refund possible? game is unplayable

I'm asking here because the swotr forums are down.

I read the minimum settings stated on the website.  My computer is above these specs and yet my FPS is horrible on the lowest possible settings.

I can play other games without a problem on low settings.  Turning my characters camera is delayed, which makes the game unplayable.  Has anyone else experienced this horrible fps with a decent machine?  I understand a "good" machine is probably required to enjoy this game, but the specs they list would probably make the game play at 5fps

Official site forums are up now.

Also I think it mite be your compooter. Most people who write about client and stability say it runs very smooth.

Yes that happened to me. And someone commented in the forums that seems there is a clear "cut" for some old computers where the fps drop a lot, while a slightly more modern computer play the game well. I guess it's some graphic card feature.

Btw my computer is from march 2007.

My PC is ancient (2006) and I had no problems playing once I changed a few things. Low settings are FUBAR, set it to high and use the sliders to lower things until you get decent performance. I also found that just ticking Vsync helped a hell of a lot on it's own during beta when we were forced to low settings. Give it a shot and see if that helps.

As much as people have been bitching about the low-res graphics, it's hard to believe any computer made in the last 5 years can't run it. Cough up some dough and upgrade that e-machines buddy.

Try turning off shadows. That made a huge difference for me. The FPS still drops a bit when I'm indoors for some reason but not to the point where it's unplayable. I'm playing on a shitty laptop just barely above minimum requirements (even failing on the CPU part).

The exact problem I had on the very last beta weekend when I was trying out the Trooper on Ord Mantell. Tick Vsync, it fixed it for me. Makes no sense but it works..

I've had the same problems, and what I did was. Change the resolution to a lower setting, then if you notice no lag at all, change it back to the resolution that you want. Works all the time for me, you can try that.

I have to agree a bit here. For me on the lowest settings in beta it actually run very smoothly, but EGA, i lag like you won't belive it...

Why would they want AA? Their computer is crapping bricks just trying to run the game on the lowest setting with most features off.

I was thinking the same thing.

The game runs great on my laptop max settings although the AA was off in beta, now that I think about it maybee it was off for everyone or something?

You can try support@swtor.com, but I havent goton very far with them, kinda like talking to one of those replying software receptionist on the inernet, you know where they talk like there really someone but actually pre programed software.

I was getting frustrated with my fps.  I know my video card has issues but my fps was LOW.  I saw someone mention in chat about shutting off shadows.  i did it and I saw a great deal of improvement in performance.  Go to video settings and make sure they are off, and not low.

I was enjoying the game on high settings for quite a bit runnin pretty smooth until i joined a few games of Hut Ball. I run at 2 fps in there, was very upsetting. I even changed my settings to low to try it again and it still ran at 2 fps in Hut Ball.

For some reason everytime I run Huttball BG the game crashes on me. I try all the time to avoid this one, cuz I dont wanna be queued up everytime I CTD from the game.

I dont think its your setting per se.  I have 2 toons in 2 different servers with the same graphic settings.  One toon plays smooth and the other lag spikes all over the place then ctd.

I have a mediocre computer and I get 60 fps at high and low settings. I think you have a PEBKAC son.

I run the game Smooth with shadows off and everything else max, but If I put everything else on low, the game is unplayable its very weird, thinking it could be my ati card...

Turn shadows off.  Or cancel your game.  The other million of us go on and enjoy it. :)

My system runs the latest games just fine, but it is about two years old now. TOR is playable for me, but its a little choppy, so I can see how if it's choppy on my system, its definately going to cause some people problems. It might be a configuration issue, rather than general across the board performance, but that doesnt mean its the user's comp thats at fault.

I dont know. All guessing aside, I just know Im getting rather mediocre performance, when my system easily runs most everything else.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

I would check out your graphics driver, make sure no viruses and such....Doesn't seem like that demanding of a game.

Try updating your drivers... I have a gtx 570 but if I had 2010 drivers game would run clunky.
