It depends on whether or not you payed attention to the recommended requirements. People with the recommended requirements can achieve eye-candy graphics. People who get better graphics cards like the 6600 GT and the 9800 series will get even better graphics.

A lot of people's egos can't handle the fact that one game is better in some areas than the game they favor so they feel the need to tear it down. I don't think you'll find a credible review anywhere that says EQ2's graphics are awful. Even the credible reviews that didn't care for the game admit the graphics are spectacular.
i think with awful the peeps mean the whole game looks death ... dont get me wrong from the technical view eq2 has great gfx ... but i never got the feeling im in a "real world" just some death land with well looking objects around you =/
If you were in Freeport than that would make sense. That was the effect they were going for. Qeynos is lively with trees and grass. The Eldarr Park is some of the best scenery I've ever seen in a computer game.

Amen to that.., my feelings excatly. I am not impressed with the graphics, even on my ati 9800.

I agree that EQ2 graphics are not that good, but not because my ego demands it. I've played it and I tried desperately to like EQ2. Even after all my friends left for WoW, I held on to that game. Why? I don't know. Probably because I bought the collector's edition and didn't want to admit I wasted my money. Who knows...
Anyway, with that said and the honeymoon being over, I can definitely agree that EQ2's graphics are dead. They are technically perfect, almost as if a computer created them. It emulates a world pretty well, but the believability isn't there. Something critical is missing from them. Some might call that a soul. I just call it artistic talent.
I therefore recant any previous statements I made about WoW's graphics being less than EQ2s (if indeed I said that). I urge anyone who believes EQ2 graphics to be superior to play WoW past any of the newbie areas (but even that isn't necessary). Crank up all the options in Video Options, because if you can run EQ2 at any detail level, then you can run WoW at max detail level. Trust me on that.
The game is gorgeous and it shows that the artists at Blizzard have some serious talent. Each region has it's own unique feel and theme that really sets the mood. The sheer variety blows me away every time I've played in the last two weeks or so. Each time I play I learn something new. This game is by no means simple. It's like chess in that it's easy to learn and tough to master. By comparison EQ2 is insulting.
yeah exactly what i mean ... you feel the "life" around you in wow when you play ... eq2 dosent even comes close to that feeling and i can agree i have no idea whats really wrong with eq2 maybe its really the "soul" the game is missing or just some more talentet artists who knows
When I first got EQ2 my specifications were good, but not the specs recommended on the box. While I could play the game, I was forced to play a graphically dumbed-down version. I actually quit the game because of the lag.
Fast forward a couple of months and I bought a new computer. I figured I would try EQ2 again. The differences are night and day now. I experience zero lag, even in highly populated areas and I am able to turn most of the bells and whistles up now.
I think the game is visually stunning in many areas. If you've got the syatem to handle it, I don't think really anyone will be disappointed in EQ2 graphically.

If you are talking about WoW, then yes, I think you'd run fine with any Radeon 9xxx card from ATI. EQ2 should run fine on that too, I would think. One of my computers with a Radeon 9800 ran EQ2 pretty well as long as too much detail wasn't turned on. I think I had balanced or performance set on that one. Your 9200 would be only slightly slower than that I think, which still should be acceptable.

Well, it all just doesn't blend as much as it should and there is certainly a lack of artistic touch,.. It's so cheap... I geus you have to have taste to notice that hahahahha, j/k!!!
Did you turn on anti aliasing? I couldn't stand the graphics myself til I did, it changes the look of it immensly.

Sorry, but a Radeon 9200 is not slightly slower than a 9800, it is tremendously slower. If you want to enjoy some of the graphics of EQ2 with detail, get at least a 9800pro. If you are buying a new one skip that, and get a GF 6600GT for the same price or wait for the awesome Ati x800XL.
All the advertising of companies for their computers with a 9200 as fast 3D-gaming machines is almost cheating on customers.

Well, whatever, but a 9200 should still run it. Some people would rather spend money on games than hardware and are usually fine with turning down some detail in order to do so.
Yeah I have to agree that a 9200 will do fine. IMO the game looks quite stunning (regardless of what some say) even on relatively low settings ... I know because that's the way I play it ... on an old 64 meg 4200ti. I play on balanced (the medium setting) or high performance which is one setting below that, and it looks flat out great.
As far as whoever said the game looks dead, I guess if you're seeking saturated color cartoons and characters that look like Popeye's Thalidomide child, then realism isn't going to do it for ya. It's realism ... a dungeon looks like a freakin dungeon, not the comic strip on the back of a cereal box. I'm sorry but fighting Bluto in a dungeon decorated in purple and chartreuse just doesn't make it for me. The characters look realistic (yup, there are a couple I don't care for). The buildings look realistic. The lights in the streelights flicker and people's eyes blink. The cats and dogs and ducks in the cities run around playing and fighting and never cease to crack me up. As far as Freeport looking dark and dead, like some say .. YEAH, it does ... it's the dark dank evil stronghold ... it ain't supposed to look like the land of Oz. It looks like what it's supposed to look like. If you're into medieval fantasy, then this is it. I didn't see them shoot Lord of the Rings in Toys R Us and I don't feel like playing my game there either. I play on the good side (of course =p), but I keep an evil toon in Freeport so I can go soak up the look over there.
People like it or they don't. Whatever turns your crank
actually wickes, that graphics card you have is legendary. That was the peek of Nvidia technology right there. I have a 6800GT and I still miss my old Ti4200. That card out performed my 5600 and my 5700.

Yeah it definitely is a good card. I never expected after all these years it would play EQ2 so well.
As for Sergeant Quackers and company, I think I must be mentally defective in some way ... I can hardly go into Q Harbor without looking around to see what they're doing. Being a cat person though, it's embarrassing to see Commander Fluffy regularly run for the hills
I am ALWAYS checking to see where they are when I go through the harbor.

Is this true? From my beta experience I thought the graphics looked great, some of the best I've seen.
I would agree with that statement, as well as one of the following posters that said if you paid attention to the recommended requirements, then they would look fine.
My reason for agreeing with the above poster is my system was between the 'required' and 'recommended', and when I had to turn all the detail settings to low due to laggy zones or areas, the graphics were better in EQ1. Think of Picasso on too much caffeine, a blind eye, just recently hit over the head, using a broken paintbrush, drunk on moonshine, but determined nonetheless to paint a picture of a fantasy world, and you can begin to guess how screwed up it looked. It hurt my eyes to play it, so I chose to bare with the lag over lowest detail settings.
When you're in quiet instance though, and your graphics are above default settings, then it's a beautiful world to behold in many ways.
