'number one'. Starting your guild 1 week early is convenient, but only one of innumerable variables that will rocket that guild to the top.
I hate to say this, if your guild can't become #1 without early access - it would not have become #1 anyway.
