wont be long before those that have put tor down from day 1 start saying g4 like ten ton hammer and pokkett were paid for there postive opinions

while obscure sites like sandboxer.org or ihatemmos.com are used the the only unbiased reviews since they bash tor.

    u know its coming.

Or we could just wait for the free month to pass and see the people playing the game drop like a bag of rocks. Either or, you know it's coming. =P

Can someone explain why it is a bad thing to have a successful themepark MMO with an awesome launch?  If anything this game will attract more potential gamers, which means more money for new innovative sandbox mmos among others.  So what if this wasn't the game to satisfy everyone - this game is what keeps the genre alive.  You think developers are real keen to dump money into an mmo project given the catastrophic failures of the recent past?  SWTOR keeps this thing going for the majority of us who don't want to buy the next imported asian grindfest, because up until now it was starting to look like another lackluster year.

The thing is having 5 as a max possible score makes it easier to gives full scores to games even if theres flaws

To pay for play, or pay not for play, that is the question.

If I had to guess a possible concern then it would be that people don't want another 5 years of WoW clones now with VOs cause companies will think that's all they need to do to have a successful MMO.

Let me say i think Tor from the videos i've seen is a nice polished game, and if sci-fi was my thing, i'd be on it just as i was on Rift(very polished as well, but in my flavor-Fantasy)

Now that that's out the way.

G4TV is just about the WORST place to get a fair review-in EITHER direction-good OR bad. They are a T.V. outlet peeps, and as such make a lot of money on their reviews. Surely if everyone spouts WEBSITES as being paid for their reviews, they can also directly see the way G4TV operates.

Just run through their list of 5/5's. i'm not even going to bother to list even a few of them that clearly arent a perfect game, nor anywhere near that.

Remember how everyone says don't believe most of what you see on t.v.? Listen. That is all.

    The Deep Web is sca-ry.

no it doesnt mean that, if a themepark attracts more players, it means more players will be interested in themeparks.

IMO these over simplified themeparks are getting just as bad as the asian grinders. Just in a different way.

I haven't read any hate posts in chat yet. Most comments are from folks that say how pleased they are with the game.

Its only been officially released for 2 days. Forgive me if I feel that opinions are biased since there is still 28 more days before that decision needs to be made and a lot of opinions can change in that amount of time.

G4tv is very bias , they worshipers wow and think gw2 is the next god. So they bash every other mmo out there .

I will be one of the first to let you know if I end up leaving it. I was a huge Rift fanboi until I started getting into endgame and I dropped it like a hot rock. I don't worry about that with ToR because Bioware is at the controls. but, if they drop the ball, I will not hesitate to quit.

    The Cons:

Needs more explicit tutorials for non-MMO players

Even if you've never played an MMO before, which this con is implying ~ its a joke how easy this MMO would be to figure out.  You don't have to read anything, and you don't even have to listen to what is being said either, as all objectives and waypoints are displayed on your maps, with lit-up icons and arrows and frack, why doesn't this game have an auto-run to select NPC too...lol

I'll admit though, I was surprised that the tutorials were all text boxes, and not done vocally through your holo-communicator...

I give it 90-120 days before it starts to really take a nose dive. In all actuallity people do stay for atleast 1 or 2 month subed up.  The third months sub retention rate is where they really dry up for these type of games. There just isnt the content there to last longer.

the users gave it a 4/5, the site gave it a 4/5...i don't see the bad review. Link it for me please. I'm not defending them in the least, but i'd like to see what your talking about. could be more cannon fodder for my arguement.

True, but first month drop off is still usually big in MMOs and I am sure it will be noticed if it happens on here. 3rd month is usually when it notice it's down and out.

Sorry...I meant Uncharted 3. Anyway, I was talking about the comments that Adam Sessler made about the game that got the fans fired up. I wasn't talking about the score. It was a running joke on the show for a month...sorry for the confusion.

Here is the uncharted 3 review: http://www.g4tv.com/videos/55929/uncharted-3-with-adam-sessler/

Here is a video after the review where they make fun of the hard time he got: http://www.g4tv.com/videos/55965/battlefield-3-with-adam-sessler/

Do you know anything about economics? If SWTOR fails it will hurt the entire MMO market. Themepark and Sandbox types

I don't know why anyone takes "professional" reviews (good or bad) of MMO's seriously, especially when the MMO in question has come out so soon after release. Remember WAR? It got good a lot of good reviews and won a number of awards from various outlets. Look how that turned out.

Not that I'm saying TOR is going to flop like WAR (fat chance), but you get the point.
