What Im used to:
Jump in my shiny new AAA sub based MMO everything is new and cool and shiney, Im reading all the quests completely, totally engaged in the story etc and then it starts to happen, at about level 20 the once interesting quest text becomes a wall of gibberish covering some uninteresting bit of lore or history written by some want to be tolkien. I simply stop caring about the NPC plight or the pending doom of the gameworld because frankly its "not very damn interesting" and begin just leveling and doing my best to stay engaged in the gameworld hoping for a decent end game experience.
What I like:
Quests that arn't quests but stories rather that just happen to involve "kiliing" things here and there along the way. Two really good examples of recent games that do this pretty well are Skyrim and SWTOR one which happens to be an MMO yes!. So refreshing that after engaging an NPC I find myself running away not thinking about the location of the X number of bugs I have to kill but rather the story I am a part of, what I should do next and where it will lead me, its a refreshing change. Im not the returing "hero" and Im not unrealistically trying to save the world one bug at a time. And oh by the way I happen to be leveling while all this is taking place......pretty cool.

I'm glad you are happy with your product. I only hope you feel the same way a month from now.
Seconded.
Can only speak of my own (short) experience but a starterworld / zone / tutorial phase has never felt more compelling and meaningful for me in any other mmorpg.

Speaking for myself
I love the story. I also know there will come a time when story won't be that interesting for me anymore. I have played certain MMOs for years. Will story be the main drive to keep a person playing for years? I don't have a crystal ball but I don't think so.
People will want to revert to old ways of hunting for the shiny. When that sets in I hope Bioware has improved enough on the PvE side, outside story for this game to be more than mediocre
The story in this game is what sold me on it. I will never play a text based boring fed-ex quest grinder again.

@ Pony Id realy like to see a "your feelings" post from you on ToR as your one of the ppl I respect on these forums. I played/tested ToR for 4 months and loved it...still do just wondering how your take on it looks. To OP I feel the same way enjoy the game and have fun.
Dark Pony is only saying give it a month. Come end game that story you guys seem to like so much stops. It turns into a COMPLETELYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY different game.
You leave the galaxy and land on Planet Azeroth when you hit 50.
Same unless future mmo's have VO i wont even look at them.
Thanks for the compliment Czelaw
Only had 1 day of experience so far though. I wrote about the first 5 hours here.
But I'll write some more once I have some more hands-on time under my belt.
Cheers!

I keep telling everyone newer mmos are straying away from games like WOW that require massive amounts of time, basically just timesink games. There is no reason to keep playing the same game as much any more with so many great new mmos coming out and people are not taking it into consideration.
You get alot of bang for your time in SWTOR, lots of questing/grouping/story I think that was one of the main reasons I liked it so much.
Yeah, no.
Look at how many level 50s are on your servers already. The game is getting capped within hours.
Being read to is not making the same ol' quest designs any more epic in earnest.
But it's cool you guys are enjoying it.
Teddy Ruxbins need to be brought back and marketed towards adults.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Well there's always rushers who see it as a fun challenge to get a server first max level char; most of those have extensive beta experience with the game already, have rerolled toons multiple times, etc. So they don't have any issue with skipping all the voice overs.
Still ... I admit ... it is pretty much my biggest fear that the ride will be too short.
But if you regard the alternative, fluffing up the leveling with more generic, boring quests or xp grinds, I'm not sure if its a bad thing; as long as the endgame content is compelling for a long time.
I am REALLY curious what the perception on longevity will be with the current fans and players in a few months from now.

I'm wondering if the storyline simply continues after you hit level 50. My experience in the game during beta was that levels were really not all that important...they certainly weren't the reason I continued playing. So if the levels, while leveling aren't all that important, what about the level 50? Is it all that important? I'm hoping it's not. I'm sure there will be the usual raiding end game, but I'm hoping there's something besides that for the people (like me) who aren't all that into raiding.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
The people in ToR are basically the same people that created the "madness" in WoW..
My friend is playing on a pvp server,I cant remember the obscure name of it..I havent seen so much bickering and mom jokes since the 1990's
I'm enjoying my self in starwars the old republic and i will play until it starts going bad but until then i will keep playing it.
I hope i can still say this a year from now.
Greetings

Never hit 50 on any of my beta toons, didn't wanna spoil a whole class worth of content, but here's an old quote.
"We have an endgame planet that is very much something you go to after you've completed your class quest. We wanted to make sure we're supporting both the endgame players who are very much into Operations, Flashpoints, and PvP, but also those people who like to play in a more solo way. So there is content on that planet that is specifically for the people who like to play solo. You can play it as a group, but you can have something that is fun to do as a solo player"

I knew people in SWG who could have a skill capped toon in a matter of days, only a select few games I recall had massive grinds to cap, EQ, Lineage 1+2, aion the first FF MMO and early DAOC, excluding most asian grinders.
Have you read the explanations on how this was achieved by those who have done it? Long term beta access and multiple play-throughs of doing the same thing. There were a few in my squad hitting 50 in days. Yet I played how I play any other MMO between 3 characters for over 3 months never hit higher than 25 on them. Power gamers are a breed all their own, games like this are not intended to be played that way. Look at Skyrim a massive game with loads of content, finished within hours by multiple people. How fast someone can power through something ,really isn't a true telling of how deep a game can be.
There's no way IMO the average gamer is going to make it through TOR in hours or days, while actually playing how (by design) it was intended to be played. Skipping the VO and story is like playing Skyrim and skipping the world.
