Giant Honkin' Weapons

GrymGrym Member UncommonPosts: 301

I don't like them. In many games I've seen released recently, I've noticed a trend by developers to provide gigantic weapon graphics that are not scaled to the avatars themselves. I'm not sure when this became "fashionable" but the earliest example I can think of would be the Final Fantasy series.  It does seem that Eastern themed games embrace this type of graphic representation. Games like Tera and Final Fantasy have amazing world and avatar graphics that would probably lure me to investigate but once I see the giant weapon graphics, it's an immediate turn off.  I'm probably missing out on amazing games but this is a quirk that I simply can't overlook.

Does the "Giant Honkin' Weapon" graphic disturb anyone else out there?

I'm guessing you don't like the mass of western games that have huge weapons like WoW either right?

I do actually. That's what got me excited about a Warcraft Movie. I want to see what the armor and weapons will look like with live action

That gave me a good laugh thinking about how that would look live action.

Correct. I do not like them in Eastern games, I do not like them in Western games, I do not like them Giant Honkin' Weapons.

No. If a Lord of the Rings game had oversized weapons then I'd be turned off, it matters if it fits the world to me. WoW (large) and Tera (really large) sized weapons look good to me.

There was this Japanese game with weapons way bigger and way weirder than I've seen an any MMO, that was probably the only game ever where oversized weapons may have turned me off, but maybe because it had strange weapons was the real reason.

I'm sorry, but when I read this Green eggs and ham popped in my head...

Can't stand these either. I do think big war axes and warhammers are pretty cool, but I don't mean like TERA Lancer huge or anything. Not really a fan of that stuff. If the weapon is something like twice my character's size it's a bit much!

I am right there with you on this one.  I detest over-sized weapons.  Some of the ones I have seen are simply not possible for a human to swing without mechanical assistance.

As for as Finaly Fantasy XIV goes you are not missing anything other than a headache.  Maybe next year it will be playable but right now it's a mess, unless you use a controller.

I have skipped a lot of games because of graphics, but an over-sized weapon alone will not cause me to skip a game, I will just not use/farm one.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that had that issue.

I do not like them Sam I am!

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.
